so i thought i'd ask

how do u do the 'quote' thingie when replying to a thread?
i've tried using the quote button (it seemed like a logical route, how wrong was i?!?)

use the quote button, and make sure you don't erase the [ quote ][ /unquote ] 's

To do the above, I just hit the http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/newimages2/quote.gif
button (is that redundant?)

Little box?

Just start typing beneath the quote like you do with any other post.

Which quote button are you using?

If you click the reply button, there is a "Quote" button above the box where you type the message (the big text box). That's NOT the right one. There is another quote button at the bottom right of each post. On the page where you READ all the posts, find the post that you wish to "reply to with a quote", then instead of clicking "reply" click the blue "quote" button which appears in that post.

So...

the grey "Quote" button is of limited value
the blue "quote" button is the one you need.
if you press the "reply" button, then back up and start over

Now, to quote multiple posts... that's Advanced Magic. Come back after you can do one.

Also, you can chop out some of the quoted text, but be sure to leave all the square bracket stuff.

There are two "quote" buttons... the one at the bottom right of every post in a thread, and one on the "reply" page. You want the one at the bottom of the post you're replying to.

Click that, and when the page that lets you type your reply pops up it'll already have their post contained between two QUOTE tags, and the little bit saying who posted it. Type your response underneath and hey presto.

I've never had a need to use the "quote" button on the reply page...

Sorry... I can't save the world AND reply promptly to posts at the same time. Well, not every time, anyway.

Since we are such a witty and clever bunch, there is plenty of quote-worthy material right here in this thread -- for your quoting convenience...

GILD, you pruned out "witty" and "clever" when you quoted me -- I almost didn't notice. Was that a hidden message of some sort?

Obviously, better-hidden than you realized. He also snipped "quote-worthy" from your original!
