View Full Version : Poll:Who wants Hazmat to quit replying to theads that are years old?

mscalisi

I've clicked on several threads now, read a number of replies before realizing that the thread was from 2005 or before. I find this irritating since the replies are often irrelevent, and sometimes you you want to reply to a post but realize the person has long since left the board.

What do y'all think?

I like old threads. They bring in a breeze of graveyard air into these stale forums. I sometimes revive some myself.

You don't have to read them if you don't want to.

...but you don't see the date until after you open the thread, and I usually don't think to check until it starts looking fishy.

You know what that is? Its the date when this thread was made by you. In each thread, it says it right on the top left corner of every post. Its also the very first thing I look at as I open a thread. You should try it sometimes.

What I dont like, are threads that single out one person because you have a slight problem about them.

Grow up.

Not at all, it might be a question or issue that's long been resolved, and you don't see that until the end.

by saying dont pring back old threads tahts like telling people not to search, cause they see old threads when they searc
No, people expect to see old theads when they search.

Also, I think bringing up old threads can sometimes be relevent...but sometimes it seems as though people dig up old threads just to mess with people, like when they do it to a whole bunch at once. I don't appreciate that.

I think in a few years Hazmat should bring this thread back. That would be awsome. I dont find it annoying i think its funny that people will post on a thread and then find out they are giving advice to someone who needed it several years ago :p

Oh, I was trying to be clever, it's obvious I failed.

I had no idea how annoyed you were, because yes, old treatds can be annoying when you like to help out people that... never will read the answer you spend time on to write.

From reading what Hazmat has been bringing up again, I think he's just an enthousiast unicyclist. (can you blame him?)

And from you did not really had the idea you were agressively attacking him.
"Blatent forum abuse" is your opinion, and for the rest I didn't read any immature or hars language.

So I guess the problem can be solved -or reduced- in a nice way.

I like it, old threads are just as interesting as new ones, especially when they have the bizarre ramblings of Gluteous Maximus in them.
+1
And Gluteous Maximus is/was defintly someone I'd like meet IRL.

bizarre ramblings
Well, I can imagen a person like Hazmat might have a same opinion as Gluteus Maximus on what is bizarre.
And Hazmat is also someone I'd like to meet (if I didn't already without knowing).

I find too much is irritating. I don't mind all of them, I didn't even notice the Mars thread was old until now.

If you have good reason to tack a post onto an older thread, go ahead and resurrect it. But to bump them just because they are old is not my idea of a walk down memory lane.

My thoughts exactly. No they weren't... they were MY thoughts exactly. Sometimes when I'm feeling lazy, rather than posting, I wait for monkeyman to say it for me. Or, I read to the end of the thread and find he's already said it and saved me time. The monkey is the man. If I had a main man it would be monkeyman.

Sometimes you can get lucky with the timing. If a thread I don't recognize suddenly shows up with a lot of posts, I glance over to see if Hazmat is the last one to reply. If so, it's an old thread. You can do that "oldness" analysis in a glance.

I'm also going to train myself to glance at the date immediately after clicking a thread.

Edit: you can also check who created the thread. If it's someone who doesn't post any more, it's old. Again, all this analysis can be done in the time it takes to reach for the mouse.

I'm touched, guys. I had no idea we were similar. Since we're so alike, why not use it to our advantage? With all three of us, we can spread the Faith to many people around the world! I'm thinking something like the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Speaking of which, what do you get when you cross an Atheist and a Jehovah's Witness?

Someone who knocks on your door for no reason.

That should do it.
Stick that at the top of your reply and everyone can be warned.

I'm in the fortunate position of having been blatantly abusing this forum for some time now, how else do you think I got to 16k posts?, so I tend to recognise old threads a lot quicker than most, mainly because chances are offensively high that I posted in it at some stage.
As soon as I see a post of mine without capitals and punctuation, I know it's old.
FoolProof system.
Well, almost.

I quite like reading old threads again, it might be a kewl idea to add the RESSURECTED THREAD bit to your post so people will know it's an old one if they read the newest post first.
If they don't, they're screwed unless they check the date.
I wouldn't say go out and ressurect as many old threads as you can in a day, but if you come accross one while doing a search and feel like making a contribution to an old discussion, go for it.
