View Full Version : My Name
Checkernuts
2002-12-17, 03:24 PM
This one is for Andrew because he asked...
Chex, Mr Nutz or Mike all work for me,
Checkers was a nickname I picked up my freshman year when I dyed my hair with the 2 tone pattern and soon my buddies wondered if the Drapes matched the Carpet, and Checkernuts became my name to some of them. I allways thought it was pritty funny so when I needed a name for the forum it seemed like a good one. If you use AIM (AOL Instant Messanger) my name on there is Smrfnstien, feel free to drop me a line on there.
So now I ask whats behind your name? Is there any cool story? or is it just your name...
Also please post any AIM Screen names if you would like to chat sometime.
Mike aka Chex
Mine started out as Sofa King Wee Todd Id on the mountainbike forum, had a few people comment on the non-PC'ness of it, and I wasn't about to meet people for a ride that already hated me for my name.
So I had a poll, to see what I should now call myself, people suggested Sofa, as it would be appropriate, and those who had been around would still know it was me.
Then I came here, and fingured I may as well keep the same name, perhaps I wasn't the only bike/uni crossover.
On or around my very first post, Mojoe replied 'Hey, are you Sofa King Wee Todd Id form MTBR?' I thought that was pretty cool
Now it just haunts me because everytime I hear a commercial from Sofa Gallery, I htink about posting pictures here :(

Just an old, old, bad habit.
I also respond positively to Al, Alan, Mr.Chambers, or Ginge. I'm
amused when people think my name is Arnold, Arnie or whatever,
but it's understandable given that I closely resemble a certain famous
Austrian muscle monster. ;-)

Well, I got spider from climbing on top of a local school during a game of manhunt. But then people spelt it spyder, so I spelt it SpYdeR. But there are alot of SpYdeR's so I threw on v1o. So erm.. that's it. Chezx, that's badass. That's all to me.

My sister thought the neighbour's cat had a good name... strange name for a cat though:p
ratherbekayaking
2002-12-19, 12:30 AM
mine is fairly obvious: Ratherbekayaking. My favorite recreational activity is whitewater kayaking class IV or V.
---and a little about me since I'm new here: (I can never give a short answer.)
Why is "ratherbekayaking" on a uni board then, you ask? Well, I started mountain biking this year and felt that my balance could improve if I learned to unicycle. I thought about this after seeing someone in my "drinking club with a running problem", (www.harrier.net), unicyling around the pool at our InviHASHional X at Aspen this year. Sure enough, it has seemed to help for that steep stuff that you are only going about 1/2 mph up the trail, one rock at a time. Only after I got the uni and started experiencing it, learning new things, seeing what was possible through websites and Kris Holm movies has this "balance tool" become something much more.
I've riden the unicyle(s) about 30 days total since I got my first. Days on the mountain bike since I got a uni: One. That may shift a bit once the weather gets warmer, but I think I'm hooked.
Oh, my real name is Ed Hansen.
Catboy
2002-12-19, 02:44 AM
Mine is[Catboy] just because I've always wanted a cat more than anything(next o a KH24). a black cat with a white chest and white paws from the wrist down and 1 yellow cat eye, a boy. I started complaining soo much about it my mom started to call me catboy and I ran with it. I know another Catboy. I was even sooo wanting one like that i wrote a 7minute song about it, with bass guitar accompanyment.
www.theaquabats.com
If you look around you'll find the finest Trumpeteer ever. His name is Catboy too. Kinda a cool coinky dink.
I also have weird bond with cats. I have never run into a cat I didnt like and that didnt like me. Most often cats approach me without any prompting whatsoever. I only want one cat though. But has to follow all of my rectictions (I might get one with 2 eyes).
It's just I once read a book called "One Eyed Cat" and it moved me. I will never take out a cats eye, (just to have a one eyed cat that would be cruel and in humane) ever. So anyways i started signing my name that way: Eric "Catboy" Pearson(the catboy is always in tiny letters, but just enough to see). Oh i do have AOL(damn the wenches of Aol) and mine is MuniCatboy@aol.com

unisteve
2002-12-20, 01:27 AM
in the true spirit of creativity (just kidding) I decided that "unisteve" was a fitting name. I unicycle almost every day and my name is Steve. its also really short and thus easy to type. :p i like short, easy to type screen names. i notice a few "uni[insert name here]" sns. I guess my idea wasnt as UNIque :D as i might have hoped. its too late to change now, though. my email is even unisteve. So there.

ok, i'll bite
during my personal 'lost weekend' that lasted about 18 months, i became quite attached to the feeling (about 4hrs after ingesting) of absolute wellbeing
this led me to remark to my partner in experimentation that 'G*d! i love dr*&%!'
eventually we shortened this to GILD
when i turned my back on that lifestyle, i really wanted something to take with me and figured that getting the acronym GILD as a tattoo might work
i sat in a pub one night, (listening to a cover band with the most insanely bad 70's poseur vocalist) and figured that i'd better come up with another explanation of the GILD in case my mother asks
in a moment of inspirational brilliance, it suddenly dawned upon me that my first name starts with a D!!
presto!! i had it
while thinking about it some more, i realised that it may sound somewhat egocentric to go around with skin-art proclaiming
'God I Love Dave'
while thinking about where to place the tattoo, i realised that putting it on the front of my shoulder will mean that i'll see it in the mirror every morning while brushing my teeth
and that, far from being arrogant, it is a stunning way to remind me of who i am and why
every time i'm confronted with a moral decision of some sort, i now have a very easy test
if i decide to do XYZ, will i be able to look myself in the eye 2moro morning and say "GILD"?
if i will, then it is the right decision
if not, ...
the original origin of GILD have faded to nothing but a dull memory

