Who do you think is the better street rider, Xavier Collos or Shaun Johanneson? They are both arguably the worlds best riders but who do you think is THE BEST?
for me it has to be Johanneson although it is very very very close!

Johanneson. Hands down.

johanneson is more flip tricks and collos is more flatland and big street so there hard to compare
I enjoy Xavier's riding more. He's got this incredible style and flow. Although, Shaun is also good.

myself, i like watching Xav more but Shaun is equally insane.

Shauns videos tend to bore me after a little. Xav videos are more versatile and aren't just flip after flip after flip.
Shauns a great rider, and I know he is capable of doing flatland and some big street moves, but in his videos, he mainly focuses on a few locations, with a lot of flips.
Xav, I know he is capable of a lot of flips, but he always mixes his videos up with big drops and sets, flatland, and some great street.
Both are great riders, but video wise, I enjoy Xav a lot more. If I could ride with them in person, they would both be great riders to ride with.

Yeah thats how I feel too. I really like Xav's flatland stuff, he is creative with his new combos and stuff, they all look visibly different unlike flip tricks.

At competitions, whoever has the best tricks doesn't always win. The biggest factor is consistency.
For example, I'll use person A and person B. Person A can triple flip 1/5 times. Person B can doubleflip 4/5 times. Person B will almost always win, because the judge would rather see a double be hit on the first time than a triple hit after 4 tries.

I really hope someone gets the FLUCK street competition on (decent quality)video, it will be great to see these two compete.
Also how many more people are going to say "they've got different styles, Shaun does more flips and Xav is better at flatland". Come on people we get the point and we are going on three pages of posts on the subject.

I can't compare them. In my mind they are equally skilled. The only things setting them apart are their videos. I think their skills are actualy pretty similar but their filming styles are very different. Shaun tends to make faster videos with smaller lines, mostly shot around the same areas. Xavier tends to shoot longer more versatile lines in a larger variety of areas.
The thing is, all we the public ever seen from both of them, is their videos. Videography being an art form I don't really think videos are comparable. Therefore without a strict trick list including consistency ratios, or a head to head competition on the same area, you cannot compare them.
They are just too good at what they do.
Recently in the back it up game and his flat trip video, I was seeing a much more technical side to Xav's riding, more flips and the like. This means he can clearly bust out similar stuff to Shaun (I don't know if he can do everything Shaun can though). Of course alot of people say that Xav's style is all about flow and that Shaun sticks to pure technique, but watching videos like his Callout video, I think its quite obvious that Shaun can throw down some very flowy lines.
If I were asked to put money down on a winner at FLUCK I would say Kevin, not because he is better than them, just that I think they would be so evenly matched that they couldn't tie them for first, you need a first place and since Kevin is Canadian and cool he would be the winner.

The question should be who can best do their street routine in a competition situation. The stuff I've seen from Xavier has all been skillfully edited and produced video. That makes him look very good and very smooth. Can he do the same in competition where you can't make things look better by editing?
The one video I saw of Xavier in a competition had him missing a lot of his tricks and it lacked flow.
Shaun is also going to have to demonstrate his skills in a competition situation. Though I have confidence he can.
All FLUCK is going to answer is who is better at performing a street routine in a competition situation. It's not necessarily going to answer who is the most creative or skilled rider or who is the best representative of the sport.

I think it will be very different in a competition than in a video, if you mess up on a video you just edit it out, if it looks better from above or from a certain angle the judges may not be able to see it like you want. In Xav's vids he normaly shows short clips of single tricks so he could have just tried and tried over again untill he hit it but like in shauns 2nd flip vid he hits trick after trick after trick showing he is consistant. also the way the videos are eddited are different. so not only are the styles different so is the edditing of the videos making it even harder to judge fairly. I think at FLUCK shaun will win or at least he should win but I have only seen their videos.
also what would you define the meaning of "street" as in unicycling? trials and muni are easy to reconise and have clear definitions but if street can be so different how can it ever be judged fairly, how can you judge something if you dont know what you are judging?
I really hope someone gets the FLUCK street competition on (decent quality)video, it will be great to see these two compete.
I second that

Douglas Adams was witty, Monty Python's skits where witty, Ronnie Barker was witty and unfourtunately John Cleese still thinks he is witty..
shauns intros where and still are
kind of annoying...(except the paper bag one, i giggled)
But he pwns at flips :p
Xav's videos have heaps more variaty though. flips are insane, but they dont do much visualy. Although i love some of shauns new stuff. i dunno. i dont really care. They both are awsome at what they do! i am off to find my own niche

How about Luke Collalto as the world's best? The stuff I've seen him do is insane. He doesn't do any handrail stuff, but he's 14. People should be watching out for this guy. And not to burst anyone's bubble, but last I heard, Xavier actually won't be going to FLUCK due to a family member's marriage I believe. However, I've ridden with both of them for a significant amount of time and I noticed that Shaun is much more consistent than any other rider I've ridden with. He expects to land everything, and I saw him do... I think... 15 different flip tricks in a row without dismounting...CRAZY. Also, as for the competition thing. I don't think that competitions are a good judge of who the best riders are. I'm not knocking them at all, street comps are great fun! But as for who beats who, it doesn't really matter to me. Videos are the best way to compete for us, and to see what each person is doing to improve and progress the sport.

