Most of it is fake, but injuries do occur in the shows, they are still very entertaining to watch.
The main thing i remember about unicycling is, when Kris Holm, i think that was his name, He was my favorite unicycler, and at the time, when i was pretty young, was one of my idols, but he was riding down the volcano, he fell and injured his thing. Good luck faking that one...
And are any unicyclists as smug as magicians and wrestlers?

Unicycling is just as fake as magicians and wrestlers because all the moves are very practiced.

There's no such thing as 'real', everything is socially constructed.

How could it be fake?. i am a 100% real unicyclist.
I think I see the problem... amongst other circles such as skating and BMX riding people say "keep it real!" just to remind everyone to make sure it stays real. I can't remember anyone saying that while on a unicycle, and I don't think I'm the only one. We have been neglecting our responsibilities, and unicycling has become unreal as a result.

lololol, After reading how you edited my words, it made me laugh so frickin hard!
Anyways, unicycling is completely fake, its done with cables and pulleys, I pity the fool that think they can really ride on one wheel!

But I saw a parrot ride a unicycle once. Was that fake? I think not.

I think it's somewhat fake as far as the videos go, only the best riding is selected. We don't see that the rider ate it 20 times before they got the shot. But it's the same thing as any other type of vieo.
I wouldn't say that what a magician does is fake, at least not the street performing type. It's all about slight of hand, showing a skill, and entertaining other people. The thing where they make the tank dissapear etc, that's fake.
Wrestling, as in WWE, yeah it's fake, and not nearly as cool as unicycling.
In my foot-on-the-pedal expiriences, unicycling is all real stuff. It's not about performing, it's about learning and pushing myself. Letting people see the challenge, and laugh at me when I fall as well as impressing the socks off them.

I was riding down the road the other day and got a little sloppy... someone almost caught a glimse of the harness I was wearing with the cable holding me up! I thought oh I better fix this so I turned down the lights and put the smoke machine on doubletime... I almost let the secret out... Sorry guys I'll try to be more vigilant next time so people won't find out the truth.

capes and cloaks are always fun to wear if your only planning to uni forward because if your cape/cloak is long enough it will get all dirty or caught in the tire

When I worked in the schools, I used to have fun explaining to people my idea of the difference between "circus" and "magic." Those words are a little too narrow to be completely accurate, but we're talking with elementary school kids here.
In circus, the vast majority of what you see is exactly what it looks like. My favorite examples are fire eating and sword swallowing. Not fake, though many people assume it is.
In magic, the vast majority of what you see is some form of deception. This is not to say there isn't a ton of skill in magic; of course there is. But most magic tricks are about fooling the audience, not displaying your raw skills.
Each is a valid form of entertainment, but that's one way of distinguishing them.
I knew a guy, T.J. Howell, who did a fire juggling act in his shows (he also unicycled). Often he would be asked, after the show, if the fire he was using was real. Having heard the same questions so many times, sometimes he would toss in random "junk" answers, like "Nope, it's fake." or "Yes but it's not hot." So sometimes the real stuff is fake too.
I don't know where the original reference came from, but it sure sounded like so-called professional wrestling. That form of entertainment, which is athletic but I wouldn't call a sport, is not trying to fool people, is it? When pressed, all fans of this entertainment will admit it's fake. So why watch? That's where the answers usually get really blurry.

Oh YEAH!! The guy is really eating FIRE. Sure. that's a LOT of calories to take in. Is it difficult to digest?
I think the President of the Unicycling Society should be interviewed on 20-20 about how FAKE unicyling is.
