Don't tell me you don't like the iPod, I no you have feelings for it. tell me about your iPod adventures. If you don't have an iPod then something is wrong with you. If someone took it, would you do anything for it? I would. Music is an important thing to have in ones life.

Adventures? Yeah, I'll tell you my adventures.
I got an iPod mini for Christmas one year. Within the year, that is, before the next Christmas, it's battery was so bad that it wouldn't hold a charge for more than about 45 minutes. I looked up on the iPod website and found that this happens regularly to all iPods and it costs $99 to fix it through Apple. Instead I bought a third-party replacement battery for $30, replaced it myself, and it worked.
So I had it for another month or so, till the hard drive itself pooped out and the iPod was completely unfixable.
I got a Creative Zen instead, we are very happy together to this day.

My iPod battery is bad too. I still love it though. Zen is a really good brand. My friend has a zen and i take it all the time.

When you are a teenager music has a disproportionate importance in your life. There is so much music out there. Must listen to it all. Must keep up.
Relax. You have a whole life ahead of you to listen and explore music. No need to try to cram all that listening into a few short years.

I have a 2nd gen nano, and I really like it. Every so often it plays a loud two tone beep ("da-DE da-DE da-DE") out of the piezoelectric speaker. I haven't been able to figure out what causes it. It is equally likely to do it when it's charged, charging, unplugged, playing music, and when it's off.

I hate iPods.
I love my Archos 404 though. With a screen bigger than any iPod offers, while fitting perfectly in my pocket, and costing only 2/3'rds the price of an iPod... I have yet to find a bad feature about it besides my battery going and having to RMA it... but that was a common issue with everything that has Li-on batteries.

Wel I do like my ipod (nano 4gb), but i'd much rather listen to my music from my nice logitech 2.1 speakers whilst chillaxing with some pepsi or something (appreciating it much more), as opposed to walking around with it playing in my ears when people are trying to talk to me (and of course get ignored).
Say I was riding somewhere on my bike/uni, it makes me feel unsafe because you can't hear what's going on around you
I also don't like playing it quietly with say... one earphone in - I just think it's pointless as the tune will sound rubbish unless you play it at a good volume, (if you know what I mean?!)

I had a 1st gen iPod nano 2gb and loved it but it did not have enough room on it for my liking, so I sold it to my dad and bought a refurbished iPod video 30 gb which I absolutely love. My brother now has the nano and it is still going strong after more then 2 years.
P.S. Refurbished iPods are a good choice, the have been fixed and checked over really well so you know they are going to work and the are a lot cheaper.
iPod adventures? I was trying to win this iPod nano through a contest on this website. You had to submit a question about household chemistry to be answered in an audio podcast. If your question was chosen, you got an iPod. I submitted about 50 questions. About a month or two later I got an e-mail from them. Here's the conversation:
Dear Ivan,
thank you for submitting the Question : "How does soap work?".
Although our competition is over we chose this question to be answered in our upcoming podcast episodes!
We would like to mention you in our audiofile. Could you give us your City you live in?
Thank you and best regards

Dear Chemical Reporter,
Thank you for choosing my question. It's a shame the competition is over, I had big plans for that iPod.
I live in Larnaca, Cyprus.
To be honest, this competition reinforced my view that chemistry is treacherous and useless pseudoscience. You put in a lot of energy and effort into it and all you get in return is a mention in some audiophile and a reminder that you could've won an iPod(but didn't). I only passed chemistry at school because I smiled at the teacher a lot. Physics and maths is more of my thing. I'm gonna study that and then prove chemistry worthless(by developing a better method, just you wait). Some day I'm gonna get you back, chemistry! Someday...
Lots of love,
Ivan

Dear Ivan
well, we had over 240 questions submitted and we set up a prizedraw. So, besides a little luck the odds for you were 1:239 to win an iPod ;-) That's not bad - even better than in a lottery :-)
We cannot provide everybody an iPod but your question was as good as we chose it to be broadcoasted. Hey! That's not bad, uh? Impress your neighbours and colleagues ;-)
So, please don't be disappointed and keep on staying curious!
Thank you and best regards

I dont like Ipods.
I dont need all the gigs of music, because I really only use my mp3 player on coker riders. And the few megs on mine is enough for 8-10 hours of listening.
For me, when I want to enjoy the gigs of music I have, I do that at home, with my computer or stereo/cd player.
But, like I said, I love and live music, and for me, that means I am the one playing the music, composing/ writing the music, performing the music. To be honest, I barely listen to much music, maybe a few songs a day, but I am always playing my guitar, or piano, or drums, or whatever is there for me to jam on.

