1979 (http://www.newyorker.com/critics/music/?041101crmu_music) is a New Yorker bit on the reissue of The Clash album London Calling. I've recalled this thread because the piece ends with this beautiful bit of prose:
"If Strummer's instincts were not his alone, then somewhere right now a kid is throwing a fancy, overpriced package of twenty-five-year-old material across the room and pledging to reinvent punk rock once and for all, doubting her heroes while carrying their astonishing music in her whole body."

That's a great quote.
Ya know, I kind of miss the old antagonists like Glutes & Sendhair.
