We should get a list of all the people who want to play a chess tournament and have all those sign up on gameknot.com
It looks as if we can only play in 'all open' tournies on game knot, (unless I don't see something)
So we can take that list, have a randomized start, and everyone play each other in one of these kind of dealies (pictured below)
(I volunteer to get all names and randomize the draw)
So, reply to this thread with your name if you are interested, and I will post the playing order on Saturday
Please post your gameknot user ID as well, so people can find each other.
(lets keep this thread void of chess screen shots, and only post the updated tourney chart)

Players have up to 3 days to move. (as per default gameknot rules)
However, due to the amount of people playing, it would be best if you could move asap (withour sacrificing your tactics)
Round 2 can only be reached once Round 1 is completed.
I wonder...should we cap the round time at 1 week and declare the winner of unfinished games? perhaps using the point count of lost pieces, if the one week time period passes? (any other ideas)
Whatever seems to be the general concensus on Sat when I place the players will stand through the tournament.

I will then randomize the order, and post round one matches.
if your game is not done one week later, (are we all cool with this one?) the game will be called based on points.
please pm me your results, and i will post the updated chart when I have all the results.

Loosemoose
2005-08-28, 08:56 PM
Ok, first match is complete, between myself & skate4flip. A well fought (and at times very tactical) game played out on the right hand side of the board primarily. In the end, a very obscure en-passent move allowed me to get my pawn close enough to his side of the board. I sacrificed my queen to take his, and replaced it a few moves later with a promotion. That left me with an unavoidable checkmate.
Good game, bad luck skate.
Loose.

2005-08-28, 09:12 PM
Ya that was a good game loosemoose.. If you didnt get that queen back i would of had more of a chance. I should of gone on the offensive more instead of just playing denfense alot of the game. Oh well. Good luck in the rest of the tournament.:)
Loosemoose
2005-08-28, 09:35 PM
cheers skate, maybe we'll have a 'highest scoring losers' match, cos u got a lot of points from me in that game.
For general information, I plan on pages like this (http://www.one-wheel.net/media/final/Chess/Round1Game1.html) for each game. If you could PM me the contents of the PGN file (click the PGN link below the final outcome picture on gameknot) I can make these pages fairly readily. Arrow keys control game progression.
Loose.
skate4flip
2005-08-28, 09:41 PM
I am kind of confused what the whole PGN thing is and what it does but i copied the code and PM it to you. (on unicyclist.com).
Loosemoose
2005-08-28, 09:45 PM
Is ok skate, I've done the one for our game (thats the link I gave for an example). There's an option below a finished game to look at the 'PGN' source. Its basically notation for how the moves took place in the game. From that I can generate the java viewer and everyone can view every move in the game (the moves are the important bit but if you want other info like who was what colour & stuff then I need the whole thing).

Yes, this is a simple unicyclist chess tournament with enough players to make an unbalanced trickle-down tourney, meaning we have had to deal with it. Had you made any objections previously about the matter, we could have weighed your input accordingly.
We could have a spelling bee to determine the winner if you prefer.

so who is left now?
catboy?
i have a better solution to the un-even number of 3..... its more fair than the points thing.
i'll talk about it when all 2nd round games are done. sounds like theres only one more going.

I dunno I would PM catboy to see if he is finished yet.

I'm on my second game right now, since loosemoose only makes one move per day, but we're rushing into a big battle right now, so within 10 moves the game will be over... but hopefully not 10 days.

Hopefully, I am itching to win this tourney.

Yeah sorry about that catboy, I've been preparing for going to uni so haven't been sat on the computer like I would be usually... We made a decent flurry of moves the other day, and we're heading for a rapid finish (at least I think we are :p). I'll be on more this next week.
Loose.

You can look at anybody's gameknot games by clicking on "players", then "games in progress".

ok, i see the game is acually over.
so its now
................Jagur
.................MERCYME
.................Loosemoose
is that right?

I agree with that
................Jagur
.................MERCYME
.................Loosemoose
So Jagur plays MERCYME
MERCYME plays Loosemoose and
Loosemoose plays Jagur
The first one to lose a game is out and the other two then play a World Champ style final.
Thoughts?

no, the fairest way i thought was that two people play. one waits....the loser of the game plays the waiter and the winner sits untill theres a winner of the loser-waiter game.
theres is decision in that option but it can be handled by option B...
Option B
go by the stupid point thing but the two with the least points...... play it out then the most point winner thats watching , plays the winner of the 2nd and 3rd point winners.

so hows this going?it was going great untill the organizer got knocked out and never posted again.
the 3 person "final" was flawed too. sould have waited for another few entree's
Loose, Mercy and I all won i guess.
im personally getting my ass kicked all over Gameknot right now. i entered a tourny at the "advanced" level...big mistake.....but hey , if i pull one game off i get mega points!

I entered that tournament too but enetered the "casual" level because im not that good. Im still in round 1 and won all 4 games i played. The other two games i am still playing and i need to win 1 of them to go to round 2 i think.

You sure you just want to give me the victory like that, or do you want to play a match.
Heh Heh Heh...
-----------------Back to seriousness---------------
Yeah what is that all about with Brian just leaving like that, and not even helping us with the next round.
About that tournament, I haven't used Gameknot forever, I didn't even notice it, and its probably too late for me to enter.
I've been playing a lot of Scrabble tournaments lately.
I've gone off Chess since my new cell-phone started kicking the crap out of me.
If anyone fancies a game or three, give me a shout.
May the Q be with U.
Yeah what is that all about with Brian just leaving like that, and not even helping us with the next round. That's not entirely fair.
Brian drew up the roster (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=362064&postcount=96) that governed round two.
He then posted the solution to the three-player round three
total points in round 1+2, please post your total points
There was some dispute about this which he also addressed
Yes, this is a simple unicyclist chess tournament with enough players to make an unbalanced trickle-down tourney, meaning we have had to deal with it. Had you made any objections previously about the matter, we could have weighed your input accordingly.
We could have a spelling bee to determine the winner if you prefer.
You can read the ensuing exchange on page 7 (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42859&page=7) and decide if you wouldn't have 'just walked away' from it as well.
The remaining players seemed intent on not completing the tournament in the way it was initially laid out and nobody seemed came up with any concrete suggestions.
So, while it is true that Brian didn't finish what he started, I for one do not blame him.

i came up with a few ideas on a fix to the 3 party problem ( they are posted), but also was waiting for the tourny makers responce...that never happened.
i never decided on the point thing, i was busy playing chess like the tourny demanded at the time, not watching the thread or posting about the conundrum....in the end, the three who made it in decided that point value knocking someone out was rediculas.
we responded to the issue by letting it be...
everything was was copasetic untill today.
everything was was copasetic untill today. That's a kewl Scrabble word I've never known before.
Thanx.
BTW, I only weighed in because I couldn't let what I regard as an unfair attack on Sofa go unchecked.
