apply buttons halfway text in stead of at the end

When I use a button to insert italic , bold etc. the text string using such tags is appended at the current end of my writing. Would it be possible to insert it at the cursor location so that I can insert an italicised (etc) word? Even better, if a string would be selected, italicise it as an afterthought by clicking the I button?

Sure, it's possible. Just send us some code so we can add that functionality to the forums. ;)

OK I worded that question incorrectly. It should read:

Would it be possible for you, Gilby, and if so, would you be willing, to write and implement code so that the functionality was added to the forums to be able to insert vB codes for italicised, bold etc at the cursor location so that I can insert an italicised (etc) word?

Life would be so much more meaningful. But if no, well, then, no. I can live without it but it would be a dull life :-).
