mac is pretty much a internet only computer

untruth. I would hate to have to edit video on a windows.
It's a less gaming computer, sure, but still. internet only is pushing it. A long way.
The only way a mac is a net only compy is if you're a windows gamer who only games and uses his comp for internet.

Owning a PC for the past few years, and now owning a Mac, I'd say that Macs are better in every aspect... other than games. For that I'd get a game system... not a PC.

If you have a Mac and you buy a Garmin GPS, what mapping software are you going to get for it? Garmin doesn't support the Mac. Their solution for Mac users is to run their Windows software using a PC emulator like Virtual PC.

woot for your uncle.
as for that: well ya, there are things that don't support mac. but there are things almost exactly like them that do.

It's any of the Garmin GPS units. Garmin doesn't do any Mac mapping software. If you have a Mac or Linux you are out of luck unless you run a Windows emulator.
Magellan is the same way. They don't do Mac versions of their mapping software either.
Garmin and Magellan are pretty much the entire market for consumer GPS units. That means Mac users can't get a GPS with built in mapping that supports their wonderful little pretty box.
Don't underestimate the lock-in power of having needed software only available for a specific platform (be it Windows, DOS, Mac, or Linux). Way way back in the days of DOS (before Windows) my mom needed some databases that were available on CD. The available databases all required DOS to run. Guess what kind of computer we got? Guess what kind of computer I learned all about? Guess what kind of computer I use now? The Mac was never an option even though it was available back then and had a better interface.
Oh, and that CD-ROM drive was something like $300 back then. They were expensive little things. Only a double speed, single session, and required a CD caddy to hold the CD. That's all that was available at the time. State of the art.
