I tried escargot last night...it was pretty much the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. it was like chewing on rubber that was soaked in garlicky stuff. but it wasn't rubber, it was a freakin snail...which made it even worse. I felt like I was on Fear Factor. heheh.
anyway, do you like escargot?

I don't think you're actually supposed to chew them, just a couple of bits to get the juice out, then swallow. Yummy!

I'm all about sushi. But you guys can keep the uni.

I don't think I've tried escargot yet... but I have eaten squid, octopus, and more grossly, jellyfish.

BTW, for those about to ask, without doing a little search (on sushi + uni), here's a picture from our Japan trip last summer:

My favorite sushi delicasy is the Quail Egg shooters. It's a raw quail egg, straight up. And boy are they good with sushi.

From your description it obviously wasn't prepared properly. Escargo when cooked properly should be a little chewy but not rubbery.

Did you know it was snail before or after you tried it?

How 'bout that Kizka?

I love sushi and fried calamari. I've tried octopus, but I've never tried Jellyfish () or escargot, though I'm sure I might like it.

Oh, speaking of slightly strange foods, I was in Australia last summer and had the wonderful opportunity to try their signature Vegemite-on-toast....
I looked like this > eew:eek: oh!:o wtf?

Pickled Asparagus contorts my face in a similar way..

I'll try anything once.

Whew! That came close to resurrecting the Marmite thread. Good thing no one mentioned Marmite.

I think if they simply called them snails then fewer people would eat them. "Escargot" is a euphemism for "icky snail".

yeah, I did know it was snail before I tried it...I think that if I didn't know it was snail, it would have been a little more bearable. just that mental image of chewing a slimy worm-bug...yeck...but anyway.
I've also tried calamari, which I thought was pretty tasty. and sushi, I don't like that, it's like all sticky, and, stuff...mhmm. my friend, when he was about four years old, he reeaally liked frog legs. so he had frog legs for his fourth birthday.

Snails aren't bugs they are mollusks, just like clams, oysters, mussels, etc.

I think you didn't like the escargot because you knew you'd made up your mind about before you even tried it. But it's certianly not for everyone. After all some people think McDonald's hamburgers are the greatest food ever invented.

I ate snails once. As a dish they tasted good, but as with all things soaked in a delicious garlic sauce, it's difficult to say what they, the snails, really tasted like.

I'm not fond of zuchinni, for example, but a battered, deep fried zuchinni stick might as well be a french fry as far as I'm concerned.

Once upon a time, as my company's environmental engineer, I inspected a truck that was about to pick up a load of our hazardous waste. The truck was partially loaded with drums of oxidizers and poisons from another company. When I inquired of the driver about the drums, he told me that they had been picked up from a company that manufactured hamburger patties for McDonalds.
