hey
i finally got my sister to pick up my late birthday present, it's my very first unicycle! i've wanted one for ages but never been able to try, sister went to a circus shop i told her about and she ordered me a 20" Bell Caroll. i think the seat needs to go up a bit, but tomoro i'm going to test it out in somewhere bigger than the kitchen, and see how it goes.
a little bit about me - i'm 21, training to be a vet nurse (fingers crossed), therefore obviously an animal lover, have a kitty and 3 ratties, also ride a lowrider bike with no brakes, and a motorscooter (no licence yet tho). into digital photography, local music, body modification, and veganism/vegetarianism. basically a hippy in disguise.
i don't know anyone else in my city who rides a unicycle, but there probably are some people in small circus groups around the place. i'm just excited about going down to the shops on it, and being able to fit it on trains easier.
wish me luck!

Hey, good luck and welcome to the forum!
What's body modification? Like replacing your arm with an electronic one?
http://iarm.de./movie_high.html
Personally, I always wanted steel nails to replace screwdrivers. And lasers for eyes.
And welcome to the forums!

you'd be surprised how many people unicycle that aren't involved in any circus-type group.
good luck!

yeah, they got out a power drill in the piercing studio and drilled thru my skull!!!
not.
i think i get that question at least once a day. sigh! no it just sits under the skin.
by body modification i mean - 12 piercings, 3 tattoos, 1 scarification, 4 brands, so far. i have plans for implants, tongue split, and plenty more ink. my body is my canvas and i'll do whatever i want with it. i've also done 2 flesh pulls, and plan for my first suspension in the coming weeks. it's not at all a 'phase' for me, it's a big part of my life.
anyone with narrowminded questions like "how will you get a job" or "what will you think when you're 80", please feel free to jump off a cliff :D

now i'm going to try this unicycle thing again, in the daylight, with shoes on. if i can find a pump, cos the wheel is super flat :(

what is scarifacation? is it like a cut that is shaped like somthing that you help to scar so it stays longer? How does a brand feel? that seems very painfull! Can you get them in different colors? or is it a brownish color?

my first flesh pull, on australia day this year.

this is from my second flesh pull which was at my 21st birthday party, it was a zombie cocktail party, so all the blood is fake blood. the ropes (rainbow shoelaces!) are around a pole that holds up the patio in the backyard. i'm on the right and my friend tara is on the left. you lean forward so you're standing on an angle and let your weight do the work.

healed skin removal scarification. cut with a scalpel and then sections of skin removed. done by the AWESOME wayde dunn from queensland.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~iph/janey/aurynscar_healed.jpg
healed a few months later. now it's faded to a pale pink, soon it will be white. you could put ash or ink in it i guess, but i just wanted it as a scar. it's not as detailed as a tattoo, but if i wanted it detailed i'd get a tattoo, simple as that.
they all hurt. but that's just a part of it. the adrenalin rush from a pull is amaaaaazing.

What's the ripping point of skin? Cause you's think it'd rip by one of those flesh pulls.

how do you go about getting a brand? and how does burned flesh smell?
In scarafacation, do you do anything special to keep the cut clean or improve the ammount of time that you have your scar? it seems like it would go away after a year or so...

ripping point of skin - no idea, never seen it or heard of it happening with suspensions or flesh pulls. i guess if you put the hooks in too shallow, and there wasn't enough hooks to hold the person's weight, it could happen. but skin is pretty damn stretchy, and really really strong. more often the hooks will bend because they're not strong enough for the weight. but that rarely happens too. a LOT of preparation goes into this!
brand - ok the ones i have are very home made! we heated cookie cutters over a gas stove and then held them on the skin. do not do that at home! infections, etc etc etc. but we were all fine. if you go get one done at a studio, they'll either use a cautery pen, or they'll do a strike brand, which is with a heated piece of metal held onto the skin. google to see how cautery pens work, i'm not too sure.
it smells like... burning, i guess. not like any kind of meat, but then we didn't burn right into muscles, just the skin. it's very noisy tho - lots of sizzle and pop.
scarification - i washed it as soon as i got home, ow ow ow ow ow. then i covered it in a layer of vaseline, and wrapped it tightly in gladwrap and taped it to my leg. i washed and re-vaselined and wrapped it 3 times a day. it's best to do that for 2 weeks, but after 10 days i was so sick of it, and also the white blood cells or 'lymph' ooze, as it's trying to heal, and you get this lovely pale pale yellow liquid running down from the site. stained numerous socks of mine. then it scabbed up and eventually healed. it's best to skip the scab process, but it depends how long you're willing to keep the vas and wrap on.
you can also irritate it to keep it open, by doing things like scrubbing at it will steel wool or a strong brush, putting lemon juice on it... you can think up a few more. you just have to be careful not to break anymore skin, then you'll alter the design, and not to give yourself an infection. it was the most awkward and painful of my mods to heal, the most painful to endure, and unfortunately one of the shortest lasting. but i love it! awesome experience.
i've gone up and down the hallway and in the carport, and discovered a few things about my unicycle
- the tyre seems to be pushed down heaps when i sit on the seat. one it even popped off the rim and i had to jimmy it back on. does this mean the tyre is dodgy, or it is just because it's all my weight on one wheel?
- the 'dead spot' or having one feet at '6 oclock' and one at '12 oclock' really sucks! i wish i could practice on a slight slope so i'd get some momentum. i've been giving myself a shove off the walls to get started and just trying not to stop.
- my seat keeps twisting around, and it is not that comfortable. i'm sure guys complain about it a lot more, but my bits are all mashed.

that looks very very painful. what does that look like afterwards?
small dot scars where the hooks go in and out, and you have to 'burp' them - get all the air bubbles out from under your skin. otherwise you'll be all crackly, cos they make funny sounds when u touch them.
it is painful initially but once adrenalin kicks in it's amazing, so i've been told.

Hold on, she's still learning to ride.
When she posts that she's gone the width of the parking lot we can whip out the OMOUOLOT.
But welcome to the forums janey_moo.
I've gone off piercings in recent years but am clocking up the tattoo (http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/?g2_itemId=108974)s.
I'm now trying to consolidate my years of 'stamp collecting' and trying to tie it all together.
It's going to be a while.
Goody.
i used to have that same spot pierced
I had is as well and took it out for a voice-test on a large station.
Didn't get the gig.

yeah, when i figure out how to get on and off it and further than a metre without holding onto walls, i'll make a big announcement in the sky with a tickertape parade or something.

Ta.
He's the (mostly) autobiographical main character in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
More about him and Hunter S Thompson he (http://www.gonzo.org/)re and he (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_S._Thompson)re.
I'm a fan. More of his political writing than his fiction.
There's a thread about him her (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_S._Thompson)e.