Memphis Mud
2002-12-20, 01:14 PM
I used to poke around on another forum for Guitar Pickers. (aka "Mudcatters"). My handle from there seems perfectly appropriate here.
I'm in Memphis, Tennesee
It bees energy sapping muddy here. Just ask "Animation". We MUni-ied one of our trails on the Swamp Tour a couple of weeks ago...we were up to our bellies in the muck...MUC...Memphis Unicyle Club..."come out and play in the MUC"... (are you people paying attention?)
Heck, we even have a civic attration called "MUD ISLAND". Makes you want to rush right over, don't it? A few months ago, a whole bunch of it (the island) slid off into the harbor (we're on the Mississippi River here). It was quite the speck-tackle.
I used to Mountain Bike a bunch in the days before MUni awareness. Poor baby just hangs from the ceiling now. Tire all flat...dejected...ignored... I'd feel bad if I weren't having so much MUni-fun.:D

Michigan is comprised of the Upper and Lower Peninsulas and the two masses are connected by the five-mile suspension Mackinac (pronounced Mack-i-naw) Bridge over the Straits of Mackinac. Yoopers are folks who willingly live in the Upper Peninsula or U.P. (U.P.ers or Yoopers). There are two types of people that live in Michigan, Yoopers who live in the U.P. and trolls who live below the bridge.
Although we now reside in Illinois, the beautiful U.P. remains our first love.

My username is "phil". Although it may seem strange, and I realise this revelation may cause unrest amongst the forum dwellers, but it is no coincidence that this is also My Name.
Spooky indeed.
I recall being quite pleased to find somewhere where I actually could log in with my name, instead of some other nick.
Where that happens I generally use Flippet, which is a slight mangling of a nickname from a while back... it was more of a "flippit" back then though.
Hence www.flippet.org being mine...

Ekimstorm is a name i've been using for a while. I started using it when i was much younger, so thats why its so dumb. ok, the 'ekim' is mike backwards, and i just added the 'storm' because i liked the sound of it and stuff...i dunno. maybe i am like a storm on my uni? i dunno, whatever :P

Mine is even more creative than Unisteve's :). My real name is also Steve and I, like Phil, enjoy logging on with my real name. I was happy to be able to find an email service that was new enough that It didn't have anyone using the fairly common name of Steve and sence my mail it from Unicyclist.com I thought that my screen name sould be the same. On AIM and Yahoo I go by CntSpllWrthADmn because I_Cant_Spell_Worth_A_Damn is too long. Feel free to say hello if you are on either of those instant messengers.

My bike, once the mainstay of my transportation, lives outside in the bike rack, out in the cold, wet inhospitable winter weather, with only birds relieving themselves on the mudguards (GRRR!) to keep it company. My unicycles, on the other hand, live in my nice warm and dry room, and get cleaned much more often (ie. at all...)
Welcome to the forum, too... may much unicycling banter come your way!

Gerblefranklin was a confusion at school that ended with me being called Gerblefranklin and someone else Gerblemeister. Eighth graders can be like that. I used it because it was just the first thing that came to mind, having just seen "Gerblemeister" about 5 minutes before logging onto thius website.

Back when I first got onto the internet(almost 10 years ago) I was using a family account on AOL. My Dad signed me up as BugManChad since Chad just about anything else was already taken. Initially I wasn't that keen on it, since I didn't really see myself as a BugMan at the time. I have a degree in Chemistry, and Marketing and ended up in the Pest Control industry after school. After a few years I ended up buying a good portion of the company I worked for. We sell to pest control companies. The owners of those companies and their technicians come to me for answers. I am now after many years considered one of the experts in my field, and am refered to as the BugMan by others in this industry. So now I kind of wear the name as a badge of honor.

Fantastic....I love the things you learn when trolling around in old threads. RAH one of my favorite writers of all time, and the blind musician a great character. TEFL, SIASL, and TMIAHM were definitely bibles for a while.
Maybe I should change my user name to Grok.
I use DJM as a Quickie name. That is my Real Name. David John Mason. When I registed back in January, I forgot to change it back to David_Mason instead of DJM as my username. (I wish I was now been called David_Mason as my username) I use DJM as a nick-name. Mind you I don't mind it now and then if someone calls me DJM. But I still preferred to be called David instead of DJM.
David.

I followed a similar strategy, but took it one step further by using someone else's name entirely. My real name is Trixie Majorack, RN, but for purposes of anonymity I decided to borrow the name of someone I greatly respect, Tom Blackwood. I would have used the underscore trick too like john_childs, but my right pinky finger was injured and in a splint on the day I set up my account, so I couldn't get to that key whilst touch-typing.

zelda was like one of my favorite games so i did z(elda)freak220. the 220 has no real meaning other than just sounding cool. pronounced two-twenty but the t sorta becomes silent. i thought it was a pretty cool sn so i decided to keep it.

Well, habbywall was my other one.
Habby was teh nickname of my favorite NHL goalie, he was like a wall so it became habbywall.
I needed a new one so I went to my word of the day widget and up came sobriquet, It meant nickname, so I thought that it was the perfect name and in perfect timing.

burjzyntski
2006-08-08, 03:16 AM
my screen name, burjzyntski, is a combination of my last name (burzynski) with my first two initials (j for joseph, and t for thomas). pretty simple, really.
pronounced just the way you think it is ;)
people called me 'Polac' throughout middle school, and 'goofy bastard' more than once, but 'lanky' is a word that always seems to pop up.
