I need help Making longer rides more comfortable

I just started riding about a year and a half ago and went on my first ride longer than a quarter mile I went two miles and came home with a terible chaffing problem and a sore butt would getting a more cushioned seat help with the longer rides in addition to a pair of bike shorts?

Check out air saddle seats, they are great, also if you do a search, there are a lot of threads with seats, instructions on how to make your own, and lots of other things that will help =p
