What movies have you seen that you though would be good and really did not click?
The last tread mainly dealt with the Fockers & ND.
My nominee:
I rented Lady Killers on a whim. It may have been OK but the foul language was way over the top and killed the whole movie.

"Anchorman" and "Elf" were both huge recent disappointments for me. I've seen Will Ferrell do some really funny stuff and these were not them.
Unlike Raphael, I thought "Mystic River" was good but I didn't like it. Much like Raphael, I loathed "Eraserhead" but I never made it to the end of it.
I thought "La Dolce Vita" was Fellini at his absolute worst, though.
"Star Wars" - Bad acting, god-awful effects, no plot, no conclusion.

I'm not particularly fond of his work.
I am looking forward to Melinda and Melinda (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378947/), Woody Allen's latest movie. I saw the preview when I went to see Sideways the other night. Within one line I thought it must be Allen and I was right. I hope Will Ferrell doesn't ruin it. ;) I haven't looked forward to a Woody Allen movie in quite a while.

I'll get some flack on this so I will elaborate. I will start with two questions. Is there sound in space? Are there aerodynamics in space? If those were special effects I would say they were very special effects indeed.
The fact that the acting was atrocious I believe will go unchallenged. If I am incorrect, please use complete sentences and correct grammar and spelling in your rebuttal, if you are at all able. Aye aint hukked on foniks.
I even coined the term "Star Wars ending" for movies which have endings with no conclusion. That is, a movie in which a bunch of stuff happens and at the end of it, everyone around just begins to cheer or someone gets on stage and everyone cheers for no apparent reason other than to end the movie.
"The Scent of a Woman" falls into that category with the little touching speech toward the end. How did Al Pacino win an Oscar for that dog role? He was totally unconvincing and Chris O'Donnell acted circles around him. Oh...that's right...it's the Academy. That's another movie that was a total loser in my book and Pacino is usually very good.

Let me get in line behind General Dribbles. They didn't stress the "HORROR" enough when they used the title "Rocky Horror Picture Show. That movie sucked so badly I could have vacuumed every rug in every theater in the U.S. with it. I hope your hand doesn't hurt too much after punching GD because you're going to have to punch me next.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, when it first came out was a flop in the theatre. The midnight showing in NYC with all the people dressing up, singing along and throwing stuff, came a few years later. So unless you go to a theatre and do the interactive Rocky Horror thing, you probably wouldn't like it. It was low budget all the way! For the record, I've seen it at least 50 times (not always in the theatre) and I have to say I love the music.

"All Dogs Go to Heaven" - animated. My mother used to like to take my kids to an animated feature when she was in town. She took my entire family to this one. It reeked. The kids were bored out of their skulls. My mother got up halfway through the movie, went to the box office with all five stubs, and asked for her money back. The manager gladly refunded her money and said that they had received numerous complaints about how awful it was. He also said to stay for the rest of the movie if she wanted, no charge. None of us wanted to. She died shortly after that. I wonder if that hideous cartoon movie had something to do with it.

Napoleon Dynamite, worst most overplayed movie ever.
Also, I liked Mystic River.
Sky Captain and Thw world of Tomorrow pretty mcuh sucked a nut, same with The Leage of Extraordinary gentlemen.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is good, just a bit too much of a cliche thing these days.

I'll line up behind Harper and General Dibbles because I hated "Rocky Horrible Picture Show" also.
"Napolean Dynamite" a definite bomb
"Signs" no life there
"Bad Santa" A very bad concept for a movie
And the number one Don't See Movie that I'll bet no one will disagree with me on. "Gigli". I only rented it, because I wanted to see how bad it could possibly be.

All I have to say is every movie listed is a top 100 compaired to Ax 'Em (http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/ax-em/default.php) it is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. You know how some movies are so bad they are funny, well this one takes bad movies to a whole new level.

I know everyone will disagree with me, but DODGEBALL was the stupidest, stupidest movie I've ever seen, ever. holy crap is all I can say.
except the part with Lance Armstrong, that was pretty funny.
I didn't really like the Rocky Horror Picture Show either, but that's prolly because I just watched it on my computer by myself. I bet it would be really fun if I did the whole theatre interactive bit.
and of course the Time Warp was brilliant.

We saw 'Sideways' last Friday,
Didn't like it. Why would anyone like a movie about two losers touring the California vineyards sampling wine. Sure they meet some interesting women, but then they become even greater jerks. I did laugh, once or twice, but calling this a comedy is a stretch of the imagination.
Don't see it.

