I nominate this one (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=377793&postcount=199), where GILD opens up in a most heartfelt fashion to really give us a glimpse of his soul. It is not everyone that finds (and admits) their true love in JC. It was a tender and special moment.
I nominate THIS ONE. (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=351381&postcount=1)

Even though I'm not of Christian faith, this is a heartwarming story and very well written. Mike Fule and Jethro are my two favorite posters(Unfortunately Mike's writeups are in RSU). They are the only people who can make long posts that I'll read... sorry Foss and Childs but I dont read half your posts...

There can be no question (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=312771&highlight=individuals#post312771).

I nominate this post (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=407795&postcount=15) by Catboy. It's the first post I've seen from him in JC that's been honest. ;)

Beware the lurker...

first post in that thread... oh how i laughed

I'll nominate this (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=412510&postcount=34747) one to further publicise it.

I love it that eventually all JC threads become interconnected in some way (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=409715&postcount=875). Adding GILD to my nominations.
.

THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE POST. (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=409769&postcount=1323) Sorry, Kristine.

Here's a vote for gild because someday I hope everyone has the chance to be the recipient of that kind of warmth. :)

How do you vote on this thing? Where's the poll? I also like Catboy's choice of Jethro's post which is an outstanding story exposing one's own limitations without shame and recognizing them at the same time. Progress is made from points in time and realizations such as this one.

Good question. Who's in charge of this thing?

Polls only allow you to post 10 choices, and we had too many nominees, so that's an insurmountable problem.

I too vote for the one I nominated for Jethro, for the following reasons.

It's well written.
It makes you feel good.
Makes good use of JC.
Nice title.

Jethro's. As catboy said: It's well written and it maks you feel good.

I'm voting for Jethro, too.

That makes 6 for Jethro; 1 for Gild's loving sincerity, so far....

Happy New Year!!

BUMP
this thread died.
Is anyone going to tally the winner? Or is it a tie as harper suggested?
A poll would be useful.

6 for Jethro; Looks like the clear winner. Anyone else?

For crying in a bucket, I was busy taking the mickey out of Russian-bride-spammers and new age barbi-goths at the same time and all this during a tongue-in-cheek competition with Bruce (which I strongly suspect I've now lost).
Tom joined the mickey-taking party by nominating the post.
If one more person takes it seriously...

I'd like to withdraw that post from consideration (with Tom's permission) because Jethro's is way kewler.

Now go read this one (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=312771&highlight=individuals#post312771) again.

1 for Harper's "...And so we continue to ride with those that fall. The only difference is that we get back up again for now...."

And I'll motivate my vote for Harper's post by saying

It is an incredibly powerfull expression of a sentiment so simple yet so universal, it never fails to stop me in my tracks when I read it.
And then walk off into life with a much broader, slightly wiser smile.
Occasionally I wish that I'd written it. Mostly I'm just glad that someone did.

It totally deserves the recognition of best JC post of 2005.

Once more, my suggestion must be stricken from the count. My John Childs nomination was actually posted in 2003. If I'm not mistaken, this is a contest for the best post of 2005, is it not?

Yoopers,

If you want, start a thread for the best post of the 21st century!!

Everyone: Still 7 for Jethro;
2 for Gild's loving sincerity;
1 for Harper's "...And so we continue to ride with those that fall...."

It's the Harper one for me...I revise my vote, and not just because he owes me money. That's what I want read at my wake, among other things, before my surviving family and friends take a nice hot air balloon flight and send my ashes flying. And then of course the champagne...

The community will decide whether you can go back into the voting booth. Usually that is not allowed.

I see Harper has been taking lessons on winning elections from W.

Well, the polls have closed with jethro in the clear lead. Harper's and Dave Walter's also inspired a few votes.

Congratulations to all!!!
