Hi, so my laptop came, and I've been dying to mess around with garageband, but it doesn't seem to have any beats/tunes in it, and I've checked the software update, but there isn't anything.
help please!
thank you,
Miles

You mean that it doesn't have loops? Are you sure that you're looking in the right place?
If you are looking in the right spot then make a new song and make sure you have a more standard timing, like 4/4. There will be nothing for 5/4, and little for 3/4 or 6/8.

im looking in the right place.
Ive just been using the standard preset timing too, so I dont think that that's an issue.

What you need is a triumphant video. Then, you can get Eddie Van Halen on guitar, and be a truly super band.

Have you checked online yet. I know Garage band has forums and FAQ sites and stuff that you should check.
On a side note, I dont like garageband to much, as with Fruityloops for the windows. They are fun, which is good, but just not high-up enough for what I like to do.

What so you use and why does GB lack what you need? I prefer logic pro.

I use Protools and Cubase. GB to me, is mainly just loops and pre-recorded tracks to put together for fun, and small production recording.
I mean, you look at a lot of recording studios everywhere, its not GB that they are using.:)
I saw the thread-title and thought it was going to be about the vocalist's girlfriend who doesn't like the drummer...
Um... somehow the title of this thread reminded me of this comic (http://www.wulffmorgenthaler.com/striphandler.ashx?stripid=8f56f001-d070-40e0-8b2a-00ab14962463) ;-)

Did you try clicking the button with the eyeball on it on the bottom left corner of the screen?

ok, I used the MIDI aspect of garage band, and it did a decent job, I just had trouble composing songs with only 16 software instruments and a set tempo. plus I like to be able to print sheet music. I don't really record stuff, though I wish I could. I just don't have or know of anyone that has an entire orchestra of instruments.

There VST/sampler software that allows you to create full orchestra pieces. Im not sure if GB supports VST instruments or not, I would look that up first. GB should though.
From there its basically opening up the VST plug-in and just use your mouse to move the notes where, create the rhythm, and fun stuff like that.

Only thing is, to have a triumphant video, it needs to have Eddie Van Halen in it....bogus!

I think you are showing your age.
My first thought was 4 guys in the garage and the neighbors complaining about the noise.

Sorry, mornish, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything...I honestly don't know anything about GB, but the thread title made me think of that movie.

Haha, that actually wasn't a question. That's what I used to do with Garageband, but now I upgraded to Logic.

I got it working with the help of the apple people.
I still need help with pages though.

But how can he have a triumphant video if he hasn't got Eddie Van Halen on guitar?

I'm late to this thread :(
Bill and Ted are awesome.
The only production DVDs I own are Wayne's World though... which are pretty good, though Bill and Ted are way better.

After my friends and I watched that, we quoted that line a whoooole bunch.

"Strange things are afoot at the Circle K" is one of my most favourite quotes from that movie. I keep repeating it in my mind every now and then.
