Can anyone else do one? My best time is about 40 seconds

At least two people can get half that on here.
I'm pretty sure another one used to be able to get half that too.
I'm not a speed cuber, but I used to be able to solve one. I can get all except for the last layer corners and edges now though. It takes me a couple minutes though. I should get back into at least solving it, it just sits on my desk, I took most of the stickers off and painted it myself though!

One of the teachers at my school can do one in about the same time I can so I took mine today so we could have a race. I won at about 1 min 20 seconds.

usualy I can solve it in just over a minute, but last year in science I solved one in 49 seconds. the closest I've been to that since then was 53 seconds

yep, my best time is 32.43 seconds. my brothers is around 20 seconds. And I've solved a 2x2x2 in around 15 seconds, and a 4x4x4 in like...5-6 minutes. I've yet to solve the 12 sided rubiks or the 5x5x5.
Oh yeah, my brother collects rubiks cubes :D

I have a 5x5x5, its very hard. Ive only done it once and it took me 2 days. I have to practice it up so I can do it in a few minutes

james potter can do one in something like 13 seconds.
For years i've been torn between keeping going trying to solve it myself, or just looking up and learning a solution, which way did people on here figure it out?

OMG I love cubing, my best is only 41 seconds though with the layer method. I have got it like 3 times and got in 40's many many times. I was learning the Fridrich method but took a break and am learning to blindfold solve it, just started that though. Michael(james_potter's) best is like 16 I believe, he is really good at them.

I saw this thing on tv the other day about the rubix cube world championships (I think). Anyway some guy broke the world record solving one in 11.something seconds. There is also the one handed event and a blind folded event which would be so so hard.

My best time ever is 14.53 seconds...at my peak I averaged 18 seconds, but these days it's closer to 21 seconds.

I used to be second fastest in the world one handed (: My average was 38 seconds and my best was 32 seconds.
Kelly Hickman can solve one, and I'm teaching him over MSN to solve one blindfolded.

I get pissed off, and either throw them at something, or peel off the colored stickers and put them where they go. Then I tell people who don't know how dumb I am that I finished it.

I figured out how to solve one on my own, then I looked up how to do speed cubing, but I never progressed after figuring out the method. I'd figured that solving it on my own was enough of an accomplishement for me in terms of rubik's cubes.

+1
I've been trying to solve it for 6 months now. I can get halfway through it but don't know where to go from there. I'm thinking of reading a tutorial, but that would be kind of like giving up.
Has anyone here figured out the cube by themselves?
Edit: Blegas78 has. How long did it take you?

That's hard to say, because the first one I ever solved was a 4x4, and from the time I got it to the time I figured out how to solve it was about 3 months, so I would say maybe 2.5 months for a 3x3?

Hmm, how many hours a day/week during that time?
I spend about 3 hours a month on it, maybe that's why I'm progressing so slowly.

haha, yeah, that's probably why. I think I spent maybe 2-3 hours per week trying to get it during that time.

Has anyone here figured out the cube by themselves?
I learned to solve the Rubik's Cube on my own without the aid of a book or help guide. That was back in the 80's when the cube was the new thing. My method was slow and inefficient, but it was mine. I never fully figured out how to solve the corners from every situation. The corners required some luck for me to solve. I still remember I was sitting on the organ bench at home after school when I solved it the first time.
Then I got the solution method published by Ideal and learned that method. It goes top layer, corners, bottom layer, then middle layer. Not a fast solution either, but much more efficient than the clumsy method I came up with.
Then I learned how to do the 4x4.
I still remember how to solve the 3x3. I cannot solve the 4x4 now. Forgot the moves.
After that I stopped playing with the cubes. I never learned a speed solving method. Things are too easy now with the internet giving away so many different speed solving methods. We didn't have that when I was playing with the cubes.

I have one of those. :) Its solved the same way, but just kinda hard to recognize and get use to.

I took most of the stickers off and painted it myself though!
How'd you do that?
I wanna do the same! What kind of paint did you use? Some of my stickers are coming off and it's becoming unsolvable.

Painting it works, but what works better in my opinion is to buy replacement stickers from http://cubesmith.com
The textured tiles are my very favorite, they work wonderfully (:
Great site! I think I'll order some of those tiles.
Thank you.

I was really into speedcubing for a while a couple of months ago. My fastest time was around 35 seconds though :( I've tried to learn the Fridrich method, but I'm having a tough time memorizing the Last Layer algorithms. I've solved a 4x4 many times, and am working on the 5x5 now. I've also bought some of the cubesmith tiles, they are amazing! I've tried painting my cubes, but they always seem to have problems. I would recommend tiles.
By the way, I'm new here, and have just barely become interested in unicycling! I'll try to post on here a lot, so look out for me.

I can only do the top and 2 rows but last night i fluked a solution except two of the corners are incorrectly orientated (in the right place but not the correct rotation). I'm not going to be able to continue for months now because the thought of scrambling this masterpiece is to much to bear.

When people say it takes them 40seconds or whatever, is that how long it takes to solve from a special position or do you just mess it up randomly before you begin?
I completed a cube with the help of a book writen by a 10year old cubemaster.

i memorized the layers method out of the book using my somewhat photographic memory and i would make words out of the algorithms to remember help them, it only took like three days but i did it like a year after getting my cube
my best time is like 2:30 recorded, maybe less before i started recording them

I've been practicing with my 5x5x5 cube and I can usually do it in about 20 minutes. I did it in science class today in about 12 minutes.
I would probly be able to go a lot faster if it wasn't so stiff and hard to move
I ordered some stickers for my cube a few weeks ago, but they are still in the mail.
