Why isn't unicycling an X-games sport?! That would be awesome... imagine how many more people would be riding if they saw Xav or Dan Heaton in the X-games!

Two good points... probably should have searched that... and yeah, I agree, haha, I'm not that good and people compare me to Tony Hawk. It would definitely loose the uniqueness.

i'd vote mostly that lack of speed and the lack of anything huge. not that say some of the good street guys gapping 10 sets or grinding 15 or whatever isn't huge, but compared to the speed and huge-ness of bmx, or skateboarding, or inline, or hell, anything that *is* in the x-games, unicycling is small, slow, and unless you do it, boring to watch.

inline.
Accually, they took that out like 3 years ago... I was so mad, not enough people watched it apperently.

all those sports in the x games tend to become over populated with wannabes . Would you like that to happen to unicycling?

Who cares? As long as we don't become arrogant assholes like typical skaters, and start referring to newbies as 'posers' and 'wannabes', I'm good.

If that ever happens I'm protesting :D
Edit- how do new skates make it to the top now if they are just refered to as posers?

that wouldn't happen with unicycling.
pretty much anyone can get skateboarding down or skating or biking down in a day or so.
but unicycling takes WAY more commitment than those others wheeled sports.
so i dont think well ever have "posers" so to speak..

They aren't posers if they are acctually good.
And whoever said it above is right: Unicycling does not have enough big air to be as much as a spectator sport as the X games or anything even close.
I also think a small, small part of it is the associtation with those stupid clowns....

LOL!!
i don't want it to be in the X games, i think we would have UNI punks if it happened, i think of at least 90% of unicyclists as at least 1/2 respectable people, and I don't want that to go away.

Its not extreme or dangerous (well for the most part) or fast or popular and the tricks (as in crankflips) are impossible to see and its really hard to have any style
I think for street unicycling to become anything like bmx or skateboarding, everybody would have to use 24" wheels and be a lot smoother

OK...a day or so, huh? Yes...in a day or so you *may* be able to roll on a skateboard down a small hill. You will not be riding vert, or doing kickflips, or riding anywhere near a level that will have you taken seriously by your peers. Same with BMX...sure, most everyone can ride a bike...they learned when they were kids. Can they ride at a skatepark without cracking their skulls open? Can they link together flatland tricks so they look effortless? Prob. not. The reason I ride UNI is because the people are very open minded and supportive(and I could freemount on my first day because of my BMX flatland background...that doesn'y make UNI "easy" in my book)...bagging on other sports and dumbing them down just makes us all look lame. Yes, UNI is difficult...no it doesn't show well on TV where people want "extreme!!!"(same problem with BMX flatland-no 30ft jumps to wow the crowd-so they dropped it from the x-games)...but in my mind UNI is no less hardcore than skating or BMX. I skated and rode BMX my whole life, and I always had to listen to one group of friends put down the other so they could feel better about themselves...it gets old really quick. Lets not turn UNI into another US vs. THEM thing...please. Respect others for their abilities, and if they do not respect you in turn, that's their loss.

BS all those sports are fucking hard and take loads of comitment.
Most people quit skateboarding before learning to ollie. Once you learn to unicycle, which doesn't take that long, hopping is hella easy. Ollieing high takes commitment.
BMX is one of the hardest, especially flatland. Learning to manual on a bmx bike alone takes as long to learn to uni. Standing on the front pegs lifting the rest of the bike is way harder than BC wheeling. Bunny hops take huge commitment and lots of sore backs to get high.

Sure, why don't we ride unicycles that aren't fit for our riding style so we can look more like skateboarders? :)

Or maybe we could use 29ers for street. That would have even more smoother. I wanna see someone grind down a stair set on a 29er that would be awesome. But seriously I don't think we should change just so we can look more like skateboarders like forrest said.

Yes! But only if there was a serious federation represented in each country (http://www.uniconnews.com/episode8/) to guide the unicycling sport.

If you make them fit your riding style, you'll be able to go nice and fast and eventually clear bigger shit and look cooler doing it.* And that's basically what all these tricks are about, expressing oneself and looking cool/stylely/skilled/ect.
Riding a 24 isn't going to make you look more like a skateboarder... probably less. I'm not the one taking trick and stance names from skating.
*Well I'm not sure here, but it would be neat to try at least

I don't see reason for that. BMX riders use 20" wheels and skateboarders usually use 50-57 mm wheels. Fat 20" tyre is cooler than fat 24". I think that 16" could be nice, but there isn't many fat tyres for that.

Yeah, except BMX bikes and skateboards go fast. It's not about getting the wheelsize to be more like other sports, it's the speed. Comparing the wheelsize of a skateboard to a unicycle is retarded
I don't want unicycling to become BMX, I just said if you want to be just like the other 100 sports that involve jumping over stairs doing tricks, then learning to do it on a 24 inch wheel might help in the end.

I can't see unicycling ever becoming like the other sports, just because of the lack of speed. BC however is a different matter, I can see a time where BC riders ride in skate parks like BMXers etc. and pump the big ramps.

or not, once you start hitting about 8 feet you have major problems w/ the rollout on the 24, but on a 20 it is much less problematic.

I think unicycling is too small for the x-games. I think it is no less extreme or dangerous than BMX or skateboarding, but it just doesn't look good to the untrained eye for the most part. Also I think people like watching sports that they play. There are very few unicylist as compared to skateboarders/BMXers, so not many people would want to watch it.
It would be cool to see Dan Heaton and Shaun Johanneson and Xavier Collos on TV riding in a street competition, but I honestly don't think it will ever happen. It might ruin unicycling as a sport too if it was on tv, but I don't think enough people would commit enough time to learning to make "posers." I like unicycling as a small sport, it's something different. If it was big like skateboarding, it would be everyday run-of-the-mill to see someone riding down the street on a unicycle, and I think that would kinda suck.
Edit: Wow, I think that was the longest post I've ever made...

( only read the first page)
I didn't see this once, maybe it was mentions. NO ONE is that accurate enough. If the skate area was changed up a bit. Hell yeah I bet anyone being perfect with any trick they try (a good amount of flips spins and twist) They could get anyone into the action why not? Roll pop some high manny, 3 or 5 off, fakie flip. All being smooth and perfect. I don't bet that if a run was as perfect as those bmxers get it, unicycling could be in the X-games, it would be alot better than i bet a lot people would guess. The skill is no where near consistent enough though. As well as the place would have to be changed around. Before I go out to FLUCK I will be practicing consistency not more big stuff, just all consistence. I want only one or two falls in the run I try.

What a useful bump.
For the record, I love clowns and do as much as I can to perpetuate the clown/unicycle stereotype. In fact, I clowned while juggling fire on a unicycle just tonight in front of a crowd people. Then I jumped over people and did pedal grabs while wearing a cape and mask. Oops. :)
