Just thought i'd suss out what protection you all wear while uni'ing, and what you do to make it more 'comfortable' (the latter is mainly aimed at males!!)

I wear helmet, soccer shin guards, and my newest addition is bike shorts ;)

661 shin guards.

They are comfy enough as is, and I never notice how hot they get because I am riding, and the last thing I want to think of is "Hmm, my legs are hot" lol.

661 4x4 shinguards, KH gloves and a skater helmet.

I don't wear bike shorts, although wouldn't mind trying.

I wear 661 4X4s for MUni and i usually wear bike gloves, I am getting KH wrist wrap gloves when that Nimbus finally arrives. I wear bike shorts when riding longer than a few kms

I wore soccer shin-pads when i was learning.

Here (http://www.einradladen.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10&products_id=55&osCsid=73bbbcc5ddc6da925f716a1a586afd12).

I like skater helmets because they seem to cover a bigger area and look nicer. The only problem, they are pretty hot, but I got used to that fairly quickly.

Those pads are great! i was after some that cover my knee aswell but couldnt find any down my small corner of the world:(
Yep, i feel safe in my skater helmet, i havent really found it hot as i used to skateboard quite a lot so its just 'normal' for me, although come to think of it it is a bit hotter than my road riding helmet!

They are great, but as Jerrick said they can get a bit hot, especially in the summer. But then again, down here, you'd have to wear a refrigerator if you didn't want to get hot in the summer. I don't think I'll be able to wear my helmet, though.

And I'm sure you could order 661s from the Aussie UDC.
Edit: KH percussion (http://www.unicycle.au.com/View.php?action=ProductDetail&Code=KHPA) armour - that's what I'm getting next.

Protec Helmet
Fox Racing Gloves
661's
Ankle Guards (only because my cranks have huge nubs)
Bike Shorts

wrist guards.

Also, bike shorts, but I never thought of that as "protection."

No helmet. This is for road.

Unibugg

cycling helmet
gloves (with the fingers cut)
wrist guards
knee pads

and most of the time cycling shorts in addition to pants... especially for longer rides.

It takes me awhile to get prepared, but some of the few times I decided not to wear this, I was sorry. I never realized that a helmet can spare you from low hanging branches. ;) Safety equipment makes a good impression to young kids as well as shows motorists that I am not a clown on "their" road.

i was discussing this with my flatmate the other day after he had a shot of my uni and found it uncomfortable. I go with a "lift" before getting on the saddle. we decided it might be a good idea to have a recess in the saddle....thoughts?

I have two old KH saddles. I cut a wedge off the front then cut a grove down the center and find that much more comfortable. I cut a teardrop shaped recess instead of a groove in my first saddle and found that there was too much pressure on the two thin ridges. my conclusion was that for me the most comfortable modified KH seat has a grove about 1.5cm wide near the front tapering to about 1 cm near the back.

this may not be true for everyone but i found it made my seat much more comfortable.

I knew somebody would say that. Good job, you proved my mind right.

I only wear a skate pro-tec helmet. I just started unicycling about a month ago. So I've never done anything that requires shin-guards, and anything else. OH! Sometimes I wear bike gloves. The only real injury is a bad pedal scrape when my foot fell off mid-rev. :)

Yeah, i have a 'lift' before i get onto the saddle too - i wouldnt ever attempt to ride it without a bit of 'positioning' first!

I am a super wimp! nobody can beat me!
I started wearing:
- a skateboard Helmet after knockin my head on the floor (what a strange noise!)
- KH gloves after hurting my wrists badly
those I wear all the time

now I can add:
- cycling shorts (after crushing my **)
- 661 4x4 (pedal bites)
- back leg protections -kick-boxing protection- (after breaking my Achille's tendon)
- ankle reinforcement (after badly spraining an ankle -in fact breaking the strange thing that weld together two parts of my foot-)
- security shoes (after exploding a toe)

waiting for the next accident to reinforce my armour.:o

I have skate style helmet, KH Pulse Gloves and 661 4x4, but I don't ever really wear those. I use plastic pedals so I don't hurt my shins badly.

Have you considered unicycling in an army tank?

And those injuries sound painful, ouch. I hope you've recovered.

i wear:

- Lizard skin Shin guards ( i always wear shinguards, coz my shins are like magnets for the Mosh pedals)

- One Glove on my right hand

- Helmet - i never wear it! i kno i should, but i have ridden without one for so long, that now riding with one feels strange and makes my head sweat a HEAP more, wen it does without the helmet!

I just today bought a pair of impact shorts, used mostly for roller blading and snowboarding. It's got padding for all around for the hips and also a really good firm impact area for the tailbone, which is the main reason i bought them. There is also a removeable cup, which is good 'cause it's hard to ride with one on.
