My local bestbuy has the new ones out already, I would recomend just getting one of the new ones, ipod classic because it holds alot of stuff and it is relativly cheap.

I would recommend an Archos 404 instead of a regular iPod, it's cheaper, has a larger screen, holds the same 30gb, and plays videos, as well as view pictures.
Plus the brushed metal finish I think looks nicer than an iPod with fingerprints all over it.

Don't use the search feature. Use your brain and some logic.

Also keep in mind that if you do decide to get an ipod, you will have to get itunes as well. That's not bad, but in order to load your ipod, you HAVE to use itunes. There is really no way around it. Itunes will make another copy of your music for its format. Unless you get rid of it once you load it, you will have two copies of the same song on your hard drive, which will eat the space way fast.
Arrg!
you HAVE to use itunes.
Incorrect.

It only makes a copy if you check, "Copy files into iTunes Music Folder" in the preferences. It's right next to "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organzied". And it doesn't change the format when it copies it unless you tell it to change the format.
Personally I like that iTunes keeps all of the files neatly organized and readily accessible.
So that's really a silly thing to hold against the software or apple. There are other valid criticism to be made but yours is not one of them.
Most people that like to rant against apple do so mostly out of spite.

I say go creative or Zune. A bunch of people use them and love them. They really are great and much cheaper than an I-pod. I have only heard good things about both, but have only used a creative personally. So if you want a zune do your research! The battery on I-pods is quite terrible and cost a nice dent to replace.

Either they make one and I don't know about it or... Your relating a companies ability to make mp3 players with way to much space to quality or something like that....

Why would you want to pay $250 for an older 30g ipod, when you can pay the same price and get one that holds 80g? Or maybe i'm wrong.

Why would you buy an iPod? They're unreliable.

I second the earlier vote for a Creative, my friend has one and I've heard good things about them. Dunno about Zune reviews or not.

No I'm curious. Apple currently makes a 160GB iPod so that sells for $349. So I was asking what the equivalent Zune would cost.
You were comparing a 30GB Zune to an 8GB iPod Nano, and your argument was taht the Zune is better because it's a bigger capacity for the same price. But the iPod nano is flashed based, and the Zune is HDD based. So they really aren't comparable but you were trying to make that comparison. If Zune also made a HDD based 160GB MP3 player than we could compare similar products and use price as a consideration.
That is why I was curious how much the 160GB Zune costs. If it doesn't exist than we can't really directly compare Zunes and iPods to determine which is better. So the point of trying to say, "In your face apple, Zune is better." is moot.

160 GB is ridiculous. You can tell me that having the extra space is nice, or whatever, even if you know you'll never use it. It's a complete waste of money. You could buy a 2gb Zune for $70, I believe....you'll still have enough left over to buy a decent trials unicycle.

I get what you mean now. I was comparing them mostly to show I-pods are overpriced your paying for the name and "trendiness" not just the product. (You can get things with more space and arguably better for less.) This is true for most things so what ever.
I guess if you want to knit pick that could be a reason not to compare them...

If the 30GB Zune was also flashed based than maybe I could agree with you, or if you had compared an iPod Shuffle with a 1GB Zune or whatever if one even exists.
Again how much is 160GB Zune? Saying "Who needs a 160GBs anyway?" doesn't really help the case that your trying to argue that Zune's are actually better. Some people want to have their entire music collection in non-compressed CD quality with them at all times and not have to re-load it all the time.
Personally I'd much rather pay $249 for an 80GB iPod than $199 for a 30GB Zune. My music collection even only at MP3 quality is bigger than 30GB. I'd sooner not have to pick and choose what to put on it.
Like I already said many people who like to attack apple and the iPod are motivated primarily by spite.
At 30GBs Zune has found a nice niche of the market. People that want more storage can go with the huge iPod classic, and people who just want enough for a weekends worth of music and video without having to worry about the problems associated with carrying around a hard drive can get an IPod Nano. And those that want something in between can get a 30GB Zune.
But to try to argue that Zune is flat out better is a bit questionable. It is good though for the consumer to realize that they have options other than an iPod.

Also keep in mind that if you do decide to get an ipod, you will have to get itunes as well. How much does iTunes cost again? Oh yeah, it's free. Windows or Mac.
...in order to load your ipod, you HAVE to use itunes. Not true, but using anything else will be a major hassle compared to using iTunes.
Itunes will make another copy of your music for its format. It doesn't change the files unless you ask it to. Also, copying your files into the iTunes Music folder is an option. I just have iTunes keep all the songs in there, but some people might have their own system of organization separately, which would work for them to have copies of the songs outside of the iTunes database. Hard disc space is cheap. 500GB internal drive for $179 at Fry's!
Really, if what you meant was "If you don't like iTunes don't get an iPod," that would be a lot easier to say, more accurate, and pretty much true.
I say go creative or Zune. A bunch of people use them and love them."A bunch" meaning about 10% of the market? :) Definitely if you don't want to use iTunes you should be looking at other brands of player. I don't know which are better than which though.
Why would you buy an iPod? They're unreliable. How so? Better or worse than other brands? And did you mean *all* iPods, some of which are totally different from each other, or one specific type?
160 GB is ridiculous. You can tell me that having the extra space is nice, or whatever, even if you know you'll never use it. It's a complete waste of money.Who are you to say how much disk space is too much for someone else? My iTunes music library is about 36GB and growing. I still have my old LPs to digitize. Most of the content in there is MP3 @ 128 kbps, though now I do 192. None of it is lossless. What if I'm an audiophile and like my music lossless? What if I'm a photographer and use my iPod to back up my pictures when I'm in the field? You definitely don't need to buy more HD space than you'll need, but I appreciate manufacturers that leave the decision of how much up to me.
I-pods are overpriced your paying for the name and "trendiness" not just the product. (You can get things with more space and arguably better for less.)That's right, "arguably" better. The market says otherwise, but sales volume does not mean one product is better than another. Why are iPods so popular, besides their good looks? Because they work. Ease of use is an area where all the other brands are still basically way behind. Some people will always buy stuff due to trendiness, it's true. Why else would the Ford Explorer be so popular? But usability should not be overlooked.
Yes, Jacquie and I like our iPods, we've had three. All have worked fine. The first one only died after we gave it to our 14-year old nephew. Details are cloudy on what happened to it before it died. I highly recommend flash-based players for the kids. Ours mostly go between the house and the car, and play off the dock connector where they get charged at the same time. No battery issues. The 8-10 hours my battery is supposed to be good for is more than enough for me. I've never used it that long without having a chance to recharge it. I intend to eventually fill the 60GB capacity of the one I have now, but by then it will be old and probably considered small. Much bigger ones will be available by then, probably for half the price I paid!
