It really depends on what kind of nuts you are talking about. I like peanuts roasted and in the shell. I like pastacio nuts roasted and with their shells cracked. I like almonds shelled for me. I like hazle nuts in cofee and chocolate. I don't care for wall nuts, Brazil nuts, or picans. I like chestnuts freshly roasted and un the shell. Coconuts, I like fresh from my neighbor's tree and on ice.

We buy 1 and 2 lb. bags of shelled nuts from the local Farm & Fleet (I know, I know. It's Fleet/Farm up north).

Nuts are a very good food in spite of the high calories. I have a small sandwich bag on my desk right now full of mixed nuts; Brazils, filberts, almonds, pecans, and cashews with some honey roasted almonds thrown in for good measure.

You're right. I've heard it was brothers snubbing each other and heading their separate ways. As I know it, Mills Fleet/Farm targets northern Wisconsin, Minnesota and I think the Dakotas whereas Blain's Farm & Fleet hangs around in southern Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. Either way, they're great stores with great stuff. I love going there.

Another post I can't make a meaningful contribution to. Without saying what kind of nut, my answer would be meaningless.

Mixed nuts with no peanuts are fine out of the shell. Peanuts by themselves are better in the shell. And pistachios, if they're already out of the shell, just don't taste the same.
