More computer help needed

The first help needed post worked so well, I need to ask another question.

Don't laugh now, but I'm sitting in front of a powerhouse computer, my Gateway Pentium II 233 with no CD burner. It's probably going to be awhile before we buy another computer. So in the meantime, we want to buy a CD burner to start saving some of the digital pictures we're accumulating with our new camera, including NAUCC pictures. If I look on Ebay, what do I need to know before buying a burner? What will fit, what speeds are standard now, what else don't I know about that I need to ask about?

do yourself a favour...

in your town, look in the yellowpages for computer used+new.

get one from there, it'll cost you like $15

they will know what you need, and have a heap of prefectly fine (but slower than the top of the line current one) burners

A-ha I had to put in a Burner in my father's Computer which is a Pentium 2 300 and it's running like a dream.
Go for the 52x48x52 (That's the latest) or for the P2 233 a 48x24x48 would be better. I got a LG 48x24x48 and it's ok what I'm doing. It will fit in a Tower Case or a Desktop Case. Make sure the Case is a ATX not a AT which is now Obsolete. (It will fit in a AT Case) I presume you want a CDR/RW Burner, Not a Combo DVD/CDR Burner. The Maxinum Computer speed for the Burner should be at least 300Mhz (500Mhz Better and Onwards) with at least of 64Mb of Memory, 128Mb Recommend and Onwards. Windows 95 (READ ONLY) Windows 98, 98SE, ME, NT4, 2000, XP. Hard disk drive space about 70Mb or more depending on the type of software you getting. I can't help with prices Bruce so Check with some Computer Magazines or better still, Go to a Computer Markets where you should pick up a bargin, But be aware, Some Offer limited Warranty. Take a friend if you don't know much of Computer Hardware/Software. Good luck Bruce and I hope you pick up a real bargin as I always do.