I have yet to find a bad feature about it besides my battery going and having to RMA it... but that was a common issue with everything that has Li-on batteries. That's what attracted me to the Cowon iAudio 5 (http://www.cowonglobal.com/product/product_i5.php).
Unlike most others it runs off a standard AAA battery. If it runs out I can just swap a new one in and be ready to play again, without having to tether the player to a power point for ten hours.
Rechargeable AAA batteries will wear out too, but I can just buy some new ones. I don't have to have my player abducted by a technician, simply because the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to put a lid on the case.
And if I'm on the move and my last AAA battery runs out, I can waltz into a shop and buy some disposable ones to keep it going.

I have no feelings for iPod.
I have no iPod adventures.
Something must be wrong with me.
I know the difference between know and no.
Maybe this is because iPods and music don't drive my entire life.

I have a 2nd (i think) gen nano. Had it a year now, battery life is good enough that if i fall asleep with it on it's still going when i wake up. I attribute this to always keeping it stuck in my docking alarm clock, so it's always kept at full charge when not in use. it has crashed a couple of times and needed to be formatted but otherwise it's been well behaved.

Except, how do you know what you're going to want to listen to? It's good to have anything you might want, at your disposal.
Say you're in the car for like a reeaally long time...you won't see another computer for that long, so you can either bring like ten hundred CDs or one little bitsy magic box of music. Bitsy magic box of music is much preferable, in my opinion.

I know because I am me, and I know what music I feel like listening to. Just a few nights ago, I wanted to listen to tiny toy guns, so I plugged in the mp3 player, and just dragged the cd into the folder. Went to go put on my shoes, and within the first one coming on, the songs were on and ready.
I dont bring my mp3 player much with me anyways, and picking out songs that I am in the mood to listen to when I do bring it, is rather easy. When I mess with my dads, or sisters Ipod, because they have it so loaded with music, it takes awhile to find what I want to listen to. Same when I am in the car with someone who has one. They go for about 1min looking for a song, listen to it, then search for another minute, then play that song.
And for trips, I don't listen to music anyways, im too busy talking with whoever is riding with me.

I have a Creative MuVo. Got it yesterday in fact haha.
It's practically a Zen it's just... not.... I dunno why...
Ipods aren't all that special.... I mean, sure, they're nice, but they are just an Mp3 player.

Yesterday i purchased the 8GB Nano (the new one) to replace my Sony mp3 player (i got sick of the crap sony program).
So far i am happy with it - still trying to nut out a few things about it as i had never used iTunes before either!
One thing i did notice was when i plugged it in it needed a 54MB software upgrade already - obviously to fix the bugs that weren't evident before its release.
Anyways, i hope it doesnt stuff up on me and provides me with many many hours of listening:)

ive had my ipod video (30gig) for over a year, and have no noticeable battery loss or ill effects. Also mine is quite durable. I have had it fall while on a ride and get ridden over by me on my uni and suffer no damage.

That is one thing the iPods have not been faulted for. They have very good sound quality for a portable. Audiophiles are happy with them.
SanDisk is coming out with a new player called the Sansa View (http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1364)-SanDisk_Sansa_View_MP3_Players.aspx). It's not available yet. Supposed to be available soon (a month or so). $199 for 16GB and 149 for 8GB. Doubles the flash capacity of the new Nanos at the same price points.
The Sansa View is supposed to have gapless playback. Have to wait for reviews of the actual player to know if it actually does gapless well. Downside is that the battery is not user replaceable. Hopefully the battery will be at least technician replaceable or geek replaceable and there will be replacement batteries available. Otherwise it is just destined to be yet another expensive electronic toy that is disposable.

I love gapless play. A lot of my cds have a few songs that lead right into each other. I know I have at least 6 cds that are separated into about 6-8 songs, but when played, its just one long song that is amazing and trancing to listen to.
Gapless is one big feature I like to have.

Gapless is one big feature I like to have.
My 2GB second-generation iPod Nano supports gapless playback. That is crucial for listening to the new-ish Beatles Love album, which is entirely gapless.

I am looking for a second mp3 player. I want something small, durable and cheap. I don't like taking my 30gig iPod with me when I uni and much less use it when I ride. So yeah anything under 150$ that can hold about 500-1000 songs would be awesome. Also a recharge able battery, done so by using usb. I hate changing batteries.

Apple deserves kudos for that. They finally implemented gapless and are one of the few portables to do so. AFAIK the Sansa View is the first player from SanDisk that will have gapless playback.

when my ipod lost its charge, i pried the back case off, and wired a mobile phone battery in parallel to the ipod one, made a hole at the bottom of the case for the wires to come out, then epoxyd the phone battery to the back case
works amazingly well
