monkeys I would strongly argue that this comment (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=299792#post299792) by Harper is what doomed this thread to a long and fruitless life. I would note, not without some irony, that DigitalDave's comment earlier is what started the ball rolling.
And I will confess now to being, and simultaneously lay to rest, Elliot Neff (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=9709).

I had an idea that -1 would be an alias poster. And I had a pretty good gut feeling that we wouldn't end at zero.
But in the grand scheme of things, ending this thread is of little importance. Too many roses to smell in other places.

Are you making a plea, a suggestion, or a threat? Personally I think this thread has a lot of life left in it and as one who firmly believes in the sanctity of life, I'm not ready to let it go. I think it's forum-wide...
Actually, I was thinking that really old threads should not be resurrected, as it gets confusing and people start replying to the very old questions. I was thinking a solution would be to have the reply to an old thread start a new thread but have a link to the very old thread... or maybe do something to make it clear that the posts are pretty old.

I like that too with certain threads. There have been a few resurrected threads that were confusing. Ex. "My new Coker frame" When it gets resurrected, we find out that the thread is 4 years old, the rider gave up unicycling 2 years ago, is now involved in competitive pogo sticking and his Coker frame was sold to jagur who sold it to jjuggle who sold it to.....

Yes, resurrected threads can be Good. Like continuing a nice discussion after hitting the Pause button to use the restroom. And sometimes, the voices from the past have more and better to say about a given topic than the voices of the present. The new generation can certainly benefit from the voices of Rhysling and many others that have either gone inactive or just gone.
To the point that was made about confusion, I'd say learning to deal with ambiguity is an essential life skill. Might as well let folks practice it here.

EEG has conclusively confirmed that this thread is BRAIN DEAD, but is being kept alive by life support.
In the movie The Sea Within (Spanish with subtitles) the lead character, a paraplegic, wants to die. he says: Life is a priviledge, not an obligation. I speak for the Thread Killer thread when I quote him.
Let the thread die!!!

OK. Not only are people starting to sound brain dead--with all the "what's your name again?" and "Billy, Did you say something?" stuff. But in addition, no one has been talking about thread killers for about 40 pages.
You all should take your "resurrected thread" discussion elsewhere!!

Dan Quayle.
Dylan Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night”
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

THE THREAD has reached the stage where it is only about itself. It is a ghost-thread with no tangible substance. THE THREAD haunts the forum and there is only one way to kill it. Only when we all purge ourselves of the desire to revive THE THREAD, it will, at last, be able to rest in obscurity.

Excellent question, my dear Dustin. Reading the above responses carefully, you can see that although YOU are against frogs, they have many fine allies among our fellow beings. Although you devalue frogs, there are many here among us who value them.
In fact, they can be a measure of impending ecological disaster, as when there numbers drop precipitously as an indicator that plastics breaking down in our water supply contribute estrogen-like substances, which create lower fertility rates in many species, and smaller testicles. They are the earth's "canary-in-the-coalmine."
But even if they (like unicyclists :D ) had absolutely no usefulness to humanity, we should still value them, just like your mom values you. I value each of the creatures here, and I'm sure you do too.
I know that creates a problem when you wish to intimidate people not to post anymore, but let's all work together nicely to find a way to kill this thread, without scare tactics or intimidation toward our fellow unicyclists, without name-calling, or revealing our biases against one or another of the kind creatures who we share the planet with.
I need the big Tongue-In-Cheek smilie here.....
We can leave the topic and return to thread killing......

That's the Monday effect. The weekend posts and then the Monday avalanche of posts can bury a thread like this one.

Intentional invocation of this so-called "Nazi Clause" is ineffectual.

But there's more to life than longevity.
If I were a thread, I'd like to feel I really said something, about more than egg salad.
I'd like to know that I brought people together, hopefully in love or in meaningfully conflict, which is just another form of intimacy.
And when I'm at my best, I help all threads feel good about themselves, by filling them with the kind of content I indicated above.
Love to all,

