Another gallery thread. *sigh*.

Why is there a problem with the gallery server being full? Is that too many people veiwing it at once? It always says stuff like the server is too full, then it has a number, like (8.42)

Is there something wrong with it?

I think that means there is too much traffic on the server, be in uploading or simply viewing. I'm assuming the number in the parenthesis corresponds to a level of use, the higher the number the more the site is being used, the less likely of a chance that you can use the gallery. If the number gets below 5, you can upload things, and wont see the error message.

Of course, this could all be misleading information, as these are only educated guesses.

So the way to get on a server that has too much load is to continually hit refresh (which adds more load) till you eventually get on? The logic there makes my head implode.

I've seen several complaints about weird "no permission" and other strange errors, along with the grand slowdowns that occur from time to time.

Additionally, I've also noticed that several new pictures (such as this one (http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/?g2_itemId=251705)) seem to have broken thumbnails, and clicking a picture to see it doesn't work either.

Because of these regular breakdowns I've already "outsourced" my gallery pictures to my own website (http://www.gkmac.co.uk/photos/uni/). That ADSL server under my telephone does okay for pictures, but I'm not sure how to handle videos, since I shudder at the thought of using strange goggles and uchewb services.

The problem was that there was no more disk space on the drive. Deleting some of the cache provided a temporary fix, and there is one more temporary fix I'll do, but ultimately, I'll need to get a bigger hard drive for the gallery.

There is now 8 GB free on the gallery hard disk, so this should solve the one problem. The other problem of the gallery taking up too much cpu is still going to be there and the gallery will still get disabled until the server load average is below 5. This prevents the gallery from making the entire server become unusable.
