Does clicking a smiley, say the top leftmost one, give the same result as typing the equivalent ASCII? Then what about typing another ASCII smiley?
click the smiley: :)
type the same as ASCII: :)
type the archetypal ASCII smiley: :-)

So, yes it does. The well-known :-) is not recognised. I also found out that clicking a smiley icon places it at the end of what you had typed so far, regardless of cursor position.
Now I am STILL puzzled about the weird smiley that Jagur used on one of his recent posts. It went something like <~o]. I have a list of 200+ smileys (and meanings), some quite bizarre, but that one wasn't included.

It's obviously a smiley wearing a dunce cap. That's why it was smiling at unimoron.