Aruba bridge is falling down,
falling down, falling down
Aruba bridge is falling down,
My fair lady
Hardbeatnews, ORANJESTAD, Aruba, Fri. Sept. 9, 2005: Aruba has lost one of its most photographed and cherished sights, the spectacular 100-foot long Natural Bridge.
The Bridge, called one of the island’s most treasured attractions by the Aruba Tourist Board, fell into the ocean on September 2 after centuries of pounding by the surf.
The Natural Bridge rose 25-feet above the sea and the geological wonder was one of the Caribbean’s highest and most dramatic coral structures.
The Tourist Board blamed it on the continually changing evolution of nature and said plans are underway to pay tribute to this beloved part of the island’s history. – Hardbeatnews.com

ah, so the rim must be done in 11, leaving only four bites for the center

You'll get no flack from me. South African men are manly men. Look what they have to deal with:
Spider shrieks herald spring (http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_1773102,00.html)
Johannesburg - It's that time of year: the gentle sounds of summer approaching; lawnmowers, crickets, birdsong, the fizz of beer cans opening - and the shrieks of suburbanites confronted by rain spiders.
"They are among the biggest non-tarantula spiders in the world," said amateur arachnologist Astri Leroy.

the Parktown Prawn (http://www.scienceinafrica.co.za/2003/november/monster.htm) is the true nightmare around here
the pics in this article does not even begin to do justice to the primeordially evilness that is a Parktown Prawn
they are truly hideous and i freak out completely when i find one in my house
now that i'm living on my own, i'll probably just go book into a hotel for the night
i used to have a cat who would catch and kill these dudes

But Esau lay there and rattled in his throat. His clouded, questioning eyes were directed upon his master, with a look of complaining, innocence, and incomprehension - and then he stretched out his legs a little and died.
But Tobias stood there motionless, as he was. He had laid his face against Esau's body and he wept bitter tears.

My friend the unicycle
When you approach to this strange item, make sure that the helmet is on your head ,and the kneecaps are on the right place.
It's different to a horse, you cannot see at once where front and the rear is. But don't worry, you will find it out. The seatclamp shows in riding direction, that means the screw is in the back. Most of the time the saddle is a little bit smaller on the front side. The pedals and cranks are marked with "R" and "L" for left and right. This is very important, because if you use them in the wrong position the pedal will become loosen and you will damage the tread.
It is easy to find the right position for your saddle. When sitting on the saddle your leg should be straight when the pedal is in the lowest position. The picture shows you how to measure easy. When you are with your breast on the saddle and your fingertips can touch the axle, then you have the right size!
Easiest way to find the right seat hight
If you have a good friend ,ask him to help you for the first step. If you want to make a secret of your exercising, then you need to hold on a banister or handrail. A good idea is to do it in a door, you can hold with both hands at the doorframe. A telephone box is also a nice place for the first step.
And now: let's go. Hold with one hand at the handrail or at your friend. Try to hold the saddle between your legs and the right pedal schould be on the position 4 o`clock. When you push down the pedal, the unicycle will move automatically under your body. Now you are sitting in an upright position on the bike. ( Don't you?) Congratulations, now you are about 4-6 hours away from riding a unicycle. The next aim should be to find the right ballance on the bike. Very important is that your body is always in an upright position, never look down to the wheel.

And the bright light of salvation
Up in dark and empty skies
When the cities are on fire
With the burning flesh of men
Just remember that death is not the end

The Hound of the Baskervilles
by A. Conan Doyle
Chapter 1
Mr. Sherlock Holmes
Mr. Sherlock Holmes, who was usually very late in the mornings,
save upon those not infrequent occasions when he was up all night,
was seated at the breakfast table. I stood upon the hearth-rug
and picked up the stick which our visitor had left behind him the
night before. It was a fine, thick piece of wood, bulbous-headed,
of the sort which is known as a "Penang lawyer." Just under the
head was a broad silver band nearly an inch across. "To James
Mortimer, M.R.C.S., from his friends of the C.C.H.," was engraved
upon it, with the date "1884." It was just such a stick as the
old-fashioned family practitioner used to carry--dignified, solid,
and reassuring.
"Well, Watson, what do you make of it?"
Holmes was sitting with his back to me, and I had given him no
sign of my occupation.
"How did you know what I was doing? I believe you have eyes in
the back of your head."
"I have, at least, a well-polished, silver-plated coffee-pot in
front of me," said he. "But, tell me, Watson, what do you make
of our visitor's stick? Since we have been so unfortunate as to
miss him and have no notion of his errand, this accidental souvenir
becomes of importance. Let me hear you reconstruct the man by an
examination of it."
"I think," said I, following as far as I could the methods of my
companion, "that Dr. Mortimer is a successful, elderly medical
man, well-esteemed since those who know him give him this mark
of their appreciation."
