at about 6pm yesterday my 4 year old son started saying his tooth hurt.wh e went home early from the relitivies house because it got worse and he was getting tired.

at 2am this morning he was screaming in pain and is still screaming.no medicene seems to work longer than 30 minutes.

tooth pain is the worst pain and there are no dentists open.emergency room?i dont know.

this has been the worst X-mass of our lives and its only mid day.

all the presents are open but nobodies playing with them.the ham is done but nobody can eat or is even hungry.

Hey jagur,

My wife, the nurse, said a "sore tooth" could actually be an ear infection. Happened to at least one of our kids.

On another note, you may find this ironic: I (a UW Dawg) got an Oregon State Beaver t-shirt for Christmas from my Oregonian wife. Talk about insult!...If I wear it does it make me a cross-dresser?

Hope things get better.

I hope things look up. If it makes you feel any better I finally get a nice uni and the send me sh*t broken. I'm pissed. Really really pissed. Plus my dad got me some nice headphones I can't even use. But I'm grateful my family made it okay and the food was good. I don't know...

What kind of headphones, and why can't you use them?

My two favorite headphones are Sennheiser HD 580's and Grado's (either the SR 125's, SR 225's, or SR 325's). You can see more about the Sennheiser 580's and Grados at Headphone.com (http://www.headphone.com/)
Even the Grado SR 60's are a great headphone.

The typical headphones you see in electronic stores (like Sony, Koss, and others) can't compare to the Sennheiser 580's and Grados. The difference is night and day.

I'm an OSU Beaver now living in Seattle. I would be proud to wear an OSU Beaver shirt. I don't know if I would ever have the balls to wear an OSU shirt while unicycling on the UW campus. That would just be rude (and possibly stupid).

I would not wear a UW t-shirt. That would be wrong.

Jagur,

Keep us posted. First things first, you know...and our children and family always top the list of importance on this earth.

Been there. Once of the hardest things to do is watch and listen to your own offspring suffering. For what it's worth, Mary and I are praying for Avenue for his quick healing. Let us know how it goes.

Jagur, man, I hope your kid's all right!

YOWLCH!    4 years old with an abscessed tooth!
When I had my abscessed tooth, (both times), I wanted someone to cut my head off,
so I know exactly what kind of pain he's been going through!

I would only wish that kind of pain on my absolute worst enemy, but never on a little kid.

Besides the torture, it's also dangerous... if the infection spreads into the sinuses, etc...

It's seriously serious, people!

Get him fixed quick!

Jagur,
When this is all over, you'll remember the pain but your son won't. Kids are so resilient. Hope you have a quiet night.

Too much of a he-man to talk about my taint? Yet we have to endure your sob stories? Honestly! What would Miss Manners say? Really, sorry about Boulevard's abcess. Hope it gets better.
Maybe it happened because god was mad at you for something you did. If you shave it, I'll kiss it.

Not being able to do anything about it or see a solution puts an exponant next to it.

Sophie started to get 'bottle mouth' about a year ago- now we brush each others teeth a couple times a week, and are both better off for it (except for when she jabs me in the saliva gland).

Good health to Avenue; he's lucky to have you there for him.

Ay, and mayhaps the God of Pain will stroll down from Salem and find a repository for his KH fork. Two pronged for your pleasure.

Just curious, does whatever your vehicle's license plate says make any sense to anyone either?

Glad to hear it, Jagur. This probably isn't your first lesson in parents experiencing their children's pain. I'm sure you often wondered what your mother was talking about when you were a suffering pee-wee.

I've talked to people who had absessed teeth. When I was a kid there wasn't enough room in my mouth for my teeth. My mouth pretty much looked like a stick of dynamite went off in it. I've had 16 teeth pulled in my life, 8 of them permanent teeth. I wouldn't trade it for having even one absessed tooth. Get some sleep, bucko.

I feel your pain. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled durring the break just days before Christmas. Of course mine was a volentary procedure, and probably doesnt compare with your son' s holiday fiasco. I wish Avenue a speedy recovery and better luck with his teeth in the future. Just wait untill he's a teenager, I hope its easier on you than I am on my parents.

I had my wisdom teeth cut out around the 4th of July in 2001. One of them got infected. Horrible, ugly pain.

what's with this dental thing?
i had to race around on the sunday before xmas to find a dentist who would take a look at my exploding mouth
i've had an abcess before and thought it was the same thing
after finding a non-medical aid rate dentist, i found out that a decaying tooth had allowed a filling to be compacted and trap the nerve between the filling and the rim of the infamous canal
got it temporarily sorted, will have to have a root canal sometime in the new year
i only stayed half sane thanx to half a bottle of Cuervo Especial
i dont want to know where Avenue's head must've been
pass on a hug from me
and buy him some decent headphones
;)

john, i'll c your hd 580s and raise u some hd 600s

jagur, once again i felt your son's pain

a couple of months ago, a dentist appointment for three crowns turned into a bit of a nightmare when he realised that one of the teeth had to have a root canal b4 being crowned and another might as well be pulled, it had no opposing tooth and i could use the money saved from the unneccesary crown for the root canal treatment
very well
so i sat thru a root canal, two crowns and an extraction in the space of about an hour and 15 minutes
and this wouldn't have been relevant except for the fact that the dentist managed to botch the extraction
at one point, one of his tools slipped and he gouged a hole in the back of my throat
it would be three weeks before i could swallow easily
he also snapped off a root which remained stuck in the gum
he probably figured that i wasn't about to take much more and assured me that the root would be prettty peacefull and that since i had implant surgery on the cards, they could take this out during the same general anaesthetic
'we can worry about it later' was a quote i remember well
i started worrying about it on monday afternoon
and from a constant, dull ache, it erupted into a throbbing, mindbendingly searing pain that threatened to make me lose my sense of humour completely
i managed to get some industrial painkillers from a chemist on my way home from work and with a lil' help from mother nature, managed to make it thru the night
eventually got to see a dentist on tuesday
dental assistants are spawn of the devil and do not understand the concept of 'emergency'
may they rot in hell
the dentist's first reaction when i opened my mouth and he saw the swelling, was '$#^%!'
abcess
he did some draining to relieve the pressure and the pain and immediately sent me to a dental surgeon to have a look at the possibillity of removing the root
the surgeon warned me that since the local anaesthetic is alcaline and the abcess acidic, he might not be able to deaden the area completely untill the infection's cleared up
i'm taking antibiotics to make that happen
but figured that while i'm there, we may as well have a go at getting to the (so sorry about this) root of the problem
we shouldn't have
he managed to get enough local in there to be able to cut open the gum
trying to move the sides of the gum apart to be able to get to the offending root was character building
when he started digging around in there trying to yank it out, i nearly went thru the roof
i figured i might as well put up with a bit of pain now rather than have to go thru the whole cutting open procedure again at a later stage
and since i was allready missing a days work, i might as well try n get as much done as possible, but i soon realised that i wasn't going to be able to put up with the kind of pain that was involved

i crawled back home and will wait for the infection to go away
i got him to book me off on wednesday as well, and took delivery of my 'new' car on wednesday

i do believe i've found the cure for the dental blues

;)
