A valid point, but only if you use language in exactly that way. What if "racist" or "racism" are used as metaphors for all forms of irrational prejudice? Is a Dyson a type of Hoover? Do you go into a bar and ask for Coke but get Pepsi? It happens over here.

And what is race? Sometimes, we only mean colour. But the Bantus and the Hutus are black and treat each other as diferent races. Under English/European law, the Irish travellers are recognised as a separate race from the Irish, or, indeed, from other travellers - yet travelling is a lifestyle.

Well Im not going to jump on the bandwagon. While there are races of people I have become more fond of than others I still hold out for the exception to the rule or stereotype. Whats kind of ironic though is the fact that I am white and a vast majority of the people I despise are white.

So I guess through my experience I've become predjudice. For me its a defense mechanism. I miss out on alot of good things people have to share with the world but at the same time Im grateful that I don't have to put up with the bad things. I suppose im limiting my exposure.

The english language pisses me off immensely period. Its so incredibly confusing and seems to defy logic alot. The "USA" has adopted its own version of the language and spanish is our second language followed by french. I personally don't care if people can't speak english I don't blame them its hard to learn and it constantly evolves. In fact I think having english as your first language puts you at a significant disadvantage for learning other languages because its structure is so different. So I don't mind communicating by using hand gestures its kind of like charades and its pretty fun. Body language speaks alot more than words.

Now as far as people being born to like the other sex I really don't know. I do know that some people just have that disposition. I personally find it flattering when gay men are attracted to me, it means Im good looking and dress well. Its just like having a girl thinking you're good looking or have an attractive personality. I haven't ever been agressively prospected by a gay man like straight men do to women. In fact when Im around straight men that are being pretty agressive I choose not to be around them because its kind of embarassing and I don't want to cosign it.

Counseling can help if you want it to. When I was alot younger I had to go see a counselor and I thought it was the most stupid waste of my time. It wasn't until recently that I realized how much one could help me now. Since Ive moved around alot I can't really keep in touch with alot of my old friends and theres alot that I would like to talk about that really isn't friendly conversation. There are things about life that genuinely bother me a great deal and no one wants to listen to you whine, thats why you pay a counselor to do it. They can help you find solutions to your problems or allow you to vent your frustrations.

I think pharmacists and doctors have good intentions, but alot of times it seems like theyre more interested in their own material wealth than they are with helping those of us that rely on them. I don't know where the helpful/self threshold lies but I think they could spend a little more time understanding that we are people and not just a paycheck. Why do so many of them drive porsches?

The US has alot of problems, and you're right the entire 2 continents of America are in alot of trouble constantly. We can't agree on whats right and wrong and this duality is causing alot of apathy. So it leaves the rest of us sitting in limbo twiddling our thumbs like zombies watching television.

I think there's some truth to the "everyone's a little bit racist." It's something we need to learn to recognize before we say or do the wrong things. If you don't grow up around various races, or cultures, or socio-economic groups, you tend to have lots of misunderstandings about them.

But I hope you realize that Avenue Q, the play that giant quote was from, is satire. It was a great show. We saw it a couple years ago on Broadway. For those not familiar with it, it basically takes the Sesame Street model and uses it for a story about people with various adult problems. It also covers being gay, being into internet porn, being poor, unemployed, stereotyped, etc.

But is he a racist for thinking jokes based off racial stereotypes are funny? I don't think so. It's the same as woman jokes, engineering jokes, blond jokes, or Aggie jokes.

I'd be willing to bet that everyone stereotypes based on first impression. Doing it based on race is a bad judgment, though. Regarding the "everyone's a little bit racist" statement, I believe it's absolutely true that nearly everybody experiences feelings of prejudice with regards to many things including race.

The unfortunate part of about this, is that people cannot discuss these feelings without fear of being seen as a racist, which I see as something which actually fuels racism.

Oh I know that Avenue Q is just satire, but I also agree that 'everyones a little bit racist' is basically true...we all do make judgments based solely on appearance. I don't know if it's natural, or if it's because our parents do it so we grow up with it or whatever. But, like the song says, HUGE judgments like saying someone is stupid because they're black or lazy because they're American is something we can easily overcome. Sometimes it's true because of the place this person grew up, but it's easy to tell that a person's skin color is not directly related to intelligence or motivation. I donno where I'm going with this I guess I'm just rambling now...but one more thing I'd like to say, is, Idaho is very much populated with racists, but Moscow specifically is relatively liberal so I would have to say I'm not particularly racist...or prejudice against any specific minority. It scares me a lot to think there are loads of people who believes in this "white power" ideology.
