View Full Version : Lamest Uni Movie Ever???

I just got done watching Unipsycho Extreme.

Need I say any more?

Some of the tricks and skills in it were good (fairly high-level) and I guess the filming was allright, but they really should have edited it tighter, in my opinion. It reminded me of when I played back all of my un-edited footage for my movie. A LOT! The songs were kinda "whack" like I think there were some with drugs references in them, which I don't mind at all, but they just totally don't match or fit in with the demographic of the riders. Even the Kris Holm short segment was definitely not a good as I had expected. It looked quite dark when he was riding and so he prolly didn't want to try anything too extreme.

Does anyone know why unicycle.com sponsored this movie? just curious, they might sponsor mine, One-Wheeled Women.

What do YOU think is the lamest unicycle movie, video, clip, or picture you have ever seen? Let's see if there are any that really stand out as being horrible.........

Mine!

http://gallery.unicyclist.com/albums/tim/Movie.wmv

I made it with a friend when I just learned how to ride one foot and when I just started hopping up steps.

We made it really to test out his video capture card he got for his computer.

Its real bad but the music does match so that might raise the level up a level.

EDIT: BTW I've gotten better since then.

That was cute, Tim. Are you the guy who organized the Funkadelic Wheeljam 2004? How old are you? I'm 17.

I would have to say the video by tyler cox, 3 minutes of something of him riding and idling like 5 times once. I wouldn't of disliked it so much if he hadn't said that it was really awesome when he told everyone about it on this site.

This is Robbie, telling you that Tyler Sucks Cox.
Did I just say that? Oh that was a bit rude.

Does that Movie have anything to do with you changing your name?

This is a rather negative thread isn't it?

People need to learn how to take criticism Andrew, it's all part of life. It can also help to improve something, for example I told Tyler not to make his movie sound like it was so awesome, but in harsher words.

constructive critisicm is fine. But just telling someone their video is crap gets you nowhere. just because your videos might be to a higher standard, doesn't mean that it wasn't an achievement for someone else to put one together.

you didn't have to watch it

Yes, I believe constructive criticism is fine when it's asked for.

Judging from your comments, I'd say you're somewhat older, but clearly not old enough to understand the need to give children some slack if they overstate matters or the encouragement they deserve and which will help turn them into optimistic young adults.

If you're in your teens, we can cut you some slack and write it off to the self obsessed/absorbed state of the adolescent. If you're into adulthood, well, you should be ashamed of yourself for treating a child so mean-spiritedly.

I am in my teens but I'm just saying that's what life is gonna throw at him.

But I never said my movies were of a higher standard, the movie I'm trying to put together right now I havn't been finishing because it's not very good. I just didn't like the way he made it out to be something it wasn't.

"Life" won't throw critisicms like that at him. People who don't think before they speak will.

he's a 10 year old kid. Were you seriously expecting awesome as in Dan-Heaton-awesome? producing and riding in a movie at all is pretty impressive, especially at 10.

Here is my favorite quote from the movie Contact (a wonderful film if you haven't seen it by the way):

David Drumlin: I know you must think this is all very unfair. Maybe that's an understatement. What you don't know is I agree. I wish the world was a place where fair was the bottom line, where the kind of idealism you showed at the hearing was rewarded, not taken advantage of. Unfortunately, we don't live in that world.
Ellie Arroway: Funny, I've always believed that the world is what we make of it.

In essence Arroway is saying that it is our job to make the world a better not worser place. I don't think you do a 10 year old a service by dashing his enthusiasm. Just something to think about.

Also, try to remember, concerning Tyler's enthusiasm, that for him, as it should be, the movie is exactly what he made it out to be. Trust that as Tyler matures he will be able to recognize quality from an adult perspective, but for now he deserves encouragement and praise for his excellent efforts. If I critiqued every drawing my 10 year old daughter brought to me from the point of view of an art critic, I'd be setting her up for a life of depression, low-self esteem, and joylessness.

Tyler ROCKS!

Whatever Tyler's video was, at only a few minutes long it couldn't be very bad. Go Tyler! Make some more.

I'm surprised nobody here has even gotten into the super-boring videos yet. What am I talking about?

Basically, every *unicycle convention video* that has ever been made. They are all to-tears boring, because they've all been produced with "got to show everyone so everyone will buy it" in mind. That makes for a great home movie, but a really unwatchable convention video.

Even the one Alan Plotkin (of IJA videos fame) did was almost as bad. Same need to cater to as many competitors as possible.

Better than all of them was Unicycle, made by Cory Riback in 1980-81. It shows scenes from the 1980 USA Convention in Kokomo, Indiana, and the only video footage of Bill Jenack I'm aware of. It was made for a non-unicycling TV audience, but never made it to TV to my knowledge.

I'm still waiting for someone to do a convention video and edit it together so that it will actually be entertaining to watch...

Nah I'm a teen and I think he's treating the kid way to harsh. Are you saying that you weren't excited when you learned to idle? Robbie is definately treating Tyler to harsh (even for a teen). Though I do think it isn't right to go around showcasing your video as if it's a work of art.

I'd have to say that Tim's unicycle movie was the worst/best/worst again unicycling movie I've ever seen.

No not really, it wasn't very exciting because I don't think of it really as a trick, just another step in gaining more contron on top of a uni.

Did you download that demo thing of mine in the gallery? If so trust me lots of the shots that were in that were really shocking, I put that together in like 10 minutes just to see how much usable footage we have in it, and I've evaluated that we can only make one song. I also left out alot of the better shots accidentally.

I know we're not that good in comparison to everyone else, so I'm just gonna tell people what is in it and they can decide whether it's worth their time to download + watch.

But seriously, if you think you love me, you'll definitely love this place (http://www.saratoga-uu.org/). It's a house of worship, but bear in mind that I'm an atheist and attend one. Tom Hewett did just that for the BUC 9 video. The first section of the tape is basicly 5 or 6 short films all shot at the convention with different themes. The Cheldidh, muni, the race, the trails etc. Nicely edited with a decent soundtrack. After that 25 min convention high lights video you also get the whole of the show. Now personally i normally stop the tape and rewind at that point, but for those who were in the show, its on tape if you want to bore your gran with it.
I however prefer to show my gran the 5 minute short from the chelidh, she liked it, the music was good and Paul and I were in it, as were a number of other people she recognised from my hockey party. (Granny is the one who presented the medals at the end of the tounament, short lady , same height as the queen) .
I recon the mark of a good vid is one you can show your non uni riding relatives and NOT have them fall asleep on you. Universe is prety good for that but the sound track is a little harsh for some tastes.

Sorry, guys, I should have been more specific when I made this post....I didn't really so much mean what is "bad" about their riding technique or skill level, but like, is it interesting to watch or not. The boring videos and the misleading titles really piss me off, but only sometimes. It was my fault that I didn't look to see the reviews of "Unipsycho EXtreme" before I bought it and was disappointed. But, in my opinion, if you're actually going to make the title "Unipsycho EXtreme", and is sponsored by unicycle.com, then ppl are going to order it, expecting the best. In my view, this wasn't the most extreme and "uniPSYCHO" unicycling movie I have seen. My mom ordered this movie along with such movies as UNiVERsE 1 and One Tired Guy, I believe. I didn't think it matched up to them. And even though it was PRETTY good riding, the format and style of the movie made me really not want to have to watch the movie in normal speed, but fast-forward, to Kris Holm's short appearance.

I really seriously didn't mean to have any ppl "bashing" or hurting the feelings of anyone who made a movie that actually MADE the effort to actually make one, especially by ppl who have yet to even come out with their own. If you guys want to "trash this thread" it is fine with me.

~Sara

(oh, and, P.S: when One-Wheeled Women comes out, I would appreeshe8 any criticism, constuctive or not, because it really pisses me off when ppl pretend to like something I did. And I even like deconstuctive criticism sometimes because I have now what I would like to call "Constuctive Anger Management", I have/had an anger management problem, but have taken classes and therapy and OCD management classes to turn that criticism into something good, and better, than the first thing I was being criticized for. It makes me work a lot harder sometimes.)

That's because I have taken it off the gallery for now, it was just to show to a few people because MSN wasn't working.

I was just saying what I honestly thought about the video. If people say their video is awesome it should be awesome, if people aren't giving honest criticism then it can lead to some people getting upset when they download/buy it and find out what it's like. I think we should all give honest criticism but have no harsh feelings about it.

it will probably only be available as a DVD, I talked with Amy Drummond of unicycle.com and that's what she recommended, as they might carry it. Bedford will probably carry it too.
