You guys seemed to like when i posted an animation of mine so i figure heck - i'll post a screenshot of my upcoming one.

so here it is:
yea i know. im removing the tombstone. its just too bad there.

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/4129/scene1jl9.png (http://imageshack.us)

there is lots to be done, such as blending the shades on the ground and the mountain, but otherwise, its turning out great. im going for a cartoony, yet realistic animation. it looks pretty good to me.

What program is that? And do you use a Wacom tablet?

It's pivot, made by the man, Peter Bone.

Its called Pivot stickfigure animator. im a veteran at it ;D.

but i have flash, but pivots fun to use on terribly hot days to use. so with pivot i dont need a tablet.

That's crazy. I just DLed that program, and now I see it here.

yeh. its pretty hard to use. but its fun when you get good.

Hm, I might give it a try some time. I love experimenting with those kinds of programs.

Is any scripting involved? I'm decent at ActionScript in Flash.

It's very straightforward. No scripting at all.

PWN'd

It's true... it's very easy compared to Macromedia Flash.

maybe simple, but not easy. smoothness is key in animations. and its extremely hard to pull off. post an animation of yours on imageshack when you get the chance ;D

Well I'm also used to working with 3d animating, rigging and inverse kinematics and skinning. Just rudimentary stuff, never have managed to pull off a fully rigged character, but I know the concepts.

I've also done a fair bit of flash animation, motion/shape tweening and such. Both 3d and 2d animating I've done is all keyframe stuff, except for some special 3d stuff such as softbodies and fluid simulations.

Is this pivot program much different than the flash animation operations?

pivot consists of frame by frame animating. its as if you were making a flash animation without the tweening. try to imagine yourself just making nothing but keyframes with flash, and redrawing each frame.. thats what pivot is, but you dont have to re draw it.

=/ That seems unnecessarily tedious...

Here's the flash animation (http://unicoreok.com/web final.html) I made for my web design class final. I didn't have time to go back and smooth the gradient on the tunnel or fix some other minor errors, there was a time constraint and it all had to be done in class. Not my best work, but it appears to be similar to what you're making. Pretty simple job to do actually.

Not bad. And you're right, animating in Flash for stuff like that is very easy, and with a little bit of ActionScript, one can easily make banners, website intros, etc.

The hardest part of Flash (for me) is just drawing good-looking stuff, like I doubt I could make a good looking car like in your video.

Yeah, we had a week for the animation, the car took me 2 1/2 days, which explains my lack of detail on the animation. It's okay though because I got a 100% I was one of two people in the class to use tweens. We only did very basic stuff over flash in the class, but I taught myself.

Has anyone here used Autodesk 3ds max? My robotics team has access to it, and two freshman made an amazing animation in the span of 5 weeks. (I would have worked on it too, but I had a robot to design.) It was voted the best animation at our regional event.

Never used 3ds max, but I know that it's an industry quality program. I use Blender 3D for all my 3d modeling/animation needs, cause it's free and open source. Next year I'm taking an animation class, and I think we're using 3ds max.

im glad we have fellow animators among these forums. i have flash and i do advanced cinematic animations. but pivot is a more impressive program. there have been pivot animations better than many flash animations.. click on this link to experience major pivot pwnage.

I've tried animation with anim8or. Never really got that much into it. Skeletons and such are hard, and anim8or pales in comparison to Blender.

I should take a class to get better at all this.

Never heard of anim8or...but yeah, Blender is completely awesome. Steep learning curve for the interface, especially if you've never touched 3D art before, but it's very powerful.

Definatley agreed on that much. I need to take a class. I've read online tutorials for Blender, but it's just way too complicated. I need a teacher that will answer questions and such.

You should post some of your work dudewithasock I'd enjoy looking at it.

Poseidon, if you ever have any questions about the Blender interface, don't hesitate to ask me.

And I'm sad to say I don't have a scene that is totally finished...my computer sucks too badly right now and can't handle the processing power needed to make a full render. Here's a couple half-finished things, though:

And some stuff I did with the particle generator:

Thank you dudewithasock. If I ever need any help I'll ask you. You seem to know what you're doing.

Sorry about your comp. That sucks that you can't do a full render.

i didn't really draw it. you have to connect sticks together. and i just happen to be good at it ;D. the name of the animation im working on is called "Graveyard" and i needed someplace to put it. but i found a better place. thanks

i just made a really simple animation of a fighting combo, preparing myself for "graveyard"..

http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/4530/smoothlw9.gif (http://imageshack.us)

the animation is coming out to be brilliant. if i can, i'll post the finished product.
