yeah cool, thats what i thought. But I was at an endurance mountain bike race last month on my muni, when I got talking to one of the top solo riders, and he had just started riding a uni, and he was saying "moo-nee".
Hehe, everyone's different.

That's because he's a "loo-ney".

He's alright. His name it Saul Britton. Google it. I'm just impressed to have had a conversation with him! And even more stoked that he has started unicycling.:D :D

i think it's just a case of if you try and pronounce a y somewhere between the m and the n or not. Personally I go for moo-knee, it's just easier to pronounce than meyou - knee which seems to be more popular.

It begins with the greek letter, mu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_%28letter%29), or µ, and therefore is pronounced myoonee.

oh, dude! µni!

we even borrowed the word in french but we pronounce it : Münee
("ü" sound does not exists in english and "ee" is very short. remember that french is one of the very rare languages with no tonic accent).

The idea is that it's "Uni" with an "M" on the front. M-Uni. MUni.

edit: oops, someone already said this:rolleyes:

Moonie, Mun eye, Mun eee, and Em ooonie are all completely unexceptable replacements for the word. Saying mewnee properly demands a fairly good command of the english rules of phonetics. Or funeticks, which ever suits your fancy.

I pronounce it like "uni" (yoo-nee) with an "m" for mountain in front. MUni.

That's got to be the awesomest way to spell muni ever. Is there some special keyboard code you use to type the letter mu? I don't think I'll ever spell µni any other way again. From a distance, it looks like plain ol' uni, but we all know what it really says.

You were half way there...I stood on the shoulders of your greatness and continued where no man had dared before...and I believe that I have indeed answered THE question.

µニ

Combining the forces of the great and powerful Greeks with the all seeing, all knowing wisdom of the ancient Japanese, we arrive at our answer.

Mountain Unicycling is indeed the answer the the ultimate question.

Mu (µ) Ni (ニ)
40 (! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_(letter))) 2 (! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ni_(kana)))
42 (! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Answer_to_Life,_the_Universe,_and_Everything))

Behold the power of mountain unicycling. The answer to life's question.

One would think that if people say it moo-nee, that they would say uni as oo-nee? :p

I say it moo-knee, because that's how it would be pronounced if it were a normal word. Muni would be pronouned differently than uni. It's just the rules of pronounciation.

Plus I think that it's not only easier to say moo-knee than m-you-knee, but I personally think that m-you-knee sounds just a little dorkier.

However, given the whole µニ thing, I may have to start pronouncing it as that would be pronounced...did I just say something about being dorky? :)
