View Full Version : Hurrah - coker idling!

Finally got to grips with idling my 36er today... with plenty of idling practice already done on the 29" I thought it was time to give it another go. And it worked quite well; I was able to mount, idle a bit, ride round to where my friend was getting his bike, then idle whilst waiting for him before we rode off together.

I'm quite excited by it all; should be very useful at traffic lights, although I do require quite a bit of space to do it in. I've also started to get to grips with hopping the thing, which is also coming along nicely.

To anyone else who's trying to do this: it really is possible. And I don't really have amazing balance or fitness or anything else. One thing I love about uni is that things that start of seeming physically impossible eventually become second nature - it starts with learning to ride the thing, but is repeated to some extent with every new skill you learn :)

Congratulations! Now you can knock over everybody at the traffic light! :)

In other words, idling on such a large wheel is more useful as a challenging skill, but requires a lot of room to do it. At lights I usually just get off (if I know I'm going to be waiting). People like seeing you remount anyway.

I think I'd call that a plus! :D

I've got a vague plan that I can idle once I've looked around and made sure nobody else is there ;)

Mmmmm. I'm hoping that hopping the thing will be more useful for waiting. Getting off is annoying, as the lights almost always change immediately I'm committed to dismounting :(

Congratulations! I'm sorry to tell you that you've now exhausted every possible thing that can be done with a Coker. It's been proven. With science. Riding your coker just won't be all that fun anymore.

So just go ahead and send it my way.

Seriously, though, congrats. I can't even ride one, much less idle.

Where's the monitor?

Can't people figure out this is Just Conversation, and get back to Rec.Sport?

Congrats, anyway!

Thanks, Billy :)

I did actually have the strange feeling as I posted that I was committing some kind of awful social gaffe by actually talking about unicycling in JC ;)

Sure. Please send me a sufficiently large stamped, addressed envelope with enough stamps on it ;)

Riding the coker isn't that hard; you just have to get used to everything happening very sloooooooooooooooooowly. Apart from when the ground comes up to be friendly - that happens very fast. ;)

I'll be sure to tell my coker that the next time it pedalbites me or dumps me in the dirt :-)

Your sig made me lose the game! You should try playing Final Countdown (gwan, ask me about it, but once you know the rules you'll be playing) ;)

Nice! I can idle a little bit but I'm not very good at it...the very best way is to ride right next to the light pole and hold on...I even do that on my 20" wheel, if there's one around (:
