they suck so much.

1. they are very weak.

2. there is almost nothing you can do on them that you can't do better on a skateboard.

3. they weigh like 8 pounds (ie. very very heavy)

4. they are way overpriced for the quality (like $100.)

thats my opinion.

the display model is fun to ride around the store on the smooth floor but they feel like they wouldn't be stable riding outside. Plus they are expensive

They are fun...ONLY if you are pulled by a rope attached to a bike. Under all other circumstances, they are pretty lame.

I'd say they're fun for about...1 week. Get a skateboard/longbord/flowboard instead.

Everything is fun if pulled by a rope attached to a bike!

Except for a small child.

Seriously though, it turns the 'snowboard' effect created by the ripstick into a 'wakeboard' effect. You can carve out to the sides of the bike...I recommend it. Although, falling is much worse on pavement than it is on water.

they try to be a crosstrainer for snowboarding and nail 1/2 of it and fail miserably for the other half of it

the get the good carving (from what i have heard) but thier are no sliding action at all. which is a large part of snowboarding.

and tons/most of them (flowboarders) hate freebords cause they more accurately imitate snowboards which both were designed to do

That sounds so much pure bias.
Some skateboarders seem to have a disdain for anything that isn't a pure skateboard, whether it be snakeboard, waveboard or freeboard. Why?

I found ripsticks fun, mine does not seem to be in any way weak, it is far more manoeverable than a skateboard, leading to a host of different tricks. The weight hardly matters because I am riding it, not carrying it.
And I paid the UK equivalent of only about 50 dollars.

Freeboard: only just heard of them, looks worth a go too. Not sure about having to keep walking back up the hill though.

Of all these variants, the skateboard is the only one I have never wanted to ride. But I see no reason to be critical of those who do.
