Hey everyone, I submitted this video to the judges at BUC and it won! Woohoo! Please note that there are a few grinds in there that are blind, but I didn't label them because they are just straight grinds (the rail just before the credits is done blind).

Enjoy! I had fun making it.

Look at the overblunt people, you can see Shaun in the background completley unfazed (phazed?).

Excellent vid, I loved seeing it so much, you deserved to win for sure.

Great seeing you again,

Who's was that KH unicycle in it though?

Filming with Kevin is quite an experience because he doesn't seem to give up on anything until he lands it or is too injured to try anymore...

Awesome work man!

Those blind grinds were great. I loved the 360-ish thing to grind and the last grind on that green rail (grind to blunt?).

I wasn't expecting a six set flip, but it was nice.

Was that a late 180 down the six?

Yeah, the trick was like a 270 into a blind grind. I think you could do a full 360, because you turn to the left and grind on your left if I'm correct. The trick on the rail is labeled as an oveblunt. I start on my good side, hop over and grind on my blind side. And as for the 180, yeah, it was meant to be late, but it wasn't as good as I wanted it. Take it as you want. My favourite part of filming for it was hanging out with Shaun, and convincing the security guard to let me stay so I could hit the blind grind down 9. Good times.

Kevin McMullinThat was great! But where's the shin, knee, *ANKLE*, wrist and arm guards? The only protection you wore was your helmet, and that's about the only thing you seem NOT to need, based on those bails. :D:cool::rolleyes::p Fantastic vid!

i think he had his kh guards under it, cause i don't think you would be running up the stairs after landing on your knee(3:17 in particular, many other times in vid, too). but if he wasn't wearing pads i would have to say he has pretty fat looking legs. ;)

Did you see him in Defect? He has the same level of protection and takes A LOT of nasty falls, a lot of rag-doll rolls.

Kevin, your bones and joints must be very rubbery (except maybee for your ankles:rolleyes:)

I beg to differ on almost everything you say. Although its true that in some clips, I am not wearing a helmet or gloves, I guarentee you that anytime I am not wearing shorts, I have my KH leg armour on under my pants. Also, I wear a helmet almost all the time now, except when I'm just fooling around, and that tends to be when I land some of my coolest tricks, just for fun, not a true focus on them (ie the overblunt).

As for not needing a helmet, please watch the very first fall I have in the video. I was pleased to have my life after that one. I landed straight on the back of my head, but thanks to the helmet, I was able to get right back up and try it again. I am a strong advocate of leg armour and helmets, and I believe that gloves should be used to save your hands from a little bit of scratching, but I don't think they prevent injury, so I usually only wear them when my hands get sore.

So I ask that people please don't comment on the fact that I don't look like a knight while I'm out there riding and trying to get respect from people. I assure everyone that I am always taking the proper safety precautions and riding within what I believe to be my limits, with whatever gear I happen to have on at the time.

I do not believe that everyone should be wearing the same protection when doing the same tricks. For example, MuniAddict, I often hop down 7 sets, or down 4 foot drops without any protective gear on, but that's because it's just like riding for me, I do it every day. However, I wouldn't suggest to you that you do the same. I'm not trying to be cocky or shoot down your riding or anything, I'm just making a point that you haven't ridden with me and don't understand my style of riding and filming.

I'm sorry if this post seems a little long for how small the comment was, but I think it was a bit ignorant and stuck in there. Claiming that someone isn't wearing any protection can sometimes turn out a little bad for someone.

Peace and blessings,
Kevin McMullin

Come on now, I can't be going out and stealing Yoggi's trademark... and my ankle is almost good enough to ride on. It has been nearly a month, and its still swollen and all that, but it is starting to be able to take some impact. I'm sure your ankle will be completely better sooner than mine though. Haha.

Wow great stuff. Would you say your blind grind and normal grind are up to the same level?

The stuff I really liked in the video were the blunt and blind down the 6 stair kink, 9 stair blind grind, that overblind thing, and I also thought 6 stair crankflip was pretty good. I think the eventual goal with flips down sets would be to catch the flip while your are still above the top stair of the set you are jumping off of (like how skaters catch their flips).

Peace and blessings,
Kevin McMullinOk, I think I understand you a little better now. First, I could not tell that you were wearing shin guards, since you say they were hidden under your pants; second, i was kidding about not needing a helmet, although maybe I should have inserted a ;) in there. Everyone really has to decide for themselves how much protection is best; for me, my philosophy is, "better safe than sorry", so I just throw everything on, even though it takes a long time to get it all on. Again, I loved the video, and you are an amazing rider!:D

Looks like I have a very similar attitude towards safety gear as one of my favourite riders does. Except I don't hop down 7 sets without gear. But then again, I've been riding for less than a year.

Great video, Kevin! You keep giving me things to work towards.

Kevin does indeed probably do the most tech grinds at the moment but I actually still prefer Dan Cowling's style just because he goes big and smooth (nothing but pedal).

Here are my thoughts. Thanks for the compliments, but I don't think I do the most tech grinds whatsoever. Shaun Johanneson does some foolish tech grinds...flipping in and out and what not, with seat drops in between..he definitely doesn't get enough credit for that. What I try to do is find cool rails and do something creative with them. For example, that gap out to rail that I do on a 9 set. I much prefer that grind to another 9 set grind, even though I didn't really land it. Dan Cowling's grinds are nice indeed, but I would love to see him get a little more creative (I haven't seen anything else from him, so maybe he does). Also, I don't try to go big with my grinding anymore, and I am completely satisfied with my smoothness haha. There are certainly others out there that are going to go bigger than I am on a handrail, and I'm fine with that. I just hope I can help pave the way to some cooler grinds. I'd love if other people jumped in with me. That's about all I think...

Here are my thoughts in regard to your thoughts. Yeah you have a good attitude for your rails, as far as I know you're the most seasoned pro amongst us... who taught you? Or, how did you find out that people can hit rails on unis? Your video back in the day "Kevin McMullin, street unicyclist" is, I think, the main reason I got really interested in unicycling (dude, you jumped UP stairs!).

Can you comment on the differences between (naturally) grinding on your front foot or on your back foot? Is one better than the other?

Thoughts on thoughts on thoughts...had to do it...

I think was probably one of the first 5 riders to be doing handrails, at least on a regular basis. I know Dan Heaton and Dan Doerksen were ahead of me, and I'm not sure who else. Likely some riders who haven't continued riding at all. Back then no one had tried their back foot I don't think, it just didn't seem natural, so I tried to get my own little thing going and experimented on only the crank, that led to me slipping out a lot and getting hurt. That's when I moved back to all pedal.

As for my Street Unicyclist video, that's a classic... I will always love it, although I actually don't have any version of it saved on my computer haha. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

In response to your question on grinding on both feet, its very awkward at first, but once you get used to it its not too bad. I would definitely not go as far to say that I'm equal on both feet, mostly because I'm not as consistent on my back foot. However, after grinding on both front and back, I would say that I think you have it easier if you naturally grind on your back foot. It's easier to keep a long grind going, because you're dragging your foot rather than having all your weight at the front of the slide kind of... just my opinion, I'm sure others would argue.

There ya go!

man you almost had that kinked rail right at the end. It's weird how the front of your tyre kind of slowly starts leaning towards the rail until it touches and then it's all over. I guess that'd be really hard to avoid on kinked rails? What are you gonna be thinking about if you try that one again? More speed? It'd be awesome to hit an over blunt on it.

Does anyone know of any good skate/ski helmets that have in built headphones? I'd like to get a good helmet for skiing and unicycling...
