What is the advantage and or purpose of drilled rims?

A little, but because they are wider they are the same strength if not stronger.

well it does make them weaker, but people like the weight saved...

then again everyone seems to agree the koxx1 street rim is awesome... no holes and 47mm wide....

Yes, and no.

Take the new KH rims for example. Kris had the rims drilled the rims, but also widened them to make them stronger, even though he was taking chunks of metal out.

So if you do it right, they will stay strong.
