Bush 'Assassination' Film Makes Waves Across the Pond

LONDON, Sept. 1 -- Nearly every British newspaper on Friday carried photos of the "assassination" of President Bush -- or, rather, the eerily realistic depiction of it from a new documentary-style television film that is causing an uproar in Britain.
The film, "Death of a President," has been alternatively derided as a tasteless publicity grab and defended as a serious look at a plausible event that could have dramatic ramifications for the world.
(quoting)...that is causing an uproar in Britain.
"Uproar" is a tad strong, I feel. The BBC website has a grand total of two articles on the subject, one about the film and one about the US republican party whinging about it.
Documentary-style dramas are quite popular here, covering subjects from disease outbreak to war and major terrorist incidents; I don't see why the most powerful man in the word should be exempt from such "what if?" scenarios. Perhaps they should have used a generic lookalike president rather than explicitly saying it refers to Bush, but the difference would be negligible anyway.

To answer the question: I don't (want to see the assassination...). But it's not a problem, just warn me a few days before it happens so that I can wrap my head with a towel :D
More seriously I don't want such a thing to happen:
-first because I don't wich anybody's death
-second because that would make him a martyr
...though I would be so happy if someone "entarted" him (in french, "entarter" means to slam a cream pie in the face. see an exemple here (http://www.desvideos.com/video-14.php) with bill gates... delightfull!:D )

I'm sure it contains a lengthy segment on the application of the 25th Amendment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/25th_Amendment).
How does Cheney do? He's had practice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_transfer_of_power).

Don't be upset. Your :D smilies were misplaced. That's OK :)
Take it from me, the one who wrote the thread on correct use of smilies here.

What do you think the response would be if they used a Clinton footage? Bill or Hillary?

I count on that, so I try to bring you the news on Unicyclist.Com--your only source.
Did anyone see that Spooks episode with the Princess Diana thing? This is kind of like that.

Great, with that thread title now I have to worry about the FBI watching this forum now.
Billy, your phones just got tapped. Congratulations.
You realize with the patriot act they can detain you indefinately and never file charges or notify anyone of where you are or even admit that they've taken you, right? If I never hear from you again I'll assume that's what happened.

How many here watched the Ceausescu execution video on Christmas Day, 1989? Why would anyone watch such a thing. What morbid curiosity is satisfied by such an act? Why public? Why televised? Nick was no saint, that goes without saying.

I believe Bush is fairly evil man, but I sure don't wish to see him killed. I was taught to love my enemies, because they help me to become stronger. I was also taught to forgive all people for everything they've done, as I am a wrong-doer, and I have no authority to judge another man.

At this point in time, assassination would be useless. It would have perhaps been helpful 7 years ago, but now change is on its way :p

Yeah, you can't help but feel sorry for the guy. He's probably more hated than Hussein nowadays.

Haha what if the shoes killed him. :DI heard that the Secret Service blew up the shoes, to make sure there wasn't anything dangerous in them, such as explosives or maybe poison. I also heard that all the secret service people that were there at the time were fired, since there was no noticeable Secret Service action during the entire incident.
My favorite thing about the incident were the skills demonstrated by the three men involved. Bush was very quick and ducked out of the way both times. The guy next to him accurately deflected the second shoe. The guy throwing the shoes seemed to get both of them fairly dead-on at his head!

I noted that although he missed Bush he nailed the U.S. Flag pretty good with the second shoe. I imagine that has some symbolic value that can be enjoyed despite the fact that neither shoe hit Bush.

A few years ago there was an assassination attempt on Margaret Thatcher. Under English law, the perpetrators were found guilty of queue jumping - th emost serious crime of all.

Yeah, well I heard the whole incident was just a PR stunt cooked up by the White House to prove Dubya isn't drinking on the job. After all, a drunken Bush couldn't have dodged those shoes quite so well... and there have been reports of The Shrub hitting the bottle quite heavily (http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_4093.shtml).

I just watched the first half hour or so of the movie on Google Video. I would say it isn't badly done, but it does lower your respect for Americans seeing the angry protesters. (I know, it's not real). I think the protesters attitude shows where America is going though, i.e, lack of respect, flouting authority, etc.

What. You don't like true patriots?
I saw this movie a while ago. It was pretty well done, but I didn't find it to be amazing.

The execution was not recorded, only the aftermath was.
edit: I guess you never say that they showed the actual execution, just that it was the "Ceauescu execution video." Sorry to jump to conclusions and try to call you out on a petty typo. I should have known better.
