"America The Beautiful" into "Yesterday", David Grier solo guitar from "Live at The Linda". A wonderful album of instrumental guitar and stories, from one of the better flatpickers of all time.
His "Lone Soldier" is also quite amazing, but I think his best work is actually on Matt Flinner's "The View from Here" CD.

I lived with a woman for 24 years. A serious Dylan fan, despite everything, she brought me to his poetry. For this alone, it was worth the years, Try "Blood on the Tracks." Dylan has written six hundred songs. I saw him in Ottawa,in '93, where he sang the first five songs of a set and I did not recognize one tune. I saw him a few years later in Halifax and he was there, on top of his game.
It must be hard to have a forty-five year career, and try endlessly to reinvent your work. Van Gogh only had to paint "A Starry Night" once. Dylan completely reinvents his work with every concert. Genius.
Try any of the first six albums, try "Music from Big Pink" (The Band) and try all of Neil Young.
With best regards from the right coast of Canada where we never forget what it is like to mine coal ( try Rita McNeil's "Working Man: It makes me cry every time.)
Best from Nova Scotia Canada, where we clearly do not know enough to move on.

Their music is very similar to Cannibal Corpse, however their lyrical content is a parady and contains many references to weed. Quite funny.

"Butterflies" by Poi Dog Pondering.
These guys came out of nowhere and knocked me off my feet a few nights ago. I had heard of them of course, as they've been together for 20 years and I used to be in non-commercial radio, but I'd never given them a serious listen. On a chance passing through town of a dear friend at the head of their fan club (chance for us, but deliberate for her as she was following the band), we found ourselves dragged to a PDP show at a downtown club last Wednesday. I had semi-high expectations going in based on trust of my friend's taste. PDP blew past my expectations before the first tune was done and just kept going from there.
Their new album "7" is a piece of art to be reckoned with.

I'm in the process of ripping, scanning cover art, and listening to David Gilmour's About Face and self titled David Gimour. I also just finished a 22oz bottle of Hop Henge Imperial IPA by Deschutes Brewery. I hope the scans turn out to my high expectations. I've learned that value judgments after drinking more than a pint of high alcohol beer can be a bit iffy.
At the risk of making an additional value judgment, I'll say that David Gilmour is sounding good.

The artist's task is to extract from fashion whatever element it may contain of poetry within history, to distil the eternal from the transitory.

2008-06-01, 08:59 AM
Oh yeah, you've inspired me. It's time for some "Down By The River (Live)". If GILD is up, perhaps he'll join us. Roy's solo on that tune brings out all the sounds and range of the Telecaster. From 2:50 to just past 7:00 minutes, it's a wall-to-wall tour through the capabilities of the instrument, conducted by a man who knew it better than anyone. I believe that solo helped sell a lot of Teles...probably is still helping. And 5:00 to 5:16 simply transcends.
After Roy, I'm moving on to some Leftover Salmon: "When the levee breaks", from their Ask The Fish live CD.
I'm on air at the moment but fortunately brought my laptop along, so I have Some roy to entertain me while I'm playing Tiffany.

There is some brilliant bass playing, but then he channels his smooth jazz side and the composition gets all Kenny G. :( If he could only keep the fusion style going and avoid mixing in the smooth jazz this could be a good album. Pity to have that great bass playing wasted on moosh jazz.

You need to ease her in slowly. Start with the version of Time After Time by Miles Davis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNP9OuwCVJs). Once that's had a chance to sink in, segue to the same by Everything But The Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V0XOiHd74A). Then while you have the two of them, switch to EBTG doing "Alison" from their Acoustic album (might have to buy the album). Then finish things off with the original by Elvis. If you don't have the album, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvTtWrBS4ok) will have to do.
On second thought, as Willy Wonka would say: "Scratch that, reverse it." But doubtless you would figure that out, since when in doubt:
End with the Miles...

The Leaves recorded it in '65 and Hendrix in '67. It's unclear who the author is other than it was not anyone in The Leaves nor was it Hendrix. The song was certainly performed prior to '65 but I don't know if it was ever recorded. Although the song is about wholesale murder and is distasteful in that sense, it is still musically gripping in both the versions I have heard. Maybe Dave or Tom know.

Yes it is (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_The_Levee_Breaks), although it pre-dates both bands by quite a spell.
But now it's on to "Love Has No Pride", Bonnie Raitt w/ Freebo on the bass. It's all about the bass with me tonight. Thinkin' I needs me one.

Great stuff...especially the studio cut of "Be Careful of my heart", featuring Larry Klein on bass. Many artists have the "sophomore slump", but Tracy knocked her second album out of the park.
I was trying to find a youtube video of the above, but found this instead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx_Evuto6jY). There are probably better versions, but this is the one I'm listening to right now. Mr. Entertainment, a bit after the title was earned.
