Cowboy Bebop, on Adult Swim. One of the greatest Anime ever. I own all of the episodes, the movie, nd the new special edition DVD.

http://www.animefurystudios.com/naruto%20copy.jpg
Naruto, my favorite anime and Maga. I own ever episode in english so far 1-122 and 5 of the manga books.
http://www.galeon.com/animeymangagaleria/img/grupos12.jpg
Ranma 1/2 a hilarious manga and decent TV series. Good video game.

http://www.absoluteanime.com/hellsing/index.jpg
Hellsing. A decent maga, but an awesome serious anime.
http://www.alyon.org/generale/theatre/cinema/affiches_cinema/g/g-gol/ghost_in_the_shell.jpg
The first movie was ok. The series is well... not so great. But the second movie, is better than all of the Star Wars movies, all of theLOTR movies and every action movie ever made since 1950, put together.

http://homepage.mac.com/jubei1/kenshin/kenshingumi.png
Rurouni Kenshin. An awesome series, must see.
http://digilander.libero.it/goku04online/ecard%20005-inuyasha.jpg
Inuyasha. A funny but cool series.

http://www.caratulasdecine.com/Caratulas/Doraemon.jpg
I love Doraemon, a robot-cat from the 24th century. It's funny. But only people who are deep into the japanese culture would understand half of the jokes. It;s only sold in japan, with an option of english subtitiles.

http://www.syntheticgraphics.com/meshes/images/gundam_ds.jpg
Gundam Wing and all other series of Gundam. One of the best anime ever, and with sch selection. I own several movies at least 10 series DVD sets and 20 something models. I love the MS 08 series the best, but there is nothing cooler than modeling a Zaku III 1/32 scale while watching "Endless Waltz" movie.

NOw, I could go on for another hour, listing the library of titles I enjoy, but I figure I might as well only give you a small bit of semi-popular titles to look at.

I tried to keep it all SFW, but if yo really want to see an awesome anime with tons of blood, gore and tons of naked ladies to boot, go rent : Ninja Scroll. most Hollywood video stores should have it, as well as some blockbusters.

did I fill your anime perversities full?

Akira also has tons of blood, however no awesome nakedness...

Catboy

The green one is my Zaku III, all of these are scale to one-another and I believe 1/116 scale.

Dual is also one of my favorite series, its got mecha and a funny story line. It's also the reason I am addicted to curry.
http://homepage.mac.com/wntermute/anime/pix/source/rpg-tristat-dual.jpg

And I cant forget to mention FLCL or Fooly Cooly or Furi Curi. It only has 6 episodes right now, but it is one of the coolest and most original anime ever.
http://www.tvtome.com/images/shows/20/3/48-13875-sm.jpg

P.S. I don't care if it is illegal either, but if you really wanted I could maybe burn you a few DVD's, like FLCL or Cowboy Bebop the movie.

But you would have to pay for shippin'.

an·i·me (ăn'ə-mā') n.

A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex.

[Japanese, short for animēshon, animation, from English ANIMATION.]

Astroboy does rock, alot. The manga is quite good too... and cheap.

As for Astro Boy, that may just be the American, or English-language name for that guy. I saw him several times in Japan, but never with any form of Astro Boy labeling. I can't remember his "real" name though.

Gilby, Jack Hughes and I also saw Ultra Man. Now he's definitely not anime because he was live-action:

Manga (漫画) is the Japanese word for comics; outside of Japan, it usually refers specifically to Japanese comics. Because most Japanese nouns have no plural form, manga can be used to refer to multiple comics, although mangas is sometimes used in English.

Manga should not be confused with manhua or manhwa, Chinese and Korean comic books, respectively.

Anime also includes, fantasy in non-futuristic settings.

If you're really addicted, you should check out Otakon (or any other convention, Otakon is the only one I've been to though) It's held in Baltimore every summer and it's a blast.

Offical Site (http://www.otakon.com/default2.asp)

Everyone's dressed up (I have to figure out what I'm going as this year) and you can buy every DVD you've ever heard of...

Yeeeah!! Captain Planet!! I remember him!! somewhat...

could someone please freshen up my memory?? I would love to remember more about this dude

darchibald
2005-02-04, 02:25 AM
I don't remember him being a big part of the show. He normally came in at the end to save the day. It was all about the planeteers (I can't remember their names but thats probably what it was). They all had different elemants and were from around the world. There was an american guy (very hip), Russian girl with wind or water power, chinese girl and south american guy with earth power. I think there was two more also. They would fight the big pig guy, boss hog is the name that comes to mind but I think thats off Dukes of Hazard. It was all about fighting polution.

Captain Planet,
He's our hero,
Gonna take polution down to zero!

That's all I remember but I do remember I loved it, or it could be one of those that you say you hate but secretly like and then miss when its gone.

David

I hate anime or manga or japanimation or whatever you wanna call it. Cept for Astro Boy and Speed Racer. Are TMNT's japanimation? If they are i like them too.

