There is no doubt about that.

A year or two ago I read an article in USA Today about teens discovering classic rock gems like Queen and filling up their MP3 players with old music. Part of that was because new music just sucks so much. The other part is because Queen is just so good.

The first album I ever bought was Queen's News of the World.

+1

I can barely stand to listen to the radio, because, except for about 1 or 2 classic rock stations, it's like aural rape.

The only music that is bareable today is some of the softer bands like john mayer (best example i can think of at 11pm) who aren't screaming their heads off into the microphone and cussing every other word... the music that we consider 'oldies' are defiently better because they portrayed their point through the music, and not necessarily by the use of profanity.

Queen is one of my favourite bands ever. They are great!

I also prefer "oldies" to modern stuff.

New music sucks. I used to listen to Good Ol' Fashioned Loverboy on loop. Like for 12 hours a day while working on neverending homework.

 John Mayer?! There is plenty of respectable music today. I agree completely that what is considered the "modern" music of today is garbage. I agree from time to time that a "rap" song can carry a catchy tune. Very few rap songs demonstrate any aspect of musical talent though. I have no respect for any rap artist really. But there are tons of contemporary artists and underground artists that demonstrate a great deal of talent in their music...and thats what makes good music - talent. I'm only 18, so I guess no one can REALLY respect my opinion because i'm thought of as today's rebellious youth. But, who hasn't blasted Bohemian Rhapsody late at night with the windows down with a group of friends to sing backup.

Oh please. You're only thought of like that if you let yourself be thought of like that. Just don't act like a rebellious youth, and you won't be treated like one.

Wouldn't that be like rebelling against the rebellious youth?

Me too...the college radio here is sometimes good, they play old music or sometimes Indie which is usually pretty decent. But for the most part, the music has never been as good since the 70's or so.

I feel the need to point out that the oldies you all refer to where the ones that stood the test of time, the dross being lost to the ages. I daresay in 30 years time some people will remember maybe 1 percent of current bands as oldies and forgetting all the crap will claim this was a fine musical age.

Having said that yes i like Queen, haven't listened to them in so long but i did alot as a child on 12", maybe a revival is in call.

Really....? You could fit all of their "good" songs onto one CD.

Music Today Sucks, and hasn't been good since the 70's or 80's with the exception of a few songs....

Queen is more than the music on its own. It's about pomp, showmanship, doing songs their way, having unique songs and style, and just being Queen.

On the KZOK classic rock top 1000 songs list (http://kzok.com/pages/166072.php), Queen made the list only 11 times and didn't crack the top 10. There are better songs than Queen songs, but I always manage to enjoy the time whenever I put on a Queen album. Good stuff even if it's not the undeniable best.

Another Queen fan here. Both my kids, as they became teenagers, swiped my Queen CDs, proving that they are a most classic band. Maybe I'll get the CDs back now that the music can be transfered to their mp3 players.

I hate threads full of strong opinion. And people for that matter.

I substitute your opinion and use mine, Merzbow, best music ever.

Ehh... Queen is pretty good, but there have been many better bands. U2, Billy Joel, Jethro Tull.
