First post here, just saying HI!! I'm stepping into a new world of cycling. I just ordered my first unicycle. I can't wait to try it out. It should be here by next weekend. I mostly ride mtb and road bikes. I've done bmx, cross, trials...... anything that involved bikes I have to try. I've wrenched in bikeshops and have played around on uni's before but nothing more than sitting on it while holding a wall or a hand rail.
I ordered the Torker Unistar LX 20". I hope this was a good choice. I figured I'd go with the 20" so I could pass it down to my son later on.
I have a pretty good collection of bicycles now.
1 mtb
1 singlespeed mtb
1 full suspension mtb
1 26" trials
1 road bike
1 singlespeed road
I hope to add few unicycles to the list in the next few years and really try out Municycling.
Thanks for all the help. This is a great site and I've already learned alot from just lurking around.

Welcome. Sounds like you did your home work and ordered a good starter uni. From the LX you'll want a few more. It will be interesting to see your collection of unicyles in a year or two. Best of luck!

Welcome!
yes, the LX is a great uni to learn on.
eventually, though, you're going to want a better one, especially if you're going into muni.

My wife said the same thing.......... but it didn't sound as a positive thing. I've already picked out my muni ride. I told the wife "look at the bright side..... unicycle don't cost as much as bicycles....... they only have one wheel" she didn't find it as funny as I did.................. oh well
Thanks for all the encouragment I'll try and keep you posted on the progress.
:D :D I'm so excited I'm about to pee myself.............

Good luck. Unicycling is great fun, but just remember that it will cut into your gambling in the dark time.

Make sure, when your putting anything on, like the wheel into the frame, and the pedals into the cranks, the r is on the right side, and the l is on the left side.
The cranks will have a R or an L on them to tell which way is left and right, and the frame should be obvious to point out which way is the front, Torkers usually have a sticker on it saying 'front', and the pedals will have a R and L which go in the R and L cranks.

For gild, since he isn't here right now:
"One more of us, one less of them."
Welcome to the community! If you need any help getting started on learning, check out the link in my signature; it's a public journal I kept detailing my first 35 days of learning to ride and details learning to get on and ride with supports, ride without supports, turn, drop off small heights, freemount, and a bit of idling.
Good luck to you!

Assemibling the uni won't be a problem. I have about 5 years experience as a bike mechanic. It's scheuled to be delivered today from UDC. It's cool they're only a one day delivery from me.
For gild, since he isn't here right now:
"One more of us, one less of them."
I was holding back till he learnt how to ride...
Welcome to the forum Stagger.
An interesting nick.
Is that from a song somewhere?

Indeed. However, my son's torker came with too many L stickers some of them on the wrong side. The Front label was on the back of the frame, too, on the side with the notch to allow tightening for seat clamping.
For the pedals, the LEFT pedal usually has some kind of knurling above the theads where the right one does not.
Welcome and have fun!!

Well it's been around a week since I got the uni. It's going pretty good. The first day I was riding out of the garage and into the drive way. Now I'm outa the garage into the drive making the lefthand turn and riding to the street. I'm getting close to freemounting too..... 1 out of 10. I don't get to practice as much as I'd like. 10 minutes here 5 minutes there, all between work, kids, wife (all that adult crap) so maybe a couple of hours total.

Check out Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' "Murder Ballads"
Nice progress.
And another person telling me to check out 'Murder Ballads'?!?
I'm going to have to give in and listen to that blasted album sometime.

Well, that might explain why you didn't react to my gambling in the dark reference? Have you checked out any of the traditional versions of Stagger Lee?
I was sooo far off-targ (http://lyrics.duble.com/lyrics/K/kris-kristofferson-lyrics/kris-kristofferson-the-law-is-for-protection-of-the-people-lyrics.htm)et...
Billy Dalton staggered on the sidewalk
Someone said he stumbled and he fell
Six squad cars came screaming to the rescue
Hauled old Billy Dalton off to jail
'Cause the law is for protection of the people
Rules are rules and any fool can see
We don't need no drunks like Billy Dalton
Scarin' decent folks like you and me, no siree
Charlie Watson wandered like a stranger
Showing he had no means of support
Police man took one look at his pants cuffs
Hustled Charlie Watson off to court.
'Cause the law is for protection of the people
Rules are rules and any fool can see
We don't need no bums like Charlie Watson
Scarin' decent folks like you and me, no siree.