There is no doubt about Luke C. However I haven't seen him to anything too creative, or tech run style. He does on the other hand, have a few flip tricks that hold set records.
Xavier style of videos are obviously more impressive than my own. A few reasons.
Area-
He lives in France, the most beautiful country in Europe (in my opinion), guy is going to find some nice backdrops.
Multiple Styles-
Not only does he rip street, but mixes it with flatland. Two different styles in one vid is impressive.
Filmer-
Vids just look better when someone has a filmer. Lines can be a lot longer and stuff looks a lot better. (Keep in mind, if someone gets off there line, a tripod will see it, a filmer angle won't, since the filmer can move with the rider.)
However to me bases it off street, and not flatland, or videos, I think I have it. A lot of people think i'm all tech, and granted that it more now than anything, but I have done some big rails, some big set jumps (11 set, 8 set flip and 180). It's more about flips cause it gives me a variaty of what to do, when I can't use a lot of stuff since there is no filmer most of the time. Need a small area, plus i'm not into footplants or crankgrabs. Of course in a competition I probably would not win. I have no experience with performing in front of people. Now a lot of people say it's fun and so relaxed that it's easy to go out in front of people. However I get very nervous in situations like that, and will most liked fail because of bodily shaking. haha. I don't really expect to win at FLUCK this year. If someone is calm and collected they will perform better than myself.
p.s. I like threads like these, lol. And I thank the people that picked me. It's hard to show off a lot of skill when flips are young and hard to tell apart. Without a filmer it's tough to get good big spots to use in a variaty. Every clip I do is different from one another, however in a whole, I do the same tricks over and over from movie to movie. Sorry, kinda lacking a lot of good spots and movement. Trying to impress in some of the smallest areas, it's no good.

I've ridden in front of people like that several times before and I don't get used to it. Bodily shaking, or also riding stiff and sluggish.... yeah I do that too. :p
I was talking with David Weichenberger, he said that the last FLUCK was fun and laid back, not too serious about the competition. So it should be a lot of fun.

I also love Spencer and Lukes riding. I love how they both go from a trick right into a wheelwalk or something, then do another flip or spin to another trick. Stringing tricks together without ever going to the pedals, I think, is very great to watch.

It seems to me that a lot of Xavier's flow comes from the way he lands a trick. When he lands, he's not completely balanced, like that of Shaun. Most people would hop a few times or fall in the same situation, where as Xavier somehow manages to recover very quickly.

This is the billionth time this thread has been up, let me just put things right...
Xav's style is just as repetative as shaun's, crank roll after crank roll and plenty of standard flip tricks.
Kevin McMullin told me that Shaun is one of the most consistant riders he has ever seen, this is the key to contest riding.
Shaun invents tricks that no one has even thought of, whether you like flips or not, you've got to appreciate that.
Whoever called Xav big street must seriously be joking, I'm more big street than Xav.
Shaun wins hands down, not that Xav is a bad rider, just don't compare him to Shaun.

Hmmm not sure that i agree with all of that jase, i think he is comparible with shaun for definet, his flatland is probably as pioneering as shauns flip tricks, possibly not quite as because Dan Heaton can take alot of credit, he is quite big street, i dont think he specialises in it but you cant argue with 8 set hand rails and 6 set 360s, and i think he did a 10 in defect im not sure. but i love the way he rides, i would like to see him put some different flip tricks down sets and incorporate them into runs, i would also like to see what shaun can do, to be honest i reckon he could do almost all the flatland tricks xav does from what ive spoken to him about and seen in his Syko Video

For me the best street rider in all is Kevin McMullin.

Alright mate, calm down.
I think, as a few people are pointing out, they both have very different styles. Would it be possible to stop comparing them? I mean, they both read the forums and I'm sure niether really want to be put in this awkward situation.
By all means talk about their good and bad points, but leave out the 'He's LAME' kinda stuff.
I believe (how I see it) Shaun is very good at freestyle, big street, tech street, (pretty good at) flatlanding and is now starting to go bigger with his tech-ier tricks.
Xav is good at freestyle, tech street, flatlanding and is pretty good at going big.
Street is very hard to judge. And we're missing out a lot of other VERY good riders.

Their styles are different and you can't compare them, you're right there. But did Luke ever call someone lame?
All he said is that Shaun was over-competitive, which frankly I think is true. You can very often see Shaun dissing other riders and styles under the name of critique. Just think about Shaun's freestyle thread, or the the video thread of that guy doing a 109cm up and many many other threads. If you read the posts by Shaun in those threads you'll see how it's possible to think of him as over-competitive.
Shaun, if you read this, please take your time with answering, even better go back and find your posts in those thread. I'm sure you'll see where I'm coming from.
