An interesting surprise awaited us when we came home from a robot demo earlier today... Guess we won't be doing any riding on that again anytime soon. :)

What happened? And what did it look like before?
If you can't find any real pictures of it, maybe a google earth shot?
It looks like it could have been quite the trials setup.

Nah, they just kept spraying it with water until it all fell down and started turning black. :(

We currently think that a nearby transformer popped and started it, that's the only thing nearby that could have done it. Our dad was home, but the fire was behind our garage and he didn't see it until some passing neigbors pulled up and started spraying it with our garden hoses.

It's probably a good thing it burned down, though. It was full of old nasty wood and tons of rusty nails.

So that was at your home? That's scary. Thank goodness it was caught before it spread.

Yeah, just 200 feet from our house! Fortunately not too much of our property is flammable and there was no real direct way for the fire to get to our home.

awww, and I didn't get to ride on it.

Too bad, you may have enjoyed it! There were lots of long footwide planks from a recently demolished horse arena in there that made cool little trails over scary piles of splintery ruins and rusty nails. Would have made some good camera footage...

On the bright side, now we can build a real trials course (need more pallets!), and there aren't any rusty nails or snakes to worry about.

EDIT: and here's an action shot

I'm still waiting for pre-fire pics, Just based on that action shot, it looks like a good setup.

Man, that sucks about your course. Luckily, you can take consolation in the fact that you still have a house to uni on.

Alas, I don't think we have any. My friend took some video of us playing on it a couple of years ago (when we were really terrible...) but I don't know if he still has it.

Now that we don't have any wood left, I don't know how we would build a new one. We're too cheap to buy any, so we'll just have to wait until someone demolishes a building nearby. :)

Look for a charred remains of a squirrel below the transformer. My theory is that a squirrel fried itself in the transformer, caught fire, did a final dive to the grass below and started the fire. Flaming suicide flying squirrels. You gotta watch out for them.

Yeah, now the rusty nails are just on the ground for you to ride over...
