View Full Version : Will bike-frames work?

I have been riding for a few years now, and am getting pretty sick and tired of my uni - it one of those cheap ones they have in all sport-stores.

So, I've been planning my unicycle. Wondering wheter to buy everything from Unicycle.com and get it shipped to Norway, or what to do. So, yesterday I was at my local bike-dealer, and I found a lot of forks for bikes, all on sale. Would it be possible to use these for a uni? Will you get the seat and the wheel properly mounted? And will it be stronge enough?

Have anybody tried to use a fork with suspension?

But, if I buy a frame, I'd still need a seat (I'm looking at the Kris Holm-seat found at Unicycle.com), wheels and pedals. Can I buy wheels and pedals anywhere? As far as I have experienced, normal bicycle-wheels do not work. Anybody got any ideas? Or know how to do this?

Probably it would be easier to just buy a whole unicycle. You'd still need the saddle, and a unicycle hub. Hubs are not too easy to get from bikeshops here in Finland, so I guess it's pretty much the same in Norway too. You could make a hub, but it'll probably break quite quickly. You can't attach an unihub to the fork too easily because it doesn't have bearing holders.

a bike fork won't work unless you cut off the drop outs and weld on unicycle bottom bracket thing. and bike wheels will work fine, BUT you must have a unicycle hub in there. and i think the top of the fork would be an odd size for a seat post.

so in short, depending on how good you and your bike shops are, it would be easier to buy a unicycle complete from unicycle.com, or at least a frame and seat.

Get a fork with some suspension

There are suspension up to 170mm, without getting too extreme. :)

Is there any suspentioned unicycles?

That was absolutely shameless... I loved it!

Back on topic. I know of one rider that made some unicycle frames from bike forks. Here's the page:

Though, personally, I think it's more worthwhile to just buy UNICYCLE parts.