I first saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show as a stoned 14 year old. I loved it. I saw it next as a not stoned 18 year old and was bored to tears. Since then I have watched it a couple of times and enjoy it. Susan Sarandon was a hot kid and she ain't bad still today. And, yes, the music is great.
And speaking of Sarandon, Atlantic City was a great movie.
I think Signs is a good movie. Not great, but I enjoy it a lot.
The 4 sequels to Planet of the Apes blew.
Sideways was good becaue you have to work to sympathize with the main characters. All the way through. And that made it challenging and fun to watch. Plus all the foul language and sex was unexpected and made a lot of people in the theater uncomfortable. I enjoyed that, too.
The Madonna remake of Swept Away sucked big time.

Seriously though, given its time, Star Wars was a great movie.
Sure, some of the concepts were a little inaccurate. None of the ships were particularly aerodynamic. Also, you must consider that these ships were also often used on planetary missions, and needed to be reasonably aerodynamic to enter harsh atmospheres. Also, aerodynamic things look cool, and cool looking things sell. There is no sound in space because, as you know, there is nothing to vibrate. But big loud explosions are cool and fun and sell.
The acting was not exemplary by any means. But it was not BAD acting. It was average quality acting out of actors new to Hollywood.
The story is the part where the movie really shines IMHO. The story really draws you in. Then it resolves halfheartedly. Which leaves you wanting more. The plot has several twists, all of which only partially reslove. So now they can make Episode 5, 6, 7, 1, 2, 3, 50 -16 whatever they want. But it's a good story.
Another good thing is the special effects. They were good back then I hear. Whatever I'm tired.

Skip Assault on Precinct 13 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0398712/). Very disappointing, although I can't honesty say what I expected. Lawrence Fishburn wasn't bad, but Ethan Hawke wasn't very good. And why does Gabriel Byrne keep doing this crap? On the plus side, it does provide a number of opportunities to see the ways blood can flow out of a head and into the snow.

Alexander. I wanted to shoot Angelina Jolie and all them others by the end of it. It was so bad that in one of the major emotion scenes, where Alexander's lover is dying, someone's cell phone n the theater rang. Someone sarcastically said "oh, you ruined the feeling" and then the person picked up and started talking. Noone complained, even though it was a packed theater.

Oh. I just got reminded about this in another thread. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" has got to be one of the biggest losers I have ever seen. It was pretty...that was about it. The worst effects inanything I've ever seen. I think that was acting...maybe it was just random behavior with scripted parts thrown in every once in awhile.
"Crouching Director, Hidden Talent" is more like it. My daughter and I saw this dog in a matinee performance. There was no one else in the theater. We sat right in the middle and talked and made up our own dialog through the whole thing. We even asked the projectionist to turn down the sound. That part was fun.

One movie that I regret seeing was the one by the name of "Godsend."
I sat down with high expectations for the movie, and it started out really well. Unfortunaly, it revealied the plot twist way to early. Afterwared, it spent the rest of the movie getting way to drawn out and heading in a total opposite direction then what I thought it built up to.
This is one of those movies that you will either like or hate. It is a pity I found that it fell flat on its face.

While in college at Northern Illinois in 1980, the student union showed free movies on Friday nights for students. Mary and I were dating at the time and she was visiting from her college, Northern Michigan. I decided to take her out to the free movie, a great opportunity for a date by a student on a extremely limited budget. We went to see, "Lost in America." After 20 minutes of the movie, we left. It was the worst and most boring movie we've ever seen and the only movie on which we've ever walked out.
I spend a little more on dates with Mary now days. :)

I have to apologize. After some thought, going to see Lost in America was in 1986, not 1980. Mary and I were married and I was back at NIU after my military tour. The 1980 date was some other movie that escapes me at the moment. We must have been preoccupied or something and I can't remember what movie it was.
Raphael, yeah, I guess I missed it. No wonder I've grown up feeling an empty spot in my soul. Now I have been enlightened as to the source of my long-term ache. After seeing the first 20 minutes though, I think I'll live with the ache. :)

