Oh, I mean, awesome products. I would definitely consider getting one o' dems if they weren't all white. It's no my color (not "in my essence" as my friend would say).

Yeah, that's the downside to doing CafePress. You can only get colors they can do their prints on- there's always the rumor that they've worked out a way to do sublimation printing on black shirts. Their business is huge now, but it'll be monsterous huge when they can print on black.
On the upside, they do Crimmus cards and tree ornaments for those of us old enough to send cards and hang %$#@ on fake trees in the living room. Those don't have to be on black backgrounds.

I'm stupid.
I went back and checked my cafepress store (Thanks, by the way, Janice S in CA, and Mark W in Cambridgeshire) and the Black Shirts are a go. So if the spam's not too much for ya, subsonic, there's black Ts now. I added 'em a minute ago.

Hmmmm. I'm not too keen on that design that's on the black shirt. I would like it if this (http://www.cafepress.com/unicycles.14808860) came in black, though.

Yep, and Andrew was kind enough to use my cartoon of him for his avatar. Andrew's my hero, and I wanna be him if I grow up.
I've gotta upgrade to a premium cafepress site and pay 'em money if I want to have more than one black shirt on the site. I plan to do it, but I also have to change up the art so that it'll work on black. I've got another design ready to go, too, so I better get on the stick.
Got some cartoons due at the syndicate before I can get to it, though. Technically, I'm loafing right now.

Oh, and another thing. That is one fine wooden jail ceiling. I need to prevent my wife from learning that such a thing exists, or I'll have to get another home improvement loan.

Yeah, nice little jail accomodations, eh? Not cheap, either (that one probably cost upwards of 500,000 or something). Just remember that if you do decide to buy your own jail ceiling (or other type of ceiling), think "9Wood" and not "Rulon" or "Armstrong." ;) :D ;)

I'm in Memphis. I'm afraid to ask how much that'd add to the price...
"Yeah, we'll fly the guys in on thursday to install the Craftsman style wooden ceiling. We'll be at the airport at 4:15 a.m. Bring your credit card. What hotel have you booked us into?"

Anyone else have a request before I spruce up the cafepress/unicycles store?

I've got this one I did back in the summer...
Will it do, or should I spruce it up?

And if you're a unicycling friend of Donna's in Ontario... well, I have NO idea what you're getting for Christmas.

Yeah. You gotta keep clicking on 'enlarge image' or whatever until you get to a frame that displays just the art if you want to read it properly.
It's odd. I don't remember it being that small when I first put it on there. But they've done a big redesign at cafepress... maybe they changed something about their displays.
By the way, Tommy T! Thanks again for the hoodie MUC sweat! It's finally been washed enough to get some fluff to it. I'm wearing it on the trails again in the morning. No holes yet- I'll have to do some more wild unplanned dismounts again.

What is the quality of the prints on cafe press, I always thought that they look cheap and for that reason I have never been interested in getting anything printed through them.
Are the designs heat pressed transfers? or are they screen printed? My guess is heat transfers if so do people that have them find them to crack and have noticable edging after a few washes?
dogzilla
2005-12-05, 02:23 PM
They're heat transfers, but not the ones that were being sold when I worked Tshirts in college. They're some kind of sublimation print- meaning the ink turns to a gas under heat and bonds with the fibers in the garment. That's also what kept cafepress from doing black shirts til now- sublimation dyes are transparent. How they're doing black is beyond my guessing. There was a company just starting to do sublimation on black when I got a real job, but it required a special kind of shirt that was dyed differently somehow.
Anyhow, I've got a few cafepress things now (surprise)... some I've been careful with and some that I've deliberately been tough on. They hold up well enough. My oldest one is still perfectly sharp and legible, but I'm sure it's faded some. I can't see it, but I bet if I ordered a new one and put them side by side, I could spot the differences. And in a similar vein, I've got some direct screen print shirts that have gone to %$#@ after a few times in the dryer.
But Checkernuts- you said you "always thought that they look cheap". So you've already seen them yourself- sorry you didn't care for the look. Me, I prefer sublimation to the thick screenprint thing. Happily, There's lots of folks on the forum that are doing screenprint shirts, and I'll bet they'd be happy for you to get one or two or three...
Daytripper- I'll pop a "What's the Other Wheel For" design up later today or maybe tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have done uploaded the shirt designs, and I done PMed ya, Robert.
For everyone else...
There's now a few black tshirts on the cafepress/unicycles site. I'm sorry they're only letting us put designs on the fronts so far, and there are only Tshirts- no hoodies or nothin'- in black so far.
But for what it's worth, tell Santa what ya wants on there. And tell me if you see a combination that's not on there that you might want. Now that I upgraded the site, they'll let me put on more than one of each item.
The unicycling 'windchime weights' and 'rearview mirror danglers' are really Christmas ornaments, by the way. Or you could tie 'em to the ends of your hunting bolo for slinging at the heads of smart-aleck passers-by.
Your call.

Does the site ship to Australia??
how much?
dogzilla
2005-12-08, 12:20 PM
I assume so. They've shipped stuff from my site to Japan and Germany. I know Australia's kinda far and everything, but heck, this is the 21st century...

Thanks for the heads up I thought so as it seemed setting up any other custom printing for so many different orders would be impossible to do.
And in a similar vein, I've got some direct screen print shirts that have gone to %$#@ after a few times in the dryer.
Ive had this problem too, it usually happens when I screen stuff with the wrong textile medium or the heat press doesnt set the ink correctly.
But Checkernuts- you said you "always thought that they look cheap". So you've already seen them yourself- sorry you didn't care for the look. Me, I prefer sublimation to the thick screenprint thing.
The reason I say I thought they look cheep is that often when you see sublimation prints they are done with a clear background which color is printed onto. I have seen alot of other companies (usually not as professional, ie the kind of stuff you see at the beach) that print in this way and while the clear layer does not have color, you can typically still see the outline of where it was cut.
I'm glad to hear that cafe press' stuff is of a better quality than that and that they are holding up well in the was. I have often thought about printing one or 2 shirts for people but been too lazy to do the set up work needed to screen print 3colors.
Thanks for the info zilla
Mike

Wanted to thank Robert N. in Devon GB for actually buying unicycle shirts after the Christmas holidays! I was afraid the site would die on December whatever-the-shipping-cutoff-is.
I gratefully acknowledge all my well-dressed customers. I made almost $50 off the cafepress stuff this holiday season, so I see a fine new seat in my near future.
Anyone want to weigh in on the Miyata vs. KH debate? Suggest me the best seat, willya?
