The Dry Cleaner from Des Moines, Joni Mithcel from her Shadows and Light CD.

Mingus tune, here seriously beefed up by Michael Brecher on sax and Jaco Pastorius on Godly Bass. Jaco had a a lot of high moments, but this cut may have been one of his highest.

Joe Satriani Super Colossal (http://www.satriani.com/webcast/2006-03/) (click to listen)

He released an audio stream of the new album on the web.
It's nice to listen to his album for free cause I'd never actually buy it.
I can only handle so much Joe Satriani and an entire album is too much.

He needs to just let if flow like a symphony or overture rather than being constrained by the rigid metronome style drumming. Gahhh! That rigid drumming just drives me nuts after a few songs.

They sponsor small invite only concerts (you have to win tickets), record them, play them on the radio, and release a few of them on CD. They're live recordings. Way cool.

john, do you like postal service?
Yes, but I don't have any of their albums or any of their songs.
I need to check to see if they're on a label that puts out copy protected CDs. If they're on a clean label I need to put them on my buy list.

I don't buy any CDs from labels that put out copy protected CDs. I refuse to support labels that treat me like a criminal when I do the right thing and buy their album.

I saw him with John Prine around 1980, it was at that concert I learned it was his song. Steve was a master with the Guitar. It was almost impossible for him to complete a concert without breaking a guitar string. Of course, Steve also had a tendency to put on one man shows. Now for most singers this would mean an apology was in order wh ile the musician switched guitars, but not Steve. Steve would continue to sing in perfect rhythm while he reached into a pocket, pulled out a new string, replaced the string, retuned the guitar, and then pick up playing again, much to the amazement and en joyment of the crowd. John Prine claimed that Goodman did this on purpose just to embarrass other guitar players.
Priceless.

Did they ever bury some of his ashes under the homeplate?

It wasn't very large
There was just enough room to cram the drums
In the corner over by the Dodge
It was a fifty-four
With a mashed up door
And a cheesy little amp
With a sign on the front said
"Fender Champ"
And a second-hand guitar
It was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar
