Hi Gilby,
Would you please post the following text and URLs about netiquette to the appropriate forums?
------
Please read the following rules on netiquette, for the first time or as a refresher for those that
already know and hopefully comply with netiquette:
http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html
For further netiquette information, please see:
http://www.albion.com/netiquette/
If everyone tries to follow these rules, everyone will be rewarded with a better on-line
unicycling experience.
------
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Ken Fuchs <kfuchs@winternet.com>

How about for easy reading we just mandate that everyone just posts keep to the original topic and not state thier opinion on anything unless its asked. All post must contain material essential to the function of that thread and no language that might be construde as offencive like the word pink which deffenatlly implies a part of the female anatomy that offends me.
Posting a set of rules for a forum is stupid. We are all individuals and yes some people are assholes and some arnt but without everyones true opinion what do we get accomplished. This forum is fairly PC as it is. It regulates itself, fuck rules on telling us what is appropriate and what is not.

You can't be serious? Can you? You are joking, right?
Netiquette rules are simply optional guidelines. They are almost
never madated or enforced. Compliance with netiquette is its own
reward. People that comply with netiquette will see their
creditability and respect in the community rise and people will
generally seek out their knowledge, advice and opinions. People
who intentionally violate netiquette will see their respect in the
community decline and people will generally avoid or take with a
grain of salt their knowledge, advice and opinions.

My true opinion is that RSU forum users, rec.sport.unicycling
newsgroup users and unicycling mailing list users should read
these netiqutte rules and decide for themselves if they want to
comply with these optional rules for their own benefit and the the
benefit of the unicycling community at large.
Please read the netiquette core rules:

I agree with you Ken. But still, there have been a lot of good conversations and most of them really helpful, even though pretty much offtopic. Sometimes it's just not convenient to post a new thread. And cutting the threads in half at somepoint it's going offtopic would require a lot of work from moderators. And moving or deleting offtopic messages from this forum will still leave them to the newsgroups. Right? I'm not absolutely sure about that last one.

Rule 1: Remember the Human
I cant think of any frequent user on RSU that doesnt follow this one, what makes this forum what is it is everyones humanity. The few bots that post on here are clearly SPAMED away
Rule 2: Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life
Again most people are polite and typically everyone is treated as equals.
Rule 3: Know where you are in cyberspace
DUH
Rule 4: Respect other people's time and bandwidth
With the exception of the occasional large picture that is in the post this
Rule 5: Make yourself look good online
Go ahead and read this again, its full of crap.
Rule 6: Share expert knowledge
It's especially polite to share the results of your questions with others. When you anticipate that you'll get a lot of answers to a question, or when you post a question to a discussion group that you don't visit often, it's customary to request replies by email instead of to the group. When you get all those responses, write up a summary and post it to the discussion group. That way, everyone benefits from the experts who took the time to write to you.
What a waste of time and energy, just post it takes less time and more opinions are offered.
I cant think of anywhere that is a move vast source of unicycling knoledge, if you post a unicycling related question chances are someone can help you find an answer.
Rule 7: Help keep flame wars under control
they get boring very quickly to people who aren't involved in them
Then dont read them. Its that simple even if your using an email based way to view the forum you can simply not read stuff if it seems like its a flame war. IF you dont want to be part of it then dont.
Rule 8: Respect other people's privacy
Hackers beware.
Rule 9: Don't abuse your power
I dont know if Gilby is ready to hear this one out, there seems to be 4 or 5 people who think he went to far by getting the last post in on the Most Replies thread.
Rule 10: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes
you know how only 1 person has ever been banned from the forum, oh wait we took him back and although he can be abrasive at times he still is allowed to visit here and post as much as he wants now.
So what good would it be to waste everyones time to read these pointless rules. Netequette or whatever you want to call it is bull plop and there is no need to put it up on this site or tell people that they should adhear to thoes rules. We are not here to be each others mother, we dont need to waste our time in telling people what is wrong and right.
My biggest beef with these rules is the Spelling and Grammer police that come out of it, as long as we can understand what you are trying to say thats good enough, many people who use this forum arent from traditionally english speaking countries and maybe they can read english, but it is hard for them to type it. WE shouldnt spend time making them fell like a looser correcting thier grammer.
And what fun is making sure that we dont deviate from a topic in a post. If we did this there would be thousands of more topics every month and alot fewer responces to ones who could maybe use the more indepth conversation about something toattly random.
Most of these dont even need to be heard and the huge list of stuff that I've gone through to read is more a wase of time than the most replies thread.

right on Checkernuts!
the netiquette or what ever Ken linked us to here is way out of left field.the RSU fora has been totaly under control for years, granted there are a few times that an F-bomb or a mention of drugs has been inserted into a thread but thats just life.
Sarcastic words somtime get mistaken by people who cant take a joke but thats not the fault of the poster...just because someone who doesnt read the forum enough to know the differance doesnt mean that all should be told to read some hurdy gurdy list of P.C.-- B.S.
and by the way Ken,besides the last thread about the Titanium muni frame, when was the last time you posted anything other than a "please dont" thread??? chiming in with netiquette all the time is just as rude as pointing your finger at the forum and saying "NO NO" "dont act like that you childish little fuck-heads...

There is understandable confusion about the meaning of "off topic".
In the context of a newsgroup, such as rec.sport.unicycling, "off topic"
means outside of the topics a newsgroup was created to discuss.
For rec.sport.unicycling, an "off topic" post is any post not on the topic
of unicycling.
A thread whose discussion shifts way from that of the original subject
line may or may not be off topic. For rec.sport.unicycling, if the
discussion is still about unicycling it is still "on topic". If the discussion
shifts away from unicycling, such as the Kindereggs thread, the thread
has gone "off topic". even though it started on the topic of unicycling.
In USENET, the Kindereggs post would have been send to
rec.sport.unicycling and when the discussion shifted to just
the Kindereggs themselves, it would have been cross posted to
alt.chocolate and/or other chocolate related newsgroups and
would be dropped off rec.sport.unicycling.
Sincerely,
Ken Fuchs <kfuchs@winternet.com>

Ken,
I dont think theres any confusion about what Off topic means, but I think the general consensious is that we dont care. The off topic posts are sometimes the best ones, this is a community not a bot that tells you stuff on unicycling, we all have different interests outside the sport and thats sometimes what we discuss. Unicycling isnt just about riding on one wheel, its also about the people that do it.
Cheers, (and beers :D )
