Everyone try the chat thingy right now!

I think it'd be great to get this chat feature working for once...so everyone go there now. I'll be there for the next 10 minutes. I'm not sure how to make it work but we'll see.

It's a Java applet so you'll need Java installed on your machine. If you're running IE you'll also need to set your security settings to allow Java to run applets.

Microsoft is discontinuing support for their Java run time so the best Java option now is Sun's flavor of Java. You can download Sun's Java run time from here (http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp)

I'm able to connect to
acool.ga.us.dal.net 6667

The first server it tried to connect to was
irc.dal.net 6667
That one did not connect

The second server it tried to connect to was
virtex.hub.us.dal.net 6667
That one did not connect

The third server it tried was
acool.ga.us.dal.net 6667
That's the one it finally connected to

If you have problems you might want to try updating your version of Java. I don't know if it will make a difference, but it might.

i can connect to acool.ga.us.dal.net 6667 but eventually it says "no ident response" and goes through a bunch of crap before it just ends the connection.

Well, I say that IRC will work now I'm not behind the university's firewall. Blind optimism... :)

Took blummin' ages to find a server that would work; mIRC just sat there for ages whinging. Finally found one... and no-one's there... :rolleyes:

Click on 'chat' at the top right of this page or go to www.unicyclist./com/chat and then where it says 'Enter Your Nickname' or something like that do so...then Enter the chat room. I'm in there now for maybe 30 minutes or so.

I wasn't ignoring you - just away from the computer. (I've now set mine to audibly ping when there is activity in the channel - but that still won't help when I'm out in the garage)
