Since Drewnation and others frequently advise us to "read the hole thread", it seemed to me we better get one started.
The Hole Thread can go a lot of different directions. I hope it evolves. But just to get things kicked off, I'll take Holes for 100 Alex.
A: This previously useless piece of dough became a multi-million dollar product idea called the Munchkin.
Q: What is a donut hole?

Yeah, well, Dunkin Donuts is nothing compared to Krispy Kreme. nothing.
PS Mr Magic 8 Ball, are you even a unicyclist? Or just an insane person who thinks he's a magic 8 ball?

Krispy Kreme is horrible. Johnny's, Doughboy, or other local shops owned by the same vietnamese family is where it's at!

Those guys at Google may not be unicyclists, but they have at least one unicyclist working for them (Seth Golub, last I heard). Jack Halpern gave the two lead guys a unicycle on a visit there a few years ago.
Krispy Kremes, if you don't like them or are not familiar, must be eaten fresh. They lose much of their appeal if they get cold or old. Dunkin Donuts has been around a lot longer, and is probably still a bigger company at this point. More choices, but also still only good if they're fresh. They're everywhere in New York, but there are none here in Sacramento.
Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but Dunkin Munchkins are not made from donut holes. That's no doubt where the idea came from, but when you make donuts you not only have circular scraps, you also have much bigger scraps from between all the donuts. This dough is re-kneaded, flattned, and cut out again into more donuts. After a few cycles of this the dough is no longer worthy of donuts, and is used to make some other tasty stuff. Like what they call bear claws here. I don't know what the big dough blobs were called in MI or NY, but that's what they did with them. Munchkins are made separately using a similar method.
DISCLAIMER: The above Dunkin research is based upon watching donuts being made at the local Dunkin Donuts (locally called "Kin Uts" for their burnt-out neon) in Livonia, Michigan in 1981 or so. Methods may have changed since then.
