Hi gang,
I have added several files to the unicycling archives at ftp.mcs.kent.edu (ftp://ftp.mcs.kent.edu).
Hockey rules: We have an updated set of unicycle hockey rules in text format.
You will find them in pub/Unicycling/games/hockey/hockey_rules.Z
USA levels: I have started a section, pub/Unicycling/USA-levels, which I hope
one day will contain hints on how to achieve all ten levels of the Unicycling
Society of America. Right now it contains advice on two: riding over a 10x10
obstacle and riding down a 15cm drop. I took the first one from an earlier
posting, and I wrote the second one myself. My goal is to have each hint file
read as a single, coherent article, so I may combine multiple postings into one
stream of thought.
Here is an sample, my article on riding down a drop. Let me know if it needs
any changes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can practice this by riding off curbs. When starting make sure the curb is
regular, with a flat surface all the way to the edge and then a straight drop.
The street should be fairly level at the base of the curb. You can work on
trickier curbs later.
To ride off the curb, approach it at a relaxed but even pace. Ride off the
edge, and be ready for the unicycle to drop a bit underneath your seat. You
will want to land with your weight on the pedals, which reduces pain and lets
your legs act as shock absorbers. Start moving when you land and settle back
down on the unicycle.
If you don't want to think a whole lot, just go try it and see what happens. It
may be easier than you expect.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feel free to submit articles for the USA_levels. I am a level 2, and can do
about half of levels 3 and 4, so I will need some help.
