JF has been around longer. I actually had to merge the "John Foss" and "johnfoss" usernames to get the total for him.
so if we divided those totals by the amount of threads posted on, or the amount of months/years that poster's been around, we'll get a figure that's more sensible to compare?

Many of you have been secretly wondering how to kill a thread. Others know exactly how to execute threads. And some just kill threads inadvertently, like you. (You know who I'm talking to).
But what about you others? Have you ever felt that YOU were to blame for the death of a thread that your fellow uni riders had been enjoying? Feeling a little guilty? Or like it might be something about YOU that makes a thread die. Like maybe you are THE COOLER (seen the movie?).
I killed Raphael's fart thread, and despite MuniPsycho's valiant efforts to revive it, the damage was too great. Like the doctors who did everything to save the patient. It's easy to find the thread killers, because the LAST one to post is listed.
I just went to p. 3 and examined the threads. I don't want to point any fingers, but SOMEONE'S name appears MORE than anyone elses. YES, we have a thread MASS MURDERER in our midst.
I will say no more. Do the research. No need to name names. We know who you are..... THREAD KILLER!!!
Add my name to the list of those who will NO LONGER POST to this thread!

I "borrowed" the character Jeep from a guy over at jeepforum.com. I thought it was pretty neat as well.
As far as the real thing, I not sure if it's a repair or recovery job at this point. We have the thing somewhat apart.
Here's a brief list:
1. Right front fender removed and a replacement waiting for repaint before installation.
2. Roll cage removed and found severe rust through damage underneath the feet of the cage. Got to cut out and weld in patchwork.
3. Driver's floorboard almost gone due to rust through. I've been working at cleaning out the shards of metal before I form, cut out, and weld in a new piece of metal. Passenger side floor is rusted through but not as bad and can be patched up. I'll be using a project called POR-15 (Paint Over Rust) as future rust prevention. Supposed to be awesome stuff.
4. Driver's seat broken so purchased pair of used seats. Seats removed so now got to get the seats separated from the bases, base rust addressed, and replacement seats installed.
5. Tailgate and left rocker panel underneath door have surface rust problems.
6. Rear frame has small portion of rust through. Need to weld in some metal.
7. Horn doesn't work and can't trace the wires yet.
8. Carpet removed and needs severe cleaning or be left out for good.
9. Engine tune up stuff done. Engine runs very well.
10. Some softtop rails needed a screw here and there and other minor plastic molding pieces replaced.
11. etc.,etc.,etc.
I need a welder to call my own. I've wanted on since Jr. High but just never took the steps to get on. I'm in the market for a 220v MIG. New flux core wire allows for gasless welding with a MIG now. I'll also have to run a 220v line out to the garage. Probably will just take if off our dryer circuit in the house and just not use the welder and dryer at the same time. Of course, I'll have to get a building permit for the electrical work! :)

It is ...
I found the same in my renovation 4 years ago.
I also removed the rollbars, but didnt have to have welding.
I used 50 year silicon caulk in between the body and rollbar when I reassembled. (after removing rust and coating with por-15, then used enough caulk to squeeze out any penetration by water)
Then I used rust/rubber spray paint to prevent future nicks around the base of rollbar.
Since I knew I was going all out, I also purchased a cage/rollbar attachment kit. I now have a rollcage.
( Cuz, ... just think about it ... If you rollover .. theres only the windshield frame to save your head.)
You should check the window hinges.
Mine were rusted thru.
The easiest way to check it is to release the bolts and tilt it forward onto the hood.
A real pain in the ass, but, if your rollbar and seats are out, you should be able to replace it easier. Be sure to order a new window seal while your at it.
Check front A frames too.
Happy Rehab :D

Dave,
Our roll cage extends to the top of the windshield so we have a bit more than just the mid-roll bar. But I know there is a more substantial roll cage available.
What are the A frames?

I mean check the upper frame for the shock mounts.
Look for rust around the welds or cracks.
(Where that upper meets the frame)
I had my local garage reinforce the welds, since he was also welding the rollcage frame brackets anyway.

i sent an SMS (text message in some parts of the world) to aforementioned friend with the simple salutation 'Yo'
i received a reply at about 11h00 and phoned said friend, jokingly asking how impressive it was that i could actually spell 'Oi' at 09h00

i sent an SMS (text message in some parts of the world) to aforementioned friend with the simple salutation 'Yo'
i received a reply at about 11h00 and phoned said friend, jokingly asking how impressive it was that i could actually spell 'Oi' at 09h00
it was only after loud and prolonged laughter from friend that i realised what i'd said/done
there it is, the Yo-Oy/Oi episode
riveting, wasn't it? Yes, I got the private communication. I guess you had to be there, but sounds like a good chuckle between friends.

My subsequent PM to Billy simply stated that "Empirically this is not the case" meaning that since I posted in his supposedly dead thread, it is not dead.
He has subsequent to that reported that a thread is dead after it reaches page three. Is this generally accepted?
I would now express the opinion that, in fact, no thread is ever dead unless specifically locked by the administrator.
All threads are subject to revival and so exist in a state of suspended animation, not death.

Does that explain why when you click on "Views" from the main JC page to "stack rank" the threads by number of Views, the "Most Views" thread doesn't show up even though it's still probably #2?
In theory, if people followed the intent of the thread and just viewed but never replied, the thread would be both alive and dead at the same time. A zombie thread...

Tom,
That is NOT so. Most of us have been to "Viewings," in some circles known as "wakes," where you view the dead thread.
By the way, in the shared private communication the dead thread referred to was the one JJuggle revived on anti-Bush comments.

No, hopefully it won't ever be rediscovered. mind you we could bury it in a giant pyramid.

So should the movie, "Return of the Mummies", have been named more appropriately, "Enter the Zombies"

You're the best, Gilby.
Now we can locate and name the THREAD KILLERS!

Does anyone have the codes necessary to disarm this thread before it gets to zero? Its ok, the countdown will abort at around 10, NASA style, and the whole thing will start again in the middle of next month. Yet more of your taxpayer dollars down the drain.

To live is to die
so to love life is to accept death,
and anyways it's only gonna have a bit of death ... in the end part.

So, that atempt to kill this thread failed, what shall we try next? Maybe we could say the next 10 people to post after this message will no longer be allowed to post in this thread. You may think I don't have the authority to enforce this (I don't), but could you really live with yourself if you posted when you were not supposed to?

251 :)
The countdown counter got stored in an unsigned char. An unsigned char can hold values from 0 to 255. When it gets to -1 it wraps around to 255 and continues counting down.
The count never reached -1 which was the exit condition for the loop. The loop continues
unsigned char count;
count = 100;
while (count > -1)
{
post in the thread
count = count - 1;
}
kill the thread
The loop never terminates. The thread will never die. :)

I didn't make it up. That's the way computers work.
But I did goof. This version is a little more subtle in the logic error involved.
unsigned char count;
count = 100;
while (count >= 0)
{
post in the thread
count = count - 1;
}
kill the thread
Gilby will be unable to compile it because it will fail on line 5 due to a syntax error. This will have to only serve as an example.
