New list owner

Greetings List Members,

My name is Beirne Konarski and I am the new maintainer of the unicycling mailing
list. Terry can no longer run it and I volunteered to take his place since I did
not want to see the list disappear. I expect to be able to run it for about a
year, until I graduate from Kent State, so I will probably look for my
replacement next spring. In the meantime, I want to keep the list going and even
expand it. Here are my goals:

Publicize the list. I plan to advertise it some in Internet and unicycling
circles to increase membership.

Write a FAQ. I plan to do this soon but will need help and critiques
from the list.

Expand the FTP archive: I will also get the files that Terry has at santafe.edu
and will make them available at Kent. I will provide an address later. I would
like to have information available giving tips on all the skills in the ten
skill levels of the Unicycling Society of America. Once again I will need some
help, since I am a level 2 (I can do most of the skills for levels 3 and 4).

What I would like you to do:

Change your unicycling mailing address from unicycling@santafe.edu to
unicycling@mcs.kent.edu. Santafe will soon reject mail to the unicycling list.

Send me your comments and suggestions. You can write to me directly at
bkonarsk@mcs.kent.edu, or you can write to the list if you want the group
to see it.

Good idea. I'll try to do the same at the 2nd British Unicycle Convention 20/21
May. Details of this event shall follow folks! Non-europeans, if you're planning
a trip to Europe why not try to come around then?

Beirne: some details on "how to receive/send e-mail for the layman would be
useful". Actually come to think of it, that's pretty country-specific. Perhaps
you could produce a flashy-looking flyer with minimal info, and I could direct
people to companies that can connect them to the internet etc. I doubt many
people are going to rush out to buy modems and computers for this list, but
there may be many people (esp. students) who could join in if only they knew
that we existed.

I hope to write an article for "On One Wheel", the newsletter of the Unicycling
Society of America on this topic. I'll make it available to the list and we can
see about further distibution. One feature I will include is how to get the list
from other networks such as CompuServe and FidoNet.