PS. I found a site, --> http://www.turner.com/planet/

YEAAAH! the rings!! I always wished I had some of those rings..

brockfisher05
2005-02-05, 04:36 PM
here is bassicaly how the show worked...................

These teens, from the far reaches of the world, are very different in background and upbringing but share one overwhelming passion: a heartfelt desire to save the Earth.

With rings given to them by Gaia, they each control one special element of nature that is an extension of their personalities and talents. The extent of these powers is limited and cannot approach the strength of Captain Planet. Once Captain Planet has been summoned forth, the rings are rendered powerless until he completes his tasks and returns to the Earth. Various forms of pollution also sap the powers of the rings.

Although the Planeteers are generally knowledgeable about environmental issues, they do not always understand the dangers posed by environmentally hazardous situations, and they may need an explanation from Gaia or Captain Planet.

Their vehicles - Wind Kayaks (small, swift boats), the Geo Cruiser (a large flying vehicle), Solar Cycles (small, motorcycle-like land vehicles), the Eco-Sub (a small underwater vehicle), and the Eco-Copster (a small, highly maneuverable flying vehicle) - are nonpolluting and operate off alternative energy sources.

CAPTAIN PLANET:

An environmental super hero with the powers of nature, Captain Planet is a composite of the five Planeteers and their powers - Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and Heart - magnified. At his disposal are all of the elements and forces of the natural world.

Intellectually, Captain Planet has an encyclopedic knowledge of the universe; emotionally, he is a blend of the five disparate personalities and imaginations of the Planeteers. He is the combination of their hearts and souls, and a metaphor for their teamwork and cooperation.

If Captain Planet is exposed to toxic wastes, smog, acid rain and other pollutants his powers are temporarily weakened, and he must return to the Earth to "recharge."

Captain Planet has a powerful empathic sense and "feels" the suffering of all fellow creatures - even evil ones. Hence, he does not like to inflict pain, which often requires him to use his wits in addition to his incredible strength to defeat the enemies of Earth. He's also quick-witted and usually has a comic line for the villains.

Although he is an environmental super hero, he also realizes that he is not the long-term solution to the world's ecological problems. He stresses that people must accept responsibility for the future of Earth. This is exemplified in his recurring line "The Power is Yours!", a reminder that people, indeed, have the power to bring about change.

Captain Planet only appears in his Captain Planet garb. These are not clothes but elements of the Earth that are integral to his composition. He is able to rearrange his molecular structure to transform himself into the various powers and elements of nature, e.g., water, wind, fire, ice, etc. Captain Planet's outfit does not represent a specific culture. He has grass-green hair, sky-blue skin, earthy brown eyes, blood-red chest, gloves and boots, and sunlight-yellow insignia/globe. The globe, on his chest, sometimes flickers and turns gray when he is losing power or is exposed to high levels of pollution.

Just thought I'd revive this thread instead of starting a new one.

My co-worker told me about this anime called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengen_Toppa_Gurren_Lagann); weird name, I know, but it's not bad. Pretty action-y (it's a mech anime) and you get attached to the characters.

Another one I really like is s-CRY-ed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scryed), good one to check out if you like the action-based animes. If you can't tell, I'm much more into those kind than the soap-opera-esque ones.

No...I'm saying that just because something is in cartoon form does not make it for kids. There are very psychological, violent, dramatic, romantic, thought-provoking, etc. types of anime, just like there types of live-action.

Here are some anime series I like. Click on the links if you want to read the story, I won't spoil anything here.

Claymore (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4892). If you enjoy fights with huge weapons.

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7408/claymore01jr9.jpg

One Piece (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=69). Has anyone mentioned this? I'm sure someone have. Check it out if you like series like Naruto, Dragonball, Bleach etc. I had a very hard time to get used to the style, but after watching some episodes (took quite some time for me) you'll eventually like it.

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7065/onepiecesw5.jpg

And some non-fighting anime. Not for those who dislike anime; you'll probably hate the following series.

School Rumble (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=2165). As the name implies, it's a school anime. Very "light weighted" with lots of humor.

http://azureflame.files.wordpress.com/2006/10/school-rumble-nigakki.jpg

Death Note (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4563). Where they use their brains to fight rather than over-sized swords. Recommended even if you aren't really into anime.

http://z.about.com/d/manga/1/0/8/6/-/-/DeathNote_Anime_Cast_500.jpg

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=3651). I guess you can call this a school anime too. Many references in the show, it can be quite hard to understand/easy to miss if you aren't familiar with manga/anime/games/...
PS. Don't judge an anime by it's first episode.

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/2382/themelancholyofharuhisutd8.jpg

Fruits Basket (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=34). Some hate it, other love it. If you don't like series where "nothing happens", this isn't for you. Watch the first episode and you'll probably know which group you belong to.

Oh and the Dragonball series works like this.
1) Dragonball = TV Series.
2) Dragonball Z = TV Series.
3) Dragonball GT = TV Series.
4) Dragonball AF = When i was in high school, My Japanese friends told me they were put into comic books rather then TV and were only released/available in Japan which would make perfect sense.

So i guess the only way we'll know for sure is to find out. :D
