Finally worked it out, it's the decption of the question rather than any compicated maths that makes it tricky.

Yeah they lie!
Each man paied $8.33333333333- not $9

No that's not it, each man pays $10 then recieves $1 back, so pays $9 dollars. The question forces you to draw a false conclusion, which is what makes it confusing.

Of course, the mystery still remains. Why did the member of staff on duty overcharge the men $5 in the first place? If he did his job properly we wouldn't have any of this mess.

Besides, the narrator says "this is one of the most amazing things you'll ever see", yet nothing special happens in the pictures to the soundtrack. He claims "it's real", yet I highly suspect it's a made up story and it didn't really happen.I just took a few minutes to figure out how they word it to trick you into thinking there is....so when the narrator says there's "no trick and no catch", he's telling a blatant lie as well.

Yes but he would also have been out the $2 he pocketed during the ensuing confusion.

And yes, i think the 'no trick no catch' line is a lie, the phrasing of the question is designed to trick you in to assuming something which is not true.