I had to watch it with the Director's voiceover to understand much o the movie, as outlined in [bold] below. This movie is the best example of poor storytelling.
Sam sabotages a base gas pipe to convince GERTY to allow him outside to repair the fault. [This suggests GERTY, the computer, is against Sam] Once outside the base, Sam instead goes to investigate the damaged harvester, where he finds someone barely alive in the crashed rover: another Sam Bell, identical to himself. He brings the second Sam back to the Sarang [which means "love" in Korean] base.
The two Sams struggle to come to grips with the existence of each other, each believing the other to be a clone of himself, with the first Sam's physical and mental state beginning to rapidly deteriorate. The second Sam reflects himself at the beginning of his contract; sharp, headstrong and short-tempered. Unable to find answers in the base, as to the reasons for the inability to contact earth "live", they investigate the source of the base's communication problem by venturing outside the base's perimeter. There they find a series of antennas jamming direct live communication with Earth. [But earlier, Sam interrupts Gerty in a live feed communication with Earth. Gerty denies this, so again, we are led to believe that Gerty is like 2001's Hal, against the astronaut and covertyl in support of the mission] The first Sam starts feeling pain and becoming ill, and returns to base where their suspicions of cloning are confirmed when, with the aid of GERTY, he discovers video logs of previous Sam Bell clones: working, becoming ill, getting into the "hibernation" pod to return home, and being incinerated. The three-year "contract" is actually the clone's life-span as GERTY insinuates. [This was not clear]
Now with a better understanding of the nature of his existence, he explores the death chamber further, discovering a hidden chamber beneath it. [It was not clear this was a death chamber] The two Sams explore the chamber together, finding an extensive cache of clones, each one with the same set of clothes close by. The first Sam takes a rover out beyond the jammers, [how did Gerty have live-feed communication with Earth if jammers blocked the signal on the ship?] and establishes an up-link with the Bell residence using a portable rugged communication device. He dials home and, while blinding the camera, he speaks with Eve now 15 years old who was the girl he had seen previously in his hallucinations. He learns that Tess has died "some years ago", and that the original Sam Bell is alive on Earth.
With only a few hours before the "rescue" team arrives, the two Sams realize that if they are discovered together, they will both be killed. The second Sam makes a plan to launch the first Sam back to Earth in the helium delivery vessel, activating another clone to take the first Sam's place in the damaged rover. Prior to enacting their plan, the first Sam, realizing that he is near death, insists that the second Sam escape whilst he returns to the rover to die. To cover up the second Sam's existence, GERTY permits Sam to wipe his memory and reboot him. [Here Gerty is in support of Sam, why?] After reprogramming one helium harvester to crash into the jammers, the second Sam launches his escape, which the first Sam sees in his final moments. With the jammer disabled, the base computer finally registers that a live up-link has been established. As the second Sam approaches Earth, voice-overs in different languages begin detailing the clone Sam Bell's evidence and Lunar Industries executives' arraignment on crimes against humanity. [This was definitely NOT clear. It was also not clear that sam returned with an H3 canister worth $MILLIONS]

Instant watching on Netflix has opened up a whole new world of b-movie viewing.
Dinosaurus (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053768/) was a total hoot.
Thankskilling (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1129441/) on the other hand was dreadful beyond imagination.

Amazing Grace and Chuck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazing_Grace_and_Chuck) is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Not quite in the same league as "Star Wars," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," or "The China Syndrome" but certainly up there in the stinko category. Since we're reviving this thread I think we should add "Avatar" and "AI" to the list of all-time god-awful films.

It is revealed somewhere earlier in this thread that I knew that these two were bad...really bad.

Star Wars is a movie that defined the era. Sure it was cheesy but it was oh so cool. I guess you're just not geeky enough :p

I don't like to read reviews or descriptions before I see movies. :(
Maybe when picking B-movies off of Netflix I'll have to make exceptions.

Here is a list of "don't see" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_considered_the_worst) movies. Luckily, I didn't have the misfortune of seeing any of them, except the 4th on the list, which is was so bad, it was actually good! :)

If you asked my wife, she would say 2010. I thought the special effects were pretty cool, but I can't suspend an unlimited amount of disbelief, which is basically what that movie requires.
I agree with Terry on Plan Nine from Outer Space. That movie is so far down the "bad" scale, it comes out on the other side of the universe in the funny-bad category. :) Fun to watch if you know what to expect!

Manos: The Hands of Fate is so bad that even watching the entire mystery science theatre version is pretty tough.

That list on Wikipedia lists Freddy Got Fingered as one of the worst films of all time. As of this discovery, I no longer trust Wikipedia for subjective analyses.

Anyone with a passing interest in Plan 9 From Outer Space or its director really should check out Tim Burton's Ed Wood (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109707/).
It's very good and Martin Landau won an Oscar for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi.
Wait, should this be in the 'Must See Movies' thread?
